Objectives: We present two clinical cases of association between symptomatic free-floating thrombus (FFT) in thoracic aorta and rheumatoid arthritis (RA).
Methods: In the first patient, we observed a recent onset of peripheral and visceral signs of embolization: after a first treatment with anticoagulation, our Aortic team scheduled the coverage of FFT (sited in zone 1 of the aortic arch) with an anatomical debranching of anonymous trunk and left carotid artery, a left carotid-subclavian bypass, and a TEVAR of the aortic arch with proximal landing in zone 0 of the arch. The second case was characterized by chest pain, left upper limb ischemia, and CTA evidence of an FFT in zone 3 of the aortic arch; we planned a chimney-TEVAR on the left subclavian artery and descending thoracic aorta (with proximal landing in zone 2 of the aortic arch) to exclude the FFT.

With the recent introduction of a number of highly effective disease-modifying treatments (DMTs) and the resulting almost complete prevention of acute relapses in many patients with multiple sclerosis (MS), the interest of MS clinicians has gradually shifted from relapse prevention to counteraction of disease progression and the treatment of residual symptoms. Targeting the cannabinoid system with nabiximols is an approved and effective strategy for the treatment of spasticity secondary to MS. Recently, the concept of spasticity plus syndrome (SPS) was introduced to account for the evidence that spasticity often appears in MS patients in clusters with other symptoms (such as pain, bladder dysfunction, sleep, and mood disorders), where cannabinoids can also be effective due to their broader action on many immune and neuronal functions.

Despite recent advances, pharmacological treatments of diabetic retinopathy (DR) do not directly address the underlying oxidative stress. This study evaluates the efficacy of a nutraceutical formulation based on maltodextrinated grape pomace extract (MaGPE), an oxidative stress inhibitor, in managing DR. A 6-month, randomized, placebo-controlled clinical trial involving 99 patients with mild to moderate non-proliferative DR was conducted.

Gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) have been synthesized directly inside liposomes using honey as a reducing agent. The obtained aggregates, named Cassyopea Gold due to the method used for their preparation, show remarkable properties as reactors and carriers of the investigated AuNPs. A mean size of about 150 nm and negative surface charge of -46 mV were measured for Cassyopea Gold through dynamic light scattering and zeta potential measurements, respectively.

The increasing concern over environmental sustainability has prompted various industries to reassess their practices and explore greener alternatives. Dentistry, as a significant contributor to waste generation, is actively seeking methods to minimize its environmental footprint. This paper examines the environmental implications of clear aligner therapy (CAT) in orthodontics and explores strategies to prioritize sustainability in aligner manufacturing and usage.

: Periodontitis is associated with increased oxidative stress, which may impair treatment outcomes. Ozone therapy has shown promise in reducing oxidative stress and improving periodontal health. This study examined the impact of adjunctive gaseous ozone administration on salivary oxidative stress markers in patients with periodontitis stages II-IV and grades A-C undergoing non-surgical periodontal treatment (NSPT).

Uterine cancer is the most common gynecologic malignancy in the United States, with endometrioid endometrial adenocarcinoma (EC) being the most common histologic sub-type. Considering the molecular classifications of EC, efforts have been made to identify additional biomarkers that can assist in diagnosis, prognosis, and individualized therapy. We sought to explore the relationship of Repressor Element 1 (RE1) silencing transcription factor (REST), which downregulates neuronal genes in non-neuronal tissue, along with matrix metalloproteinase-24 (MMP24) and EC.

The high mortality in the global population due to chronic diseases highlights the urgency to identify effective alternative therapies. Regenerative medicine provides promising new approaches for this purpose, particularly in the use of induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). The aim of the work is to establish a new pluripotency cell line obtained for the first time by reprogramming human gingival mesenchymal stem cells (hGMSCs) by a non-integrating method.

Micro- and nano-plastics (MNPLs) can move along the food chain to higher-level organisms including humans. Three significant routes for MNPLs have been reported: ingestion, inhalation, and dermal contact. Accumulating evidence supports the intestinal toxicity of ingested MNPLs and their role as drivers for increased incidence of colorectal cancer (CRC) in high-risk populations such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) patients.

Background: Catheter-related thrombosis (CRT) is one of the major complications affecting patients with indwelling venous catheters, usually involving the upper extremity deep venous system. This condition can lead to potentially life-threatening complications such as pulmonary embolism and sepsis. The risk of developing CRT varies depending on type of catheters and patient characteristics.

Many lateral biases exist in human behavior, often implicit and not deliberated. Romantic kissing and embracing received experimental attention in the last three decades. We investigated laterality in paintings depicting these social interactions using two methodologies to assess whether painters depicted such biases and whether these biases could be due to observers' aesthetic preferences or painters' ability in portraying naturalistic interactions.

The assessment of athletic performance using non-invasive methods has been a significant focus in research aimed at measuring physiological parameters. This study explores the application of bioelectrical impedance vector analysis (BIVA) among track and field athletes, with a focus on sex differences, electrode configuration, and the correlation between BIVA parameters and jump performances. This cross-sectional study involved 61 Italian track and field athletes: 31 females and 30 males (age: 21.

Prostate cancer (PC) is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths in men worldwide. Interleukin-30 (IL-30) is a PC progression driver, and its suppression would be strategic for fighting metastatic disease. Biocompatible lipid nanoparticles (NPs) were loaded with CRISPR-Cas9gRNA to delete the human IL30 (hIL30) gene and functionalized with anti-PSCA-Abs (Cas9hIL30-PSCA NPs).

The prevalence of chronic kidney disease (CKD) continues to rise globally, paralleled by an increase in associated morbidity and mortality, as well as significant implications for patient quality of life and national economies. Chronic kidney disease often progresses unrecognized by patients and physicians, despite diagnosis relying on two simple laboratory measures: estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) and urine analysis. GFR measurement has been grounded in renal physiology, specifically the concept of clearance, with creatinine identified as a suitable endogenous marker for estimating creatinine clearance (CrCl).

Prostate cancer (PC) is an age-related disease and represents, after lung cancer, the second cause of cancer death in males worldwide. Mortality is due to the metastatic disease, which mainly involves the bones, lungs, and liver. In the last 20 years, the incidence of metastatic PC has increased in Western Countries, and a further increase is expected in the near future, due to the population ageing.

The development of selective and nontoxic immunotherapy targeting prostate cancer (PC) is challenging. Interleukin (IL)30 plays immunoinhibitory and oncogenic roles in PC, and its tumor-specific suppression may have significant clinical implications. CRISPR/Cas9-mediated IL30 gene deletion in PC xenografts using anti-PSCA antibody-driven lipid nanocomplexes (Cas9gRNA-hIL30-PSCA NxPs) revealed significant genome editing efficiency and circulation stability without off-target effects or organ toxicity.
