Malaria parasites of humans have evolved resistance to all current antimalarial drugs, urging for the discovery of new effective compounds. Background: Obesity is a worldwide disease related to genetic, environmental, and behavioral factors, and it is associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Recently, obesity has been characterized by a low-grade inflammatory state known as inflammome indicated by chronic increases in circulating concentrations of inflammatory markers. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of weight loss induced by surgery for obesity and weight-related diseases on pro-inflammatory cytokine (TNF-α) and anti-inflammatory adipokine (adiponectin) levels, and on an adipose-derived hormone (leptin) in severely obese subjects.

This case report aimed to describe the effects of leukocyte and platelet-rich fibrin (L-PRF) associated with demineralized bovine bone mineral (DBBM) and absorbable collagen membrane (CM) on bone regeneration in maxillary sinus augmentation. The relationship between sleep disorders and bronchiectasis has not been well described. We hypothesize that, due to the irreversible dilatation of the bronchi, the presence of secretions, and airflow obstruction, patients with non-cystic fibrosis bronchiectasis may be predisposed to hypoxemia during sleep, or to symptoms that may lead to arousal. New anti-tuberculosis (anti-TB) drugs are urgently needed to battle drug-resistant Mycobacterium tuberculosis strains and to shorten the current 6-12-month treatment regimen. In this work, we have continued the efforts to develop chalcone-based anti-TB compounds by using an in silico design and QSAR-driven approach. Initially, we developed SAR rules and binary QSAR models using literature data for targeted design of new heteroaryl chalcone compounds with anti-TB activity.

Leishmaniasis are infectious diseases caused by parasites of genus Leishmania that affect affects 12 million people in 98 countries mainly in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Effective treatments for this disease are urgently needed. In this study, we present a computer-aided approach to investigate a set of 32 recently synthesized chalcone and chalcone-like compounds to act as antileishmanial agents.
