Background: Current guidelines discourage prophylactic plasma use in non-bleeding patients. This study assesses global plasma transfusion practices in the intensive care unit (ICU) and their alignment with current guidelines.

Study Design And Methods: This was a sub-study of an international, prospective, observational cohort.

Importance: Red blood cell (RBC) transfusion is common among patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU). Despite multiple randomized clinical trials of hemoglobin (Hb) thresholds for transfusion, little is known about how these thresholds are incorporated into current practice.

Objective: To evaluate and describe ICU RBC transfusion practices worldwide.

Background: Graves' orbitopathy (GO) is subject to epidemiological and care-related changes. Aim of the survey was to identify trends in presentation of GO to the European Group On Graves' Orbitopathy (EUGOGO) tertiary referral centres and initial management over time.

Methods: Prospective observational multicentre study.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of switching from preserved prostaglandin analog-timolol fixed combinations (PG-timolol FCs) to preservative-free latanoprost-timolol FC (PF-LT) on intraocular pressure (IOP), ocular surface health, and tolerability in glaucoma and ocular hypertension (OH) patients with the concurrent ocular surface disease (OSD).

Methods: This was a longitudinal, prospective, interventional, real-life study among 42 patients. Up to 3 visits were planned, at baseline, 30, and 90 days to assess efficacy on IOP decrease and local tolerance.

Background: Diabetic patients tend to have increased platelet reactivity after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). The aim of this study was to determine the association between hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) values and platelet reactivity and to evaluate the consequent impact on clinical outcomes in patients undergoing CABG.

Methods: This prospective observational trial consecutively enrolled 225 diabetic patients undergoing CABG, between February 2014 and October 2018.

We reviewed the pleiotropic beneficial effects of the stable gastric pentadecapeptide BPC 157, three very recent demonstrations that may be essential in the gut-brain and brain-gut axis operation, and therapy application in the central nervous system disorders, in particular. Firstly, given in the reperfusion, BPC 157 counteracted bilateral clamping of the common carotid arteries-induced stroke, sustained brain neuronal damages were resolved in rats as well as disturbed memory, locomotion, and coordination. This therapy effect supports particular gene expression in hippocampal tissues that appeared in BPC 157-treated rats.

Coronary subclavian steal syndrome (CSSS) is a complication of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery in patients with coexistent significant subclavian artery stenosis (SAS). It is characterized by a retrograde blood flow through the left internal mammary artery graft from the coronary to subclavian circulation, leading to myocardial ischemia. Current screening for CSSS includes bilateral blood pressure measurement for the detection of a significant inter-arm blood pressure difference.

It is known that cortisol level increases in stress situations. The aim of the study was to measure the levels of salivary cortisol in patients with oral lichen planus (OLP) and healthy controls. This was a case-control pilot study which included seven patients with reticular (non-symptomatic) OLP, eight patients with atrophic/erosive (symptomatic) OLP, and nine healthy controls.

Background: There are no data on the difference between the impact of ropivacaine and levobupivacaine on sympathetic nerve fibers during central neuraxial blocks. We hypothesized that there is no difference in the degree of sympathectomy between the two drugs during lumbar epidural analgesia for labor pain.

Methods: Sixty healthy parturients were randomized to the type of local anesthetic-opiod solution administered in the epidural space: 10 mL of 0.

Objective: To investigate the eruption angle of maxillary canine in patients with Klinefelter syndrome (KS) in which high prevalence of palatally displaced canine anomaly (PDC) has been found by clinical assessment.

Subjects And Methods: The sample consisted of 37 KS males aged 20-34 years (mean 27 years) and the control group which consisted of 78 healthy males aged 20-27 years (mean 23 years). A pioneer method was used to measure the eruption angle.

Whilst the association between dementia and poorer health-related quality of life (Hr-QoL) in Parkinson's disease (PD) has been well established, we aimed to explore the relationship between cognitive performance and Hr-QoL in PD without dementia. Consecutive PD patients (n = 124, 54% men, age 60.4 +/- 10.

Background: Animal data and postmortem studies suggest a role of oxidative stress in the Huntington's disease (HD), but in vivo human studies have been scarce.

Aim: To assess the presence of oxidative stress in HD patients and its occurrence relative to clinical symptoms.

Methods: Oxidative stress markers were determined in plasma of HD patients (n = 19), asymptomatic HD gene carriers (with > 38 CAG repeats) (n = 11) and their respective sex and agematched healthy controls (n = 47 and n = 22) in a cross-sectional study.
