Purpose: To determine the effect of low hypermetropia correction and orthoptic exercises on binocular visual function in children with symptomatic convergence insufficiency.
Methods: This was a prospective, randomized intervention with a 3-month follow-up. Consecutive pediatric patients with convergence insufficiency and hypermetropia who met inclusion criteria were randomly assigned to one of three treatment groups: spectacle correction and orthoptic training (group 1), spectacle correction alone (group 2) and orthoptic training alone (group 3).

The orbit is an important structure within the skull that houses the eye, optic nerve, and extraocular muscles. It also contains adipose/fat tissue, which provides a protective cushion for these components. Inflammatory orbital disease can affect any or all components of the orbit, often arising from various underlying pathologic conditions, including autoimmune, infectious, and vascular diseases.

Purpose: This study is to investigate the impact of the coexistence of basic intermittent exotropia and vertical incomitance in the form of the V and sub-V pattern on the results of surgical correction of intermittent exotropia.
Methods: The records of 81 pediatric patients who had surgery for intermittent exotropia and a follow-up of more than 1 year were reviewed retrospectively. They were divided into groups: a concomitant group which underwent only horizontal muscle surgery of bilateral lateral rectus recession and a V pattern group which had additional inferior oblique recession, further separated into two subgroups: ≥ 15 prism diopters (classic V pattern group) and ≥ 10 < 15 prism diopters (sub-V pattern group).

Background: Sjögren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease, and its important feature is the lymphocyte infiltration of exocrine glands, including lacrimal glands. It contributes to defects of their activity and causes that one of the main manifestation of Sjögren's syndrome is dry eye. Unfortunately, the discrimination between dry eye related and non-related to Sjögren's syndrome is difficult at the initial stages of diseases.

Purpose: To present and examine the results of surgical correction of simultaneous ocular elevation and depression deficit in patients who underwent reconstruction surgery for orbital floor fracture.
Methods: A retrospective analysis of medical records of patients who had undergone surgical correction for diplopia associated with orbital fracture which persisted after orbital reconstruction surgery. All patients underwent orthoptic evaluation before surgery and postoperatively with various times of follow-up.

Background: The evaluation of contrast sensitivity is an important additional examination that allows the physician to achieve the full picture of a patient's quality of vision. In low-contrast conditions, more discrete visual dysfunctions may be revealed, which could be overlooked in high-contrast tests.
Methods: The examined group consisted of 33 eyes of 27 patients with multiple sclerosis.

Endogenous endophthalmitis is a rare and severe intraocular infection which can be vision-threatening. We describe a case of bilateral fungal endogenous endophthalmitis in a 64-year-old male which was successfully treated with systemic administration of fluconazole followed by pars plana vitrectomy with an intravitreous injection of amphotericin B.

Toxic optic neuropathies are not frequently encountered in routine practice, however, they present a challenge both in terms of diagnosis and treatment. The aim of this paper is to present an unusual case of ethyl alcohol poisoning causing bilateral toxic optic neuropathy with loss of vision.

Purpose: Measuring the anterior chamber diameter (AC) is important both for diagnostics and before ocular surgery. In clinical practice, horizontal AC diameter is usually estimated on the basis of measurements of corneal diameter (so-called white-to-white [WTW] distance). The usual method for selecting an appropriate size for an AC lens is to add 1 mm to WTW measurement.

Purpose: To analyze early corneal endothelial cell loss due to microincision cataract surgery (MICS) in comparison with standard phacoemulsification through the temporal clear corneal incision.
Methods: The examined group consisted of a nonrandomized, consecutive prospective series of 20 eyes of 20 patients who underwent uneventful microincision cataract surgery. Twenty eyes of 20 patients who underwent standard phacoemulsification with foldable intraocular lens (IOL) implantation served as a reference group.
