Background: The evaluation of midpalatal suture maturation is essential to undertake the most predictable maxillary expansion approach. Several factors, such as age, gender, and facial growth patterns, seem to be involved in midpalatal suture staging and, consequently, in its opening; however, the link between these variables and the stages of midpalatal suture development remains poorly understood. Our study aimed to analyse the midpalatal suture maturation in relation to age, sex, and skeletal growth patterns by CBCT.

Accuracy in the evaluation of death-induced tissue degradation for thanato-chronological purposes is strictly dependent on the condition of the biological source as well as on the precision of post-mortem interval (PMI) estimation. Thus, the optimization of tissue handling and identification of sensitive post-mortem biomarkers could help establish a timeline for post-mortem events. To this aim, we investigated the proteome changes in cortex samples of 6-week-old female SAMR1 mice over a post-mortem time course.

Motor impairment is a common issue in stroke patients, often affecting the upper limbs. To this standpoint, robotic neurorehabilitation has shown to be highly effective for motor function recovery. Notably, Machine learning (ML) may be a powerful technique able to identify the optimal kind and intensity of rehabilitation treatments to maximize the outcomes.

Introduction: Peritoneal ultrafiltration (PUF) has been proposed as an additional therapeutic option for refractory congestive heart failure (RCHF) patients. Despite promising observational studies and/or case report results, limited clinical trial data exist, and so far, PUF solutions remain only indicated for chronic kidney diseases. In this article, we described a multicenter, randomized, controlled, unblinded, adaptive design clinical trial, about to start, investigating the effects of PolyCore™, an innovative PUF solution, in the treatment of RCHF patients.

In gastrointestinal (GI) diseases, lipopolysaccharide (LPS) exacerbates gut-barrier dysfunction and inflammation. Cinnamoyl derivatives show potential in mitigating LPS-induced inflammation. We assessed intestinal epithelial barrier function using -epithelial electrical resistance values and measured inflammatory mediators through real-time PCR and ELISA in Caco-2 cells.

The Janus kinase 3 (JAK3) family, particularly JAK3, is pivotal in initiating autoimmune diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis. Recent advancements have focused on developing antirheumatic drugs targeting JAK3, leading to the discovery of novel pyrazolopyrimidine-based compounds as potential inhibitors. This research employed covalent docking, ADMET (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, Toxicity) analysis, molecular dynamics modeling, and MM/GBSA (Molecular Mechanics Generalized Born Surface Area) binding free energy techniques to screen 41 in silico-designed pyrazolopyrimidine derivatives.

Purpose: ReLEx (Refractive Lenticule Extraction) Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE), the second generation of ReLEx Femtosecond Lenticule Extraction (FLEx), is a minimally invasive, flapless procedure designed to treat refractive errors such as myopia, hyperopia, presbyopia, and astigmatism. This review aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the methods for preserving SMILE-derived lenticules and discusses their potential future applications.
Methods: A narrative literature review was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science databases, focusing on articles published up to January 2024 and available in English.

VOCs (Volatile organic compounds) exert a vital role in ozone and secondary organic aerosol production, necessitating investigations into their concentration, chemical characteristics, and source apportionment for the effective implementation of measures aimed at preventing and controlling atmospheric pollution. From July to October 2020, online monitoring was conducted in the main urban area of Shijiazhuang to collect data on VOCs and analyze their concentrations and reactivity. Additionally, the PMF (positive matrix factorization) method was utilized to identify the VOCs sources.

Background: Pediatric-onset Multiple Sclerosis (POMS) patients show more inflammatory disease compared with adult-onset MS. However, highly effective treatments are limited with only fingolimod being approved in Italy and natalizumab prescribed as off-label treatment.
Objectives: to compare the efficacy of natalizumab versus fingolimod in POMS.

Introduction: Mother-infant attunement is fundamental to supporting infant socio-emotional development. Based on the assumption that we connect better with others if we are aware of and connected with our own experience, mindfulness could affect the maternal ability to attune to the infant. However, little is known about this topic in the first year of life.

Objectives: The study aimed to investigate the relationship between raw bioelectrical data and physical performance in track and field athletes. Specifically, the objectives were to determine: 1) whether a regional bioelectrical impedance approach provides additional insights compared to whole-body analysis, 2) the reliability of the Levi Muscle Index (LMI) in this context, and 3) whether there are differences in these relationships between male and female athletes.
Design: This study utilized a cross-sectional design involving thirty-one female athletes (mean age 21.

Aims: To profile the characteristics of nurses with varying levels of vaccine hesitancy toward the COVID-19 and influenza vaccines.
Background: In many countries across the world, healthcare workers, and nurses in particular, display significant reluctance toward COVID-19 and influenza vaccines due to concerns about safety, distrust in healthcare policies, and media influences. To address this, a proposed approach involves profiling nurses to tailor vaccination campaigns and to improve acceptance rates and public health outcomes.

Context: The utility of thyroglobulin (Tg) in the follow-up of differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) patients has been well-documented. Although third-generation immunoassays have improved accuracy, limitations persist (interfering anti-Tg antibodies and measurement variability). Evolving treatment strategies require a reevaluation of Tg thresholds for optimal patient management.

This study addresses the widespread use of UV filters (UVFs) in cosmetic and solar products due to the negative effects of UV radiation, particularly in relation to melanoma risk. While these filters offer protection, their extensive application raises concerns about their environmental and health impacts. Organic UVFs, in particular, have been associated with endocrine disruption in aquatic species and coral reef damage.

MYC is one of the most important therapeutic targets in human cancer. Many attempts have been made to develop small molecules that could be used to curb its activity in patients, but most failed to identify a suitable direct inhibitor. After years of preclinical characterization, a tissue-penetrating peptide MYC inhibitor, called Omomyc, has been recently successfully used in a Phase I dose escalation study in late-stage, all-comers solid tumour patients.
