Bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) has attracted considerable attention in the field of biomedical engineering due to its potential for use in bone regeneration applications. The present study investigates the in vitro and in vivo efficacy of bacterial nanocellulose (BNC) combined with calcium and cerium ions (BNC-Ce:CaP) in bone regeneration applications. XRD analysis confirmed the presence of monetite and hydroxyapatite phases in BNC-CaP, while BNC-Ce:CaP revealed an additional brushite phase.

Introduction: This study evaluated the dentoskeletal effects of miniscrew-anchored maxillary protraction, which included a mandibular anchorage bar and a night facemask in adolescents.
Methods: A total of 20 growing patients with Class III malocclusion and maxillary deficiency were treated with a hybrid hyrax expander with 2 miniscrews in the maxilla and a mandibular anchor bar supported in 2 miniscrews in the anterior region of the mandible. Class III elastics were used from the maxillary first molars to the mandibular anchorage bar, joining the mandibular miniscrews installed between permanent incisors and canines.

Background And Objective: The biological effects of atmospheric plasma (cold plasma) show its applicability for controlling the etiological factors that involve tissue repair. Thus, the study evaluated the effect of atmospheric plasma therapy in the control of tissue inflammation and bone remodeling in experimental periodontitis.
Methods: Fifty-six rats were subjected to ligation in the cervical region of the first maxillary molars (8 weeks).

Cosmetic residues have been found in water resources, especially trace elements of precursors, couplers, and pigments of hair dyes, which are indiscriminately disposed of in the sewage system. These contaminants are persistent, bioactive, and bioaccumulative, and may pose risks to living beings. Thus, the present study assessed the ecotoxicity of two types of effluents generated in beauty salons after the hair dyeing process.

Renovascular hypertension (RHV) is the cause of high blood pressure due to left renal ischemia, and obesity and hypertension cause an inflammatory response. This work analyzed the inflammatory and tissue repair profile in renal, hepatic, and cardiac tissues in an animal model of RVH associated with a high-fat diet and caloric restriction. The expressions of RORγ-t, IL-17, T-bet, and TNF-α decreased and IFN-γ increased in the right kidney.

Background: Transverse deficiencies of the maxillary basal bone have been treated in adult patients using miniscrew-assisted rapid palatal expansion (MARPE) therapy. However, the midpalatal suture's degree of ossification may affect the upper airway dimensions. This study compared the volumetric changes of the total upper, retropalatal, retroglossal airways, and the minimal transverse airway constriction after MARPE therapy in patients with midpalatal suture in the last stages of ossification.

Background: With the ageing process changes in the musculature of oro-facial structures take place, consequently there is a reduction in the strength and mobility of the lips, tongue and cheeks.
Objective: The aim of this study was to correlate oro-facial structures and chewing and swallowing functions among a group of senior citizens and young adults and check the influence of lip and tongue pressure of these functions.
Methods: This is an observational, cross-sectional and analytical study.

Natural rubber latex (NRL) is a biopolymer widely used in biomedical applications. In this work, we propose an innovative cosmetic face mask, combining the NRL's biological properties with curcumin (CURC), which has a high level of antioxidant activity (AA) to provide anti-aging benefits. Chemical, mechanical and morphological characterizations were performed.

Cardiovascular diseases affect a large part of the population during adulthood. Several epidemiological and experimental studies have demonstrated an association between maternal protein restriction and a marked risk of developing heart disease during early intrauterine and postnatal life. Maternal nutritional conditions act by modulating the microenvironment, thus favoring adaptive processes of the fetal organism for development to occur.

Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD) is a genetic disease linked to the X chromosome induced by mutations in the dystrophin gene. Neuroprotective drugs, such as pregabalin (PGB), can improve motor function through the modulation of excitatory synapses, together with anti-apoptotic and anti-inflammatory effects. The present work studied the effects of PGB in the preservation of dystrophic peripheral nerves, allowing motor improvements in MDX mice.
