Presbyopia is an age-related ocular condition, typically affecting individuals aged over 40 years, characterized by a gradual and irreversible decline in the eye's ability to focus on nearby objects. Correction methods for presbyopia encompass the use of corrective lenses, surgical interventions (corneal or lens based), and, more recently, the FDA-approved topical administration of 1.25% pilocarpine.

Background: Neoplastic lesions affecting peripheral nerves are rare in the general population and, most often, are benign peripheral nerve sheath tumors. However, a minority of lesions represent high-grade malignancies associated with a poor prognosis, such as malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs). Very rarely, these tumors represent peripheral non-nerve sheath tumors (PNNSTs), such as hematological neoplasms that impair nerve function.

Background: Liver uptake in [Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 PET is used as an internal reference in addition to clinical parameters to select patients for [Lu]Lu-PSMA-617 radioligand therapy (RLT). Due to increased demand, [Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 was replaced by [F]F-PSMA-1007, a more lipophilic tracer with different biodistribution and splenic uptake was suggested as a new internal reference. We compared the intra-patient tracer distribution between [Ga]Ga-PSMA-11 and [F]F-PSMA-1007.

HIV-1 encodes four accesory proteins in addition to its structural and regulatory genes. Uniquely amongst them, Vpr is abundantly present within virions, meaning it is poised to exert various biological effects on the host cell upon delivery. In this way, Vpr contributes towards the establishment of a successful infection, as evidenced by the extent to which HIV-1 depends on this factor to achieve full pathogenicity in vivo.

Objectives: Antinuclear antibodies (ANA) of the IgE-type have been described in several connective tissue disorders (CTD) but not yet in systemic sclerosis (SSc). Aim of the study was, therefore, to establish an ELISA for the demonstration of IgE-autoantibodies to topoisomerase-I (topo-I) and the centromeric proteins A and B (CENP-A/B), to assess their prevalence and reactivity in SSc and to analyse their clinical relevance.
Methods: One hundred fifty-one patients with SSc and 88 with CREST-syndrome, 291 patients with other CTD, and 23 patients with fibromyalgia syndrome (FM) as a control collective were included into the study.

Background: Treatment with high-dose chemotherapy followed by autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (aHSCT) is an intensive treatment option for patients with severe forms of systemic sclerosis (SSc). Even though associated with a high treatment related mortality, the results in this high-risk population are generally favourable. The knowledge on the potential mechanism of action of this therapy and how it can improve patients with SSc is crucial to better select the right patients for aHSCT.

Background: Effective treatment options are limited for patients with advanced melanoma who have progressed on immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) and targeted therapies (TT). Preclinical models support the combination of ICI with TT; however, clinical trials evaluating the efficacy of triplet combinations in first-line setting showed limited advantage compared to TT only.
Methods: We conducted a retrospective, multicenter study, that included patients with advanced melanoma who were treated with BRAF/MEK inhibitors in combination with an anti-PD-(L)1 antibody (triplet therapy) after failure of at least one anti-PD-(L)1-based therapy and one TT in seven major melanoma centers between February 2016 and July 2022.

Unlabelled: Worldwide, more than eight million people die each year as a result of tobacco use. A large proportion of smokers who want to quit are interested in alternative smoking cessation methods, of which hypnotherapy is the most popular. However, the efficacy of hypnotherapy as a tobacco cessation intervention cannot be considered sufficiently proven due to significant methodological limitations in the studies available to date.

Recent advances in molecular pathology and an improved understanding of the etiology of neuroendocrine neoplasms (NENs) have given rise to an updated World Health Organization classification. Since gastroenteropancreatic NENs (GEP-NENs) are the most common forms of NENs and their incidence has been increasing constantly, they will be the focus of our attention. Here, we review the findings at the foundation of the new classification system, discuss how it impacts imaging research and radiological practice, and illustrate typical and atypical imaging and pathological findings.

As our knowledge about the biology of Alzheimer's disease (AD) expands and we recognize the significance of early intervention for effective treatment, there is a shift in focus toward detecting the disease at an early stage. AD is characterized by the accumulation of misfolded amyloid-β (Aβ) and phosphorylated tau proteins in the brain, leading to the formation of senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. While a definitive diagnosis of AD can only be confirmed through autopsy by examining these pathological features, there are now reliable methods available for diagnosing the disease in living individuals.
