A tunable high-Q resonator is performed in the schematics of the General Impedance Converter (GIC). In the framework of frequency dependent open-loop gain of operational amplifiers, a general formula of the frequency dependence of the impedance of GIC is derived. The explicit formulas for the resonance frequency and Q-factor include as an immanent parameter the crossover frequency of the operational amplifier.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major health problem because of its high prevalence, associated complications and high treatment costs. Several aspects of CKD differ significantly in the Eastern European nephrology community compared with Western Europe because of different geographic, socio-economic, infrastructure, cultural and educational features. The two most frequent aetiologies of CKD, DM and hypertension, and many other predisposing factors, are more frequent in the Eastern region, resulting in more prevalent CKD Stages 3-5.

Vasodilation of rat skeletal muscle arteries by the novel BK channel opener GoSlo is mediated by the simultaneous activation of BK and K 7 channels.

Br J Pharmacol

March 2020

Centre for Biomedicine and Medical Technology Mannheim (CBTM), Research Division Cardiovascular Physiology, Medical Faculty Mannheim, Heidelberg University, Mannheim, Germany.

Background And Purpose: BK channels play important roles in various physiological and pathophysiological processes and thus have been the target of several drug development programmes focused on creating new efficacious BK channel openers, such as the GoSlo-SR compounds. However, the effect of GoSlo-SR compounds on vascular smooth muscle has not been studied. Therefore, we tested the hypothesis that GoSlo-SR compounds dilate arteries exclusively by activating BK channels.

Necrolytic Migratory Erythema: Complete Healing after Surgical Removal of Pancreatic Carcinoma.

Acta Dermatovenerol Croat

December 2018

Professor Marija V'lckova-Laskoska, MD, PhD, Department of Dermatology , University Hospitals and Clinics, University of Sts. Cyril and Methodius Vodnjanska 17, 1000 Skopje, Macedonia;

Necrolytic migratory erythema is considered an obligatory cutaneous paraneoplastic sign associated with glucagonoma. Glucagonoma syndrome is defined by the presence of an alpha-cell secreting tumor of the pancreas, elevated levels of glucagon, and a characteristic rash called necrolytic migratory erythema. Although necrolytic migratory erythema is a specific finding in glucagonoma syndrome, it may occur in other settings, unassociated with an alpha-cell pancreatic tumor (pseudoglucagonoma syndrome).

We have previously established that mitochondrial Complex I (CI) mutants of Candida albicans display reduced oxygen consumption, decreased ATP production, and increased reactive oxidant species (ROS) during cell growth. Using the Seahorse XF96 analyzer, the energetic phenotypes of Electron Transport Chain (ETC) complex mutants are further characterized in the current study. The underlying regulation of energetic changes in these mutants is determined in glucose and non-glucose conditions when compared to wild type (WT) cells.

This study presents the spatial distribution of 37 elements in 48 moss samples collected over the whole territory of Albania and provides information on sources and factors controlling the concentrations of elements in the moss. High variations of trace metals indicate that the concentrations of elements are affected by different factors. Relations between the elements in moss, geochemical interpretation of the data, and secondary effects such as redox conditions generated from local soil and/or long distance atmospheric transport of the pollutants are discussed.

Background: It has been shown that hepcidin and YKL-40 levels change in persons with insulin resistance in different circumstances. However, variations of the levels of these parameters through the stages of prediabetes and type 2 diabetes mellitus are unclear. We hypothesized that hepcidin levels will decrease in persons with prediabetes, while these levels will tend to correct when persons with diabetes are treated with insulin.

The relationship between iron and glucose metabolism has been evidenced strongly, but the molecular mediation of this connection is just being revealed. The discovery of hepcidin as the prime controller of iron metabolism has paved the way for understanding the main actors behind this mediation. Recent data suggest that insulin therapy and probably other diabetes drugs can influence hepcidin production, thus influencing the iron load in cells.

Leibniz-Institut für Photonische Technologien e.V., Albert-Einstein-Straße 9, D-07745 Jena, Germany; Institut für Physikalische Chemie und Abbe Center of Photonics, Helmholtzweg 4, D-07743 Jena, Germany.

Dispersion analysis is applicable to arbitrarily cut monoclinic crystals of unknown orientation in order to find the symmetry axis. By this it is possible to differentiate between the transition moments oriented parallel and normal to the b-axis and to determine the dielectric tensor functions of those two principal directions. Dispersion analysis of arbitrarily cut monoclinic crystals is based on an extension of the evaluation scheme developed for arbitrarily cut orthorhombic crystals.
