Antithrombotic therapies (ATT) play a pivotal role in the management of cardiovascular diseases, aiming to prevent ischemic events while maintaining a delicate balance with the patient's bleeding risk. Typically, ATT can be classified into antiplatelet and anticoagulant therapies. Their application spans a broad spectrum of cardiovascular conditions, ranging from ischemic heart disease to atrial fibrillation, encompassing venous thromboembolisms and innovative structural interventional cardiology procedures.

Infections from Helicobacter pylori (Hp) are endangering Public Health safety worldwide, due to the associated high risk of developing severe diseases, such as peptic ulcer, gastric cancer, diabetes, and cardiovascular diseases. Current therapies are becoming less effective due to the rise of (multi)drug-resistant phenotypes and an urgent need for new antibacterial agents with innovative mechanisms of action is pressing. Among the most promising pharmacological targets, Carbonic Anhydrases (EC: 4.

The eradication of Helicobacter pylori, the etiologic agent of gastric ulcer and adenocarcinoma, is a big concern in clinics due to the increasing drug resistance phenomena and the limited number of efficacious treatment options. The exploitation of the H. pylori carbonic anhydrases (HpCAs) as promising pharmacological targets has been validated by the antibacterial activity of previously reported CA inhibitors due to the role of these enzymes in the bacterium survival in the gastric mucosa.

Background: Chronic Low Back Pain (cLBP) poses a significant health challenge, leading to functional disability and reduced quality of life. Osteopathic Manipulative Treatment (OMT) is emerging as a therapeutic option for cLBP, but the brain mechanisms underlying its analgesic effect remain unclear.
Materials And Methods: Thirty cLBP patients were randomly exposed to either four weekly sessions of OMT (N=16) or Sham treatment (N=14).

Objective: Emotional faces are automatically processed in the human brain through a cortical route (conscious processing based on high spatial frequencies, HSF) and a subcortical route (subliminal processing based on low spatial frequencies, LSF). How each route contributes to emotional face recognition is still debated, and little is known about this process in aging.
Method: Here, 147 younger adults (YA) and 137 older adults (OA) were passively presented with neutral, happy, and angry faces, shown as (a) unfiltered, (b) filtered at LSF, and (c) hybrid (emotional LSF superimposed to the neutral HSF of the same face).

Peritoneal dialysis adoption and technique survival is affected by limitations related to peritoneal membrane longevity and metabolic alterations. Indeed, almost all peritoneal dialysis fluids exploit glucose as an osmotic agent that rapidly diffuses across the peritoneal membrane, potentially resulting in metabolic abnormalities such as hyperglycemia, hyperinsulinemia, obesity, and hyperlipidemia. Moreover, glucose-degradation products generated during heat sterilization, other than glucose itself, induce significant morphological and functional changes in the peritoneum leading to ultrafiltration failure.

The COVID-19 pandemic, with over 775 million cases and 7 million deaths by May 2024, has drastically impacted global public health and exacerbated existing healthcare inequalities. The swift development and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines have been critical in combating the virus, yet disparities in access to and administration of the vaccine have highlighted deep-seated inequities at global, regional, and national levels. Wealthier nations have benefited from early access to vaccines, while low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) have faced persistent shortages.

According to the main international guidelines, patients with obesity and psychiatric/psychological disorders who cannot be addressed to surgery are recommended to follow a nutritional approach and a psychological treatment. A total of 94 patients (T0) completed a battery of self-report measures: Symptom Checklist-90-Revised (SCL-90-R), Barratt Impulsiveness Scale-11 (BIS-11), Binge-Eating Scale (BES), Obesity-Related Well-Being Questionnaire-97 (ORWELL-97), and Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory-2 (MMPI-2). Then, twelve sessions of a brief psychodynamic psychotherapy were delivered, which was followed by the participants completing the follow-up evaluation (T1).

(1) Background: The study of the microbiome is crucial for its role in major systemic diseases, in particular the oral and gut microbiota. In recent years, the study of microorganisms correlated, for example, with neurodegenerative disease has increased the prospect of a possible link between gut microbiota and the brain. Here, we report a new case concerning a patient who was initially evaluated genetically for dementia and late-onset dyskinesia, and later tested with 16S metagenomics sequencing.

The management of end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) has been constantly evolving over the last decade with the development of targeted approaches. In this field, telemedicine and remote monitoring are based on the availability of new cyclers that allow for bidirectional communication (between patient and physician) and for the application of the Sharesource cloud-based platform. These technologies allow patients with ESKD to undergo automated peritoneal dialysis (APD) at home.

Background: The evaluation of midpalatal suture maturation is essential to undertake the most predictable maxillary expansion approach. Several factors, such as age, gender, and facial growth patterns, seem to be involved in midpalatal suture staging and, consequently, in its opening; however, the link between these variables and the stages of midpalatal suture development remains poorly understood. Our study aimed to analyse the midpalatal suture maturation in relation to age, sex, and skeletal growth patterns by CBCT.

Accuracy in the evaluation of death-induced tissue degradation for thanato-chronological purposes is strictly dependent on the condition of the biological source as well as on the precision of post-mortem interval (PMI) estimation. Thus, the optimization of tissue handling and identification of sensitive post-mortem biomarkers could help establish a timeline for post-mortem events. To this aim, we investigated the proteome changes in cortex samples of 6-week-old female SAMR1 mice over a post-mortem time course.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a global health issue causing a significant health burden. CKD patients develop thrombotic and hemorrhagic complications, and cardiovascular diseases are associated with increased hospitalization and mortality in this population. The hemostatic alterations are multifactorial in these patients; therefore, the results of different studies are varying and controversial.

In the tumor microenvironment (TME), ROS production affects survival, progression, and therapy resistance in colorectal cancer (CRC). HO-mediated oxidative stress can modulate Wnt/β-catenin signaling and metabolic reprogramming of the TME. Currently, it is unclear how mild/moderate oxidative stress (eustress) modulates Wnt/β-catenin/APC and JNK signaling relationships in primary and metastatic CRC cells.

Androgen insensitivity syndrome (AIS) is one of the most common Disorders of Sexual Differentiation (DSDs). AIS is characterized by an X-linked recessive inheritance pattern associated with variants in the androgen receptor (AR) gene that affects the masculinization process in individuals with XY karyotype. Here, we report a neonatal case of a very early diagnosis of complete AIS due to a novel variant in the AR gene.

Event-related optical signals (EROS) measure fast modulations in the brain's optical properties related to neuronal activity. EROS offer a high spatial and temporal resolution and can be used for brain-computer interface (BCI) applications. However, the ability to classify single-trial EROS remains unexplored.

Motor impairment is a common issue in stroke patients, often affecting the upper limbs. To this standpoint, robotic neurorehabilitation has shown to be highly effective for motor function recovery. Notably, Machine learning (ML) may be a powerful technique able to identify the optimal kind and intensity of rehabilitation treatments to maximize the outcomes.
