Among the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) proposed within the 2030 Agenda and adopted by all the United Nations member states, the 13th SDG is a call for action to combat climate change. The optimized design of the catalyst layer (CL) plays a vital role in improving the performance of polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cells (PEMFCs). The need to improve transport and catalyst activity is especially important at low Pt loading, where local oxygen and ionic transport resistances decrease the performance due to an inevitable reduction in active catalyst sites. We present a novel near-infrared spectroscopy technique based on Dual-Comb optical interrogation (DC-NIRS) applied to dispersive media. The technique recovers the frequency response of the medium under investigation by sampling its spectral response in amplitude and phase.
