Effects of Er:YAG laser irradiation of different titanium surfaces on osteoblast response.

The aim of this in vitro study was to evaluate the effects of erbium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet (Er:YAG) laser irradiation on titanium surface topography and the proliferation and differentiation of osteoblasts using standard clinical treatment settings. Er:YAG laser irradiation at two levels ((1): 160 mJ, pulse at 20 Hz; (2): 80 mJ, pulse at 20 Hz) was applied to moderately rough and smooth titanium disks before MG-63 osteoblast-like cells were cultured on these surfaces. Objectives: The influence of the administration method used to collect oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in children remains largely unknown. The aim of this study was to determine whether the OHRQoL information obtained using the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (ECOHIS) differed with different methods of data collection (face-to-face interview, telephone, or self-administered questionnaire).

Objectives: To systematically assess the long-term outcome (≥5 years) of root coverage procedures reported in controlled clinical trials.

Material And Methods: Literature search was performed according to the PRISMA guidelines with the following eligibility criteria: (a) English or German language; (b) controlled (CT) or randomised controlled clinical trials (RCT); (c) root coverage procedure with ≥5 years follow-up; and (d) clinical treatment effect size and/or patient-related outcome measures (PROMs) reported.

Results: Four CT and 14 RCT with a follow-up of 5-20 years fulfilled the eligibility criteria; sample size per study ranged from 8 to 70 patients contributing with 18-149 sites.

The periodontal ligament (PDL) responds to applied orthodontic forces by extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling, in which human periodontal ligament-derived mesenchymal stromal cells (hPDL-MSCs) are largely involved by producing matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and their local inhibitors (TIMPs). Apart from orthodontic forces, the synthesis of MMPs and TIMPs is influenced by the aseptic inflammation occurring during orthodontic treatment. Interleukin (IL)-1β is one of the most abundant inflammatory mediators in this process and crucially affects the expression of MMPs and TIMPs in the presence of cyclic low-magnitude orthodontic tensile forces.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to identify the relative strengths and weaknesses of different interfaces within the multilayer structure of a zirconia crown restoration when applying different surface pretreatments. These include the influence on shear strengths of different air abrasion protocols, glaze-on techniques, zirconia primers and self-adhesive cements for either the complex structure: zirconia / self adhesive resin composite cement (RCC) / bovine dentin substrate (part 1) or the RCC / zirconia substrate (part 2).

Objectives: To assess the reliability of judging the spatial relation between the inferior alveolar nerve (IAN) and mandibular third molar (MTM) based on MRI or CT/CBCT images.

The Upper Palaeolithic double burial of newborns and the single burial of a ca. 3-month-old infant uncovered at the Gravettian site of Krems-Wachtberg, Austria, are of paramount importance given the rarity of immature human remains from this time. Genome-wide ancient DNA shows that the male infants of the double grave are the earliest reported case of monozygotic twins, while the single grave´s individual was their 3rd-degree male relative.
