Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cell physiology understanding has advanced very rapidly in the past few years with incredible improvements in long-read sequencing, improved resolution, and increased computational power. Multiple parental lines have been sequenced and the resultant pan-genome can be leveraged to increase our understanding of the diverse pathways CHO cells can take to get high-productivity phenotypes. The same improvements in workflows have complemented transcriptomic studies.

Benzyl butyl phthalate (BBP), a plasticizer found in a wide range of consumer products including vinyl flooring, carpet backing, food packaging, personal care products, and children's toys, is an endocrine-disrupting chemical linked to impaired reproduction and development in humans. Despite evidence that BBP exposure perturbs the integrity of male and female gametes, its direct effect on early meiotic events is understudied. Here, using the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans, we show that BBP exposure elicits a non-monotonic dose response on the rate of X-chromosome nondisjunction measured using a high-throughput screening platform.

Accumulating research has supported the potential for body positivity content on Instagram to challenge predominant appearance ideals and promote a healthier body image. However, research in diverse groups is lacking - in particular, individuals with a disability have largely been neglected. Using #Disabled #BodyPositivity, this analysis examined the content of 623 body positive posts on Instagram.

Background This study analyzed the incidence, characteristics, and mortality risk associated with cryptogenic organizing pneumonia (COP) among hospitalizations for systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) with lung involvement. Methods Adult hospitalizations from the 2016-2020 nationwide inpatient sample were analyzed using relevant International Classification of Diseases (ICD)-10 codes for SLE with lung involvement (M32.13) and COP (J84.

This article explores medical diplomacy as a means of navigating distinct but related nation-building and internationalist projects during the Cold War. It examines how medical professionals from the Democratic Republic of Vietnam (DRV) utilized their expertise to bolster foreign relations and assert national independence. This article focuses on how three tuberculosis (TB) specialists - Đặng Đức Trạch, Phạm Ngọc Thạch and Phạm Khắc Quảng - adopted, adapted and circulated techniques of TB control, including a modified version of bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine.

Electronic waste (e-waste) poses significant environmental and health risks in Thailand due to both domestic production and international imports. A notable portion of this waste is processed in small-scale, community-based workshops, often located in poorer regions, where safety regulations are improperly enforced or entirely ignored. This study focuses on the Kalasin province in Northern Thailand, a region with numerous such workshops, where no comprehensive analysis of exposure to polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs) and dechlorane plus (DP) has been conducted.

Background: Adolescent sexual violence victimization is a significant public health issue in the United States. Structural sexism, a form of gender inequality at the societal level, may play a crucial role in influencing the prevalence of sexual violence victimization among adolescents.
Objective: This study aims to examine the association between state-level structural sexism and sexual violence victimization among adolescents and to explore how this relationship varies between male and female adolescents.

Introduction: Early and accurate diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is crucial for effective intervention, yet it remains a significant challenge due to its complexity and variability. Micro-expressions are rapid, involuntary facial movements indicative of underlying emotional states. It is unknown whether micro-expression can serve as a valid bio-marker for ASD diagnosis.

Objective: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is diagnosed by a combination of three features: hyperandrogenism (biochemical and/or clinical), ovulatory dysfunction, and polycystic ovarian morphology, usually detected by ultrasonography. Our study aimed to determine the need for androgen measurements by using hirsutism to establish hyperandrogenism for diagnosing PCOS in a medically unbiased population.
Materials And Methods: We utilized a pre-existing cohort of unselected (medically unbiased) females aged 18-45 years.

Objectives: Vaccine hesitancy represents an important challenge to the effective control of the COVID-19 pandemic. In prior research on seasonal influenza, childhood vaccination, and emergency vaccination programs, hesitancy has been associated with a wide range of demographic, psychological, and compliance factors.
Methods: In January 2021, an online survey was distributed using the Qualtrics (Provo, UT) platform to a proportional quota sample of individuals in three states: Louisiana, New York, and Washington.

Importance: The number of both US citizen and noncitizen international medical graduates (IMGs) practicing in the United States has grown substantially over the last two decades, but little is known about how these groups differ in clinical specialty and practice location.
Objective: To evaluate the effects of citizenship status on IMG specialty choice (primary care vs nonprimary care) and practice location (rural and health professional shortage areas [HPSAs]).
Design: To analyze the retrospective, cross sectional data between 2010 and 2019, we estimated a series of multivariate logistic regressions with year fixed effects after assessing trends in new physician specialty choice and practice location.

Background: Traditional treatments for post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) often show limited success with high dropout. Ketamine, an -methyl-D-aspartate antagonist known for rapid antidepressant effects, has decreased PTSD symptoms in some studies but not in others. Administering ketamine in ways that parallel psychedelic-assisted treatments-including preparatory, integration, sensory immersion, and psychotherapy sessions-could decrease PTSD symptoms meaningfully.

In this work, we analyzed the electrophoretic behavior of a double crossover (DX) DNA motif in various counter ions. The influence of the type and concentration of counter ions on electrophoretic behavior is different for the DX motif compared to a duplex of the same molecular weight. Higher concentrations of divalent ions Mg and Ca in the gel and running buffer reduce the electrophoretic migration of the DX motif.

Myotonic dystrophy type 1 (DM1), the leading cause of adult-onset muscular dystrophy, is caused by a CTG repeat expansion. Expression of the repeat causes widespread alternative splicing (AS) defects and downstream pathogenesis, including significant skeletal muscle impacts. The mouse model plays a significant role in therapeutic development.

The tumor suppressor gene encodes the DNA binding transcription factor p53 and is one of the most commonly mutated genes in human cancer. Tumor suppressor activity requires binding of p53 to its DNA response elements and subsequent transcriptional activation of a diverse set of target genes. Despite decades of close study, the logic underlying p53 interactions with its numerous potential genomic binding sites and target genes is not yet fully understood.
