Bio-electrochemical Systems (BES), particularly Microbial Fuel Cells (MFC), have emerged as promising technologies in environmental biotechnology. This study focused on optimizing the anode bacterial culture immobilization process to enhance BES performance. The investigation combines and modifies two key immobilization methods: covalent bonding with glutaraldehyde and inclusion in a chitosan gel in order to meet the criteria and requirements of the bio-anodes in MFC.

Psychosis, marked by the emergence of psychotic symptoms, delves into the intricate dance of neurotransmitter dynamics, prominently featuring dopamine as a key orchestrator. In individuals living with psychotic conditions, the finely tuned balance of dopamine becomes disrupted, setting off a cascade of perceptual distortions and the manifestation of psychotic symptoms. A lot of factors can impact dopamine metabolism, further complicating its effects.

Unlabelled: Schizophrenia is traditionally associated with the presence of psychotic symptoms. In addition to these, cognitive symptoms precede them and are present during the entire course of the schizophrenia process. The present study aims to establish the relationship between working memory (short-term memory and attention), the features of the clinical picture, and the course of the schizophrenic process, gender distribution and resistance to treatment.

Introduction: Pancreatic β-cells and α-cells have been found in the murine extrahepatic biliary ducts but not in the gallbladder. However, there has been no information reported in the specialized literature about the presence of glucagon- and insulin-expressing endocrine cells in porcine bile ducts and gallbladder.
Aim: We aimed to perform an immunohistochemical study to identify glucagon- and insulin-positive cells and their distribution in the porcine extrahepatic biliary ducts and gallbladder.

Radiofrequency echographic multi-spectrometry (REMS) is an ultrasound technique that has been recently introduced in the medical field to detect osteoporosis and fracture risk at axial sites. The use of sonography to visualize the region of interest (ROI) of the hip neck provides the opportunity to identify occult fractures. A 91-year-old woman with persistent right leg pain was referred to rheumatologist due to a known history of arthritis and osteoporosis.

: Unstable proximal humerus fractures (PHFs) with metaphyseal defects-weakening the osteosynthesis construct-are challenging to treat. A new augmentation technique of plated complex PHFs with metaphyseal defects was recently introduced in the clinical practice. This biomechanical study aimed to analyze the stability of plated unstable PHFs augmented via implementation of this technique versus no augmentation.

Background: Schizophrenia is a chronic mental disorder with a many-faced clinical presentation. Obsessive-compulsive symptoms are often part of it. The characteristics of the clinical picture and the course of schizophrenia are factors related to both the resistance and the manifestation of obsessive-compulsive symptoms.

This research communication describes the application of a fluorescent automatic cell counter Lactoscan SCC for simultaneous determination of somatic cell count and neutrophils in bovine milk. The obtained results were compared with results obtained by a flow cytometer and a light microscope. The Pearson correlations between the methods were calculated.

Background: Biological microcalorimetry has entered into a phase where its potential for disease diagnostics is readily recognized. A wide variety of oncological and immunological disorders have been characterized by differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and characteristic thermodynamic profiles were reported. Now the challenge before DSC is not the experimental data collection but the development of analysis protocols for reliable data stratification/classification and discrimination of disease specific features (calorimetric markers).
