This study aimed to determine whether intermuscular adipose tissue (IMAT) or intramuscular adipose tissue content (IMAC) has a greater effect on skeletal muscle density (SMD) and to explore the underlying mechanisms. We recruited 292 inpatients without musculoskeletal system disease, all of whom underwent abdominal CT. Muscle parameters, including skeletal muscle area (SMA), skeletal muscle index (SMI), SMD, IMAC, and IMAT, as well as fat parameters-subcutaneous fat area (SFA) and subcutaneous fat density (SFD) in the abdominal wall-were measured by two musculoskeletal radiologists using ImageJ software at the third lumbar vertebra (L3) level.

First-line nivolumab-plus-chemotherapy demonstrated superior overall survival (OS) and progression-free survival versus chemotherapy for advanced gastroesophageal adenocarcinoma with programmed death ligand 1 combined positive score ≥ 5, meeting both primary end points of the randomized phase 3 CheckMate 649 trial. Nivolumab-plus-ipilimumab provided durable responses and higher survival rates versus chemotherapy; however, the prespecified OS significance boundary was not met. To identify biomarkers predictive of differential efficacy outcomes, post hoc exploratory analyses were performed using whole-exome sequencing and RNA sequencing.

Intervertebral disc (IVD) degeneration (IVDD), primarily caused by nucleus pulposus (NP) dehydration, leads to low back pain. While current treatments focus on symptom management or surgical intervention, tissue engineering using IVD-derived cells, biofactors, and scaffolds offers a promising regenerative approach. Here, human NP cells (NPCs) and annulus fibrosus cells (AFCs) are immortalized with human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), generating immortalized NPCs (iHNPCs) and AFCs (iHAFCs).

Since the introduction of chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy, it has elicited an immense response in both targeted and residual cancers. Its clinical efficacy is often accompanied by a group of side effects that may become serious because of factors such as tumor burden, the extent of lymphodepletion, and the type of co-stimulus. It is also crucial to know the common toxicities associated with CAR T-cell therapy, including cytokine release syndrome (CRS), immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS), cardiotoxicity, metabolic disorders, pulmonary toxicity, macrophage activation syndrome (MAS), prolonged cytopenia, coagulation disorders, and potential off-target effects on various organs.
