Background: Six minute walking test (6-MWT) may serve as a reproducible test for assessing exercise capacity in heart failure (HF) patients and can be clinically predicted. We aimed in this study to ascertain if global markers of ventricular asynchrony can predict 6MWT distance in a group of patients with HF and left ventricular (LV) ejection fraction (EF) <45%.

Methods And Results: This study included 77 consecutive patients (60 ± 12 years) with stable HF.

Background: Cardiac disease is the most common cause of death in patients with end-stage renal disease. It is assumed that the high rate of cardiovascular mortality is related to accelerated atherosclerosis. Patients with chronic renal insufficiency have an increased prevalence of coronary artery disease, silent myocardial ischaemia, complex ventricular arrhythmias, atrial fibrillation, left ventricular hypertrophy, annular mitral and aortic valve calcification, and enlargement of the left atrium, than patients with normal renal function.

Objective: We investigated the prognostic value of various parameters on the mortality of patients with nonrheumatic chronic heart failure and left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction.

Methods: This study included 132 consecutive patients with congestive heart failure and reduced LV systolic function without rheumatic valve disease. The primary outcome was mortality.

Background: Major trauma is a leading cause of death worldwide. Evaluation of trauma care using Trauma Injury and Injury Severity Score (TRISS) method is focused in trauma outcome (deaths and survivors). For testing TRISS method TRISS misclassification rate is used.

Introduction: Although intestinal anastomoses are mainly made by staplers, manual anastomoses are still in use worldwide. In previous studies, single layer anastomosis has shown better results compared to double layer techniques.

Purpose: To test experimentally some aspects of three different single layer anastomotic techniques in order to identify advantages and disadvantages of each.

Aims: Left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction may be associated with compromised stroke volume, which may be caused by asynchrony, reflected on the prolongation of isovolumic time (t-IVT). To assess the prognostic role of Doppler echocardiographic measurements in predicting cardiac events after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG).

Methods And Results: The study included 74 patients undergoing routine CABG.

Aim: The aim of this study was to explore the relationship between insulin resistance (IR) and the left ventricular diastolic function in patients with type 2 diabetes and subjects with impaired glucose tolerance (IGT).

Methods: The study included 119 subjects who underwent oral glucose tolerance test (OGTT). IR was assessed using Homeostasis Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) and Quantitative Insulin Sensitivity Check Index (QUICKI).
