Aneurysms pose life-threatening risks due to the dilatation of the arteries and carry a high risk of rupture. Despite continuous research efforts, there are still no satisfactory or clinically effective pharmaceutical treatments for this condition. Accelerated inflammatory processes during aneurysm development lead to increased levels of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) and destabilization of the vessel wall through the degradation of the structural components of the extracellular matrix (ECM), mainly collagen and elastin.

Clinic for Cardiac Surgery and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Heart Center Duisburg, Duisburg, Germany.
Background: The German Registry for Cardiac Operations and Interventions in Patients with Congenital Heart Disease is a voluntary registry initiated by the German Society for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery and the German Society for Pediatric Cardiology and Congenital Heart Defects. Since 2012, the registry collects data for the assessment of treatment and outcomes of surgical and interventional procedures in patients with congenital heart disease (CHD) of all age groups.
Methods: This real-world, prospective all-comers registry collects clinical and procedural characteristics, adverse events (AEs), mortality, and medium-term outcomes (up to 90 days) of patients undergoing surgical and interventional.

Objectives: Counseling plays a key role in promoting health behaviors, providing evidence-based information, and supporting patients with cancer during and after treatment. This study aimed to evaluate an interprofessional counseling service on Complementary and Integrative Health (CIH) for patients being treated at Comprehensive Cancer Centers (CCCs) in Southern Germany.
Methods: Patients participating in the CCC-Integrativ study received three CIH counseling sessions within three months in addition to their conventional cancer treatment.

Background And Aims: High-dose chemotherapy (HDC) followed by autologous stem cell transplantation (ASCT) improves the prognosis in pediatric patients with several solid tumors and lymphomas. Little is known about the reconstitution of the immune system after ASCT and the influence of CD34+ cell selection on the reconstitution in pediatric patients.
Methods: Between 1990 and 2001, 94 pediatric patients with solid tumors and lymphomas received autologous CD34+ selected or unmanipulated peripheral stem cells after HDC.

Background: Minimally invasive bleb surgery using the XEN-45 gel stent has not been established for the treatment of normal-tension glaucoma (NTG). The main objective of this study was to evaluate the long-term treatment efficacy and safety of XEN-45 in eyes with uncontrolled NTG.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of patients with NTG who underwent XEN-45 gel stent implantation at university hospital Tuebingen between 2016 and 2021.

The use of wearable technology is steadily increasing. In orthopedic trauma surgery, where the musculoskeletal system is directly affected, focus has been directed towards assessing aspects of physical functioning, activity behavior, and mobility/disability. This includes sensors and algorithms to monitor real-world walking speed, daily step counts, ground reaction forces, or range of motion.

Importance: The formation of adhesions after gynecological surgery not only has detrimental impacts on those affected, including pain, obstruction, and infertility, but also imposes a high economic burden on healthcare systems worldwide.
Objective: The aim of this review was to evaluate the adhesion prevention potential of all currently available adhesion barriers for gynecological surgery.
Evidence Acquisition: We systematically searched MEDLINE and CENTRAL databases for randomized controlled trials (RCTs) on the use of adhesion barriers as compared with peritoneal irrigation or no treatment in gynecological surgery.

In daily rheumatology practice, systemic sclerosis is primarily regarded as a potentially life-threatening disease characterized by fibrosis of various organs. Therefore, other manifestations, such as orofacial involvement, are often not of primary concern. Furthermore, due to its rarity, the disease might not be well known by dentists, which contrasts with the increased risk of various problems in the oral cavity.

Background: A growing body of evidence suggests that children of mothers with eating disorders (EDs) have a greater risk of early feeding problems. Recognizing and reacting adequately to the infant's signals during feeding is crucial for the child's development of internal and external regulatory mechanisms of food intake. Parental EDs might affect this ability.

Background: Reactivation of viral infections, in particular cytomegalovirus (CMV) and adenovirus (ADV), cause morbidity and non-relapse-mortality in states of immune deficiency, especially after allogeneic hematopoietic cell transplantation (allo-HCT). Against the background of few available pharmacologic antiviral agents, limited by toxicities and resistance, adoptive transfer of virus-specific T-cells (VST) is a promising therapeutic approach.
Methods: We conducted a single-center retrospective analysis of adult patients treated with ADV- or CMV-specific T-cells in 2012-2022.

Background: Many patients diagnosed with cancer use complementary and integrative healthcare (CIH) approaches to manage their cancer- and treatment-related symptoms and improve their well-being. Evidence suggests that counseling on CIH can improve health outcomes and decrease healthcare costs by increasing patient activation. This qualitative study explores the experiences of cancer patients who underwent interprofessional counseling on CIH to gain insights into how these patients were able to integrate recommended CIH measures into their daily lives while undergoing conventional cancer treatment.

Background: Pineal region lesions in children are heterogenous pathologies often symptomatic due to occlusive hydrocephalus and thus elevated intracranial pressure (ICP). MRI-derived parameters to assess hydrocephalus are the optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) as a surrogate for ICP and the frontal occipital horn ratio (FOHR), representing ventricle volume. As elevated ICP may not always be associated with clinical signs, the adjunct of ONSD could help decision making in patients undergoing treatment.

Background: Supervised injectable opioid treatment (SIOT) is a promising alternative for people living with opioid use disorder (OUD) who have not sufficiently benefitted from oral opioid substitution treatment. Yet, SIOT utilization remains limited in Germany. We propose that this is due to beliefs, or schemas, on SIOT among people living with OUD.

Autoimmune diseases (ADs) represent a heterogeneous group of conditions affecting 5-10% of the global population. In recent decades, hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT), mainly autologous, has been successfully adopted to treat patients affected by severe/refractory ADs. In this context malnutrition has a detrimental impact on relapse, mortality, infection rate, engraftment, long-term survival, and prolongation of hospitalization.
