Purpose: To investigate the efficacy of liposomal prednisolone phosphate to mitigate the severity of proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) in a minipig model of PVR.
Methods: A total of 18 eyes of 9 minipigs underwent PVR induction surgically. Eyes were randomized equally into three groups: intravitreal injection of liposomal prednisolone phosphate (LPP), triamcinolone acetonide (TA), and controls.

Dynamic contrast-enhanced (DCE) perfusion imaging has shown great potential to non-invasively assess cancer development and its treatment by their characteristic tissue signatures. Different tracer kinetics models are being applied to estimate tissue and tumor perfusion parameters from DCE perfusion imaging. The goal of this work is to provide an model-based pipeline to evaluate how these DCE imaging parameters may relate to the true tissue parameters.

Nanoparticles have unique properties that can be exploited for cancer diagnosis and therapy. Intravenously injected nanoparticles accumulate predominantly in organs of the mononuclear phagocytic system, in addition to localizing in tumors and at sites of inflammation and infection. Accumulation in the liver and spleen lowers nanoparticles' ability to target pathological sites and compromises their use for radionuclide therapy.

Intravenous administration of liposomal drugs can entail infusion reactions, also known as hypersensitivity reactions (HSRs), that can be severe and sometimes life-threatening in a small portion of patients. One empirical approach to prevent these reactions consists of lowering the infusion speed and extending the infusion time of the drug. However, different liposomal drugs have different levels of reactogenicity, which means that the optimal protocol for each liposomal drug may differ and should be identified and evaluated to make the treatment as safe and convenient as possible.

Antiangiogenic and cytotoxic effects are considered the principal mechanisms of action of sorafenib, a multitarget kinase inhibitor approved for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). We report that sorafenib also acts through direct immune modulation, indispensable for its antitumor activity. In vivo cell depletion experiments in two orthotopic HCC mouse models as well as in vitro analysis identified macrophages (MΦ) as the key mediators of the antitumoral effect and demonstrate a strong interdependency of MΦ and natural killer (NK) cells for efficient tumor cell killing.

Hypoxia is a characteristic feature of solid tumors and an important cause of resistance to radiotherapy. Hypoxic cell radiosensitizers have been shown to increase radiotherapy efficacy, but dose-limiting side effects prevent their widespread use in the clinic. We propose the encapsulation of hypoxic cell radiosensitizers in temperature-sensitive liposomes (TSL) to target the radiosensitizers specifically to tumors and to avoid unwanted accumulation in healthy tissues.
