Antimicrobial resistance and biofilm formation by microbial pathogens pose a significant challenge to poultry production systems due to the persistent risk of dissemination and compromise of bird health and productivity. In this context, the study aimed to investigate the occurrence of different multiresistance phenotypes and the biofilm-forming ability of Enterobacteriaceae isolated from broiler chicken excreta in poultry production units in Ceará, Brazil. Samples were collected from three distinct broiler breeding facilities and subjected to isolation, identification, antibiotic susceptibility testing, phenotypic screening for β-lactamases enzymes, and biofilm formation evaluation.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a debilitating condition that can cause locomotor problems in affected patients, such as tremors and body rigidity. PD therapy often includes the use of monoamine oxidase B (MAOB) inhibitors, particularly phenylhalogen compounds and coumarin-based semi-synthetic compounds. The objective of this study was to analyze the structural, pharmacokinetic, and pharmacodynamic profile of a series of Triazolo Thiadiazepine-fused Coumarin Derivatives (TDCDs) against MAOB, in comparison with the inhibitor safinamide.

The increasing prevalence of antimicrobial resistance among bacterial pathogens necessitates novel treatment strategies, particularly in veterinary medicine where otitis in dogs is very common in small animals' clinical routines. Considering this challenge, this study explores the efficacy of aromatic plant compounds (APC), including eugenol (EUG), trans-cinnamaldehyde (TC), and geraniol (GER), and their synergistic potential when combined with the antiseptic agent chlorhexidine (CLX), offering insight into alternative therapeutic approaches. The disk diffusion assay revealed differential sensitivity of Staphylococcus spp.

The Enterobacteriaceae family is recognized as a primary group of Gram-negative pathogens responsible for foodborne illnesses and is frequently associated with antibiotic resistance. The present study explores the natural-based compound trans-cinnamaldehyde (TC) against drug-resistant Enterobacteriaceae and its synergism with gentamicin (GEN) to address this issue. The research employs three strains of Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Enterobacter cloacae, previously isolated from shrimp.

The aim of this work was to evaluate the anti-Escherichia coli effect of cell-free supernatant (CFS) of Lactobacillus spp. against planktonic and biofilm forms of foodborne isolates. Escherichiacoli strains (P12, P25, P35 and P36), previously isolated from fresh filets of fish, were subjected to antimicrobial susceptibility determination by the disc-diffusion agar method.

Background And Objective: Non-invasive methods for postural assessment are tools used for tracking and monitoring the progression of postural deviations. Different computer-based methods have been used to assess human posture, including mobile applications based on images and sensors. However, such solutions still require manual identification of anatomical points.

Objetive: This study aimed to evaluate the anti-resorptive activity of a semi-synthetic coumarin derivative from Platymiscium floribundum, named 6,7-dimethoxy-3-nitrocoumarin.
Material And Methods: Molecular docking studies were performed to test the binding performance of the derivative against targets associated with alveolar bone loss (TNF-α, IL-1β, and catalase) and a target considered an antioxidant defense (HO-1) during periodontitis. Periodontitis was induced by placing a nylon ligature around the second molars.

A sulfated polysaccharide from the red algae Gelidiella acerosa (GaSP) was obtained through enzymatic extraction and subjected to chemical characterization by HPSEC, elemental microanalysis, FT-IR and NMR spectroscopies. The GaSP anticoagulant activity was investigated through APTT and PT tests and platelet aggregation assessed by turbidimetry. The antithrombotic and hemorrhagic activities were evaluated by venous thrombosis and hemorrhagic tendency models, respectively.

Human posture and Range of Motion (ROM) are important components of a physical assessment and, from the collected data, it is possible to identify postural deviations such as scoliosis or joint and muscle limitations, hence identifying risks of more serious injuries. Posture assessment and ROM measures are also necessary metrics to monitor the effect of treatments used in the motor rehabilitation of patients, as well as to monitor their clinical progress. These evaluation processes are more frequently performed through visual inspection and manual palpation, which are simple and low cost methods.

Background: Ciprofloxacin (Cip) is the most commonly used quinolone in clinical practice; however large-scale use has favored the increase of multiresistant pathogenic microorganisms. Antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) appear to be a promising alternative in potentiating these conventional drugs.
Objective: The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of the peptide Lys-[Trp6]hy-a1 (lys-a1) on the antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity of ciprofloxacin against clinically relevant gram-negative bacteria.

The bioactive compounds found in foods and medicinal plants are attractive molecules for the development of new drugs with action against several diseases, such as those associated with inflammatory processes, which are commonly related to oxidative stress. Many of these compounds have an appreciable inhibitory effect on oxidative stress and inflammatory response, and may contribute in a preventive way to improve the quality of life through the use of a diet rich in these compounds. Eugenol is a natural compound that has several pharmacological activities, action on the redox status, and applications in the food and pharmaceutical industry.
