Immunization with mosaic-8b (nanoparticles presenting 8 SARS-like betacoronavirus [sarbecovirus] receptor-binding domains [RBDs]) elicits more broadly cross-reactive antibodies than homotypic SARS-CoV-2 RBD-only nanoparticles and protects against sarbecoviruses. To investigate original antigenic sin (OAS) effects on mosaic-8b efficacy, we evaluated the effects of prior COVID-19 vaccinations in non-human primates and mice on anti-sarbecovirus responses elicited by mosaic-8b, admix-8b (8 homotypics), or homotypic SARS-CoV-2 immunizations, finding the greatest cross-reactivity for mosaic-8b. As demonstrated by molecular fate mapping, in which antibodies from specific cohorts of B cells are differentially detected, B cells primed by WA1 spike mRNA-LNP dominated antibody responses after RBD-nanoparticle boosting.

Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1) is a heterogeneous multisystemic disease caused by a CTG repeat expansion in DMPK. Transcription of the expanded allele produces toxic CUG repeat RNA that sequesters the MBNL family of alternative splicing (AS) regulators into ribonuclear foci, leading to pathogenic mis-splicing. To identify genetic modifiers of toxic CUG RNA levels and the spliceopathy, we performed a genome-scale siRNA screen using an established HeLa DM1 repeat-selective screening platform.

Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) pose great risks to human health and the ecosystem, necessitating effective remediation strategies such as phytoremediation. Surfactants, due to their ability to increase the bioavailability of hydrophobic contaminants, are considered as potential agents to improve phytoremediation for PFAS. In this research, we explored the impact of four surfactants (sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS), rhamnolipid, Triton X-100, and Glucopone 600 CS UP) on plant growth and the uptake of PFAS by red fescue over 110 days.

Childhood family stress (CFS) exacerbates risk for physical health problems across the lifespan. Health risks associated with CFS are particularly relevant for women who tend to endorse more CFS than men. Importantly, some evidence suggests that individuals may vary in their susceptibility to CFS.

Anti-D can occur in D-positive patients who inherit RHD genetic variants encoding partial D antigen expression, but unexpected anti-D is also found in the plasma of patients with sickle cell disease who have conventional RHD gene(s) and are transfused with units from Black donors. These anti-D are likely stimulated by variant Rh expressed on donor cells; however, patients with anti-D, regardless of cause, are transfused for a lifetime with D-negative (Rh-negative) blood. This results in significant increased use of Rh-negative units, especially for those requiring chronic transfusion, which can strain Rh-negative blood inventories.

The synthetic progestin, 17-α-hydroxyprogesterone caproate (17-OHPC), is administered to pregnant individuals at risk for recurrent preterm birth during a critical period of fetal mesocorticolimbic serotonergic and dopaminergic pathway development. These pathways play an important role in regulating cognitive behaviors later in life. Despite this, there has been very little research regarding the potential long-term effects of 17-OHPC on the behavioral and neural development of exposed children.

A long-standing issue about the correct identification of an important starting reagent, iron(III) hexafluoroacetylacetonate, Fe(hfac) (1), has been resolved. The tris-chelated mononuclear complex was found to crystallize in two polymorph modifications which can be assigned as the low-temperature (1-L) monoclinic P2/n and the high-temperature (1-H) trigonal P-3. Low-temperature polymorph 1-L was found to transform to 1-H upon sublimation at 44 °C.

Background: Establishing healthy behaviors during a child's first 5 years is essential for healthy growth. Parents are targeted as agents of change because they serve as primary models of behavior during this period. Although parent-focused interventions often target empowerment as a driver of change, our understanding of how parents experience the process of empowerment in the context of child health promotion remains limited.

The accuracy in assigning fluorophore identity and abundance, termed spectral unmixing, in biological fluorescence microscopy images remains challenging due to the unavoidable and significant overlap in emission spectra among fluorophores. In conventional laser scanning confocal spectral microscopy, fluorophore information is acquired by recording emission spectra with a single combination of discrete excitation wavelengths. As a matter of fact, organic fluorophores have not only unique emission spectral signatures but also have unique and characteristic excitation spectra.

Chemical reduction of a vertically expanded pentacene, TIPS--pentacenopentacene (TIPS-PPP), with sodium metal in THF readily afforded a doubly-reduced product isolated as [{Na(THF)}(TIPS-PPP2-)]. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction revealed the formation of a π-complex of TIPS-PPP2- with two {Na(THF)} moieties. The sodium ion is coordinated to three C-atoms at the most negatively charged edge sites and at the lateral ethynyl group.

Background: Influenza healthcare encounters in adults associated with specific sources of PM is an area of active research.
Objective: Following 2017 legislation requiring reductions in emissions from light-duty vehicles, we hypothesized a reduced rate of influenza healthcare encounters would be associated with concentrations of PM from traffic sources in the early implementation period of this regulation (2017-2019).
Methods: We used the Statewide Planning and Research Cooperative System (SPARCS) to study adult patients hospitalized (N = 5328) or treated in the emergency department (N = 18,247) for influenza in New York State.

Historically, evidence-based psychotherapy training has favored the standardized application of discrete treatment packages, with key outcomes being the therapist's adherence to and competent delivery of theory-prescribed ingredients. However, this model often fails to align with the priorities and values of clinicians, and research casts doubt on the notion that a therapist's faithful application of treatment protocols is a valid index of clinical expertise. Considering this, training and practice models that emphasize evidence-based clinician flexibility and patient-centered tailoring of interventions are receiving increased attention.

Context: Representation of racial and ethnic minority groups and sexual and gender minority groups is limited on public health data dashboards. The small size of these populations leads to data being aggregated or suppressed to produce stable estimations and preserve individuals' information privacy. This might, however, limit the usefulness of the represented data for identifying individuals' risk factors and allocating services.
