To support the inclusion of residents with physical disabilities in residency, we outline a proactive approach to the accommodations process and inclusion of a resident with a physical disability in pediatric residency.

Childhood absence epilepsy (CAE) is a paediatric generalized epilepsy disorder with a confounding feature of resolving in adolescence in a majority of cases. In this study, we modelled how the small-scale (synapse-level) effect of progesterone metabolite allopregnanolone induces a large-scale (network-level) effect on a thalamocortical circuit associated with this disorder. In particular, our goal was to understand the role of sex steroid hormones in the spontaneous remission of CAE.

This study presented a novel approach for the precise ablation of breast tumors using focused ultrasound (FUS), leveraging a physics-informed neural network (PINN) integrated with a realistic breast model. FUS has shown significant promise in treating breast tumors by effectively targeting and ablating cancerous tissue. This technique employs concentrated ultrasonic waves to generate intense heat, effectively destroying cancerous tissue.

Purpose: Training machine learning models to segment tumors and other anomalies in medical images is an important step for developing diagnostic tools but generally requires manually annotated ground truth segmentations, which necessitates significant time and resources. We aim to develop a pipeline that can be trained using readily accessible binary image-level classification labels, to effectively segment regions of interest without requiring ground truth annotations.

Methods: This work proposes the use of a deep superpixel generation model and a deep superpixel clustering model trained simultaneously to output weakly supervised brain tumor segmentations.

Meayamycins are synthetic analogs of the natural product FR901464 and exhibit potent anticancer activity against human cancers. They bind SF3B1 and PHF5A, components of the human spliceosome, and they alter pre-mRNA splicing. Detailed analysis of the active site led us to investigate a narrow pocket within the binding site that surrounds the α,β-unsaturated amide portion of meayamycin.

The cumulated π system of a nonsymmetric allene contains three distinct unsaturated carbons that imbue it with unique reactivity toward radicals as compared to its alkene and alkyne counterparts. Despite the synthetic potential of these versatile building blocks, electrochemical transformations of allenes have been historically underexplored. Myriad strategies for easy access to allenes, coupled with the resurgence of interest in sustainable oxidative transformations of hydrocarbons, prompted our efforts to conduct an in-depth investigation of a rare example of an electrochemical TEMPO-mediated allene dioxygenation.

In previous work, a Large Eddy Simulation turbulence (LES) algorithm was developed for finite element-based computational fluid dynamics, using a hybrid continuous-discontinuous Galerkin scheme. The test case for this was a backward-facing step, which is a well-known example with published experimental results for validation. The results of this simulation were used to produce temporal statistics, such as averaged velocity and Reynolds stress profiles, and time-series data.

Recent Findings: Despite an expanding evidence base, only three SUD DTxs have received federal regulatory approval. Across studies, DTx products have proven successful in engaging patients in SUD treatment and reducing healthcare costs and resource utilizations.

Uncontrolled degradation and collapse of stalled replication forks (RFs) are primary sources of genomic instability, yet the molecular mechanisms for protecting forks from degradation/collapse remain to be fully elaborated. Here, we show that polynucleotide kinase-phosphatase (PNKP) localizes at stalled forks and protects stalled forks from excessive degradation. The loss of PNKP results in nucleolytic degradation of nascent DNA at stalled RFs.

A novel Gram-stain-positive, black-pigmented bacterium, designated as WL48A , was isolated from the surface of badland sedimentary rock in the Red Desert of Wyoming and characterized using a polyphasic taxonomic approach. Good growth occurred at 28-32 °C, pH 7-9, and NaCl less than 1% (w/v). Colonies, growing well on International Streptomyces Project media (ISP) 3 and ISP 7, were black and adhering to the agar.

Research specific to the RN-BSN student experience suggests that faculty teaching in RN-BSN programs must be respectful of diverse learners' needs, mindful to avoid bias and reduce stigma, and capable in creating equitable learning spaces. Faculty must also make content relevant to support immediate use by students in the workplace.
