The sorption properties of zeolites are controlled by several factors, i.e. Si/Al ratio of the aluminosilicate framework [AlSiO], the type and position of the extraframework (EF) cations, and the applied temperature.

Quality assessment in healthcare systems is challenging due to the multidimensional nature of healthcare services. This study evaluates the overall quality provided by hospitals using composite indicators under the Benefit of the Doubt (BoD) approach, which determines the weights of the indicators with minimal assumptions. We used data from 2015-2020 for Italian Local Health Authorities (LHAs) for 21 outcome measures, applying various non-parametric methods to address aggregation and weighting challenges.

Study Question: What are the implications of the presence cytoplasmic strings (Cyt-S) and their quantity and dynamics for the pre-implantation development of human blastocysts?
Summary Answer: Cyt-S are common in human embryos and are associated with faster blastocyst development, larger expansion, and better morphological quality.
What Is Known Already: Cyt-S are dynamic cellular projections connecting inner cell mass and trophectoderm (TE) cells, that can be observed during blastocyst expansion. Their prevalence in human embryos has been estimated to be between 44% and 93%.

Gastric cancer (GC), the third leading cause of cancer-related death globally, is complex and heterogeneous. This review explores multidisciplinary investigations of traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) combined with Western medical practices, emphasizing the development of nutraceuticals for cancer prevention. Using advanced analytical chemistry and food chemistry techniques, this study investigated how TCM components may be optimized for nutraceutical development.

Controlled manufacturing and long-term stability are key challenges in the development and translation of nanomedicines. This is exemplified by the mRNA-nanoparticle vaccines against COVID-19, which require (ultra-)cold temperatures for storage and shipment. Various cryogenic protocols have been explored to prolong nanomedicine shelf-life.

Practicing physical activities or sports that involve frequent jumping and landing can strain the muscles and joints of the lower limbs, especially in those who do not have adequate physical preparation. The objective of this study was to (a) determine the correlation between ankle range of motion (ROM) and landing stability following jumps; (b) assess the association between the jump height in a counter-movement jump (CMJ) test and ankle ROM; and (c) examine the connection between stabilometry during specific jumps movements present in many sports and in ankle stabilization. Sixty-two healthy amateur volleyball players participated in the study (age: thirty-seven females and twenty-five males; age (years): 16.

The growth of (multi)drug resistance in bacteria is among the most urgent global health issues. Monocationic amphiphilic α-hydrazido acid derivatives are structurally simple mimics of antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) with fewer drawbacks. Their mechanism of membrane permeabilization at subtoxic concentrations was found to begin with an initial electrostatic attraction of isolated amphiphile molecules to the phospholipid heads, followed by a rapid insertion of the apolar portions.

The main purpose of this longitudinal study was to investigate football players' recovery status, through hormonal response, in relation to accumulated workload at two comparable time points of the first (T1) and second half (T2) of the competitive season. Moreover, this study investigated athletes' hormonal response to a typical weekly conditioning session (5 days before match: MD-5), at T1 and T2, to detect changes in players' recovery capability over time. Salivary cortisol (sC) and testosterone (sT) of 24 professional players (27.

Mitochondria functionally degrade as neurons age. Degenerative changes cause inefficient oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) and elevated electron leakage from the electron transport chain (ETC) promoting increased intramitochondrial generation of damaging reactive oxygen and reactive nitrogen species (ROS and RNS). The associated progressive accumulation of molecular damage causes an increasingly rapid decline in mitochondrial physiology contributing to aging.

Microbiologically Influenced Corrosion (MIC) is one of the main threats for marine infrastructures, leading to severe safety and environmental risks associated with structural failures and/or leakages of dangerous fluids, together with potential huge economic losses and reputational damage for the involved parts. For a safe design and a proper installation of infrastructure systems in contact with the seabed, a deep knowledge of the site-specific microbial community of the sediments should be beneficial. Therefore, in addition to the simple detection or the sole quantification of Sulphate-Reducing Bacteria (SRB), the whole characterization of the microbial members involved in MIC phenomena is desirable.

Recent investigations have highlighted, both experimentally and clinically, that probiotic strains equipped with arabinofuranosidase, in particular and , favor regular intestinal motility, thus counteracting constipation. By analyzing the gene expression and the proliferative response in the presence of arabinan of the probiotic W11, a strain previously validated as an anti-constipation probiotic, we have speculated that its response mechanism to arabinan can effectively explain its clinical action. Our approach could be used in the future to select probiotics endowed with arabinofuranosidase-related anti-constipation effects.

(1) Multiple sclerosis (MS) is identified by a complex interaction between central inflammation and neurodegeneration. Genetic individual variability could play a significative role in clinical presentation. The interleukin-5 (IL-5) rs2069812 single-nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) seems to define the clinical course of Th2 autoimmune diseases, while its role in MS has never been investigated.

Identifying the patients who are likely to be non-responders to a certain treatment may allow clinicians to provide alternative strategies and avoid frustration and unrealistic expectations for the patients and their families. A retrospective study on 145 children treated with visual hemisphere-specific stimulation examined the specific profiles (reading, writing, metaphonology, memory, callosal functions) of non-responders, and identified predictors of response to intervention (reading, reading and writing) through linear regression models. The effects of additional variables such as rapid automatized naming (RAN) and Visual Search were investigated in a subsample of 48 participants.

Introduction: Several developmental changes occur in adolescence, particularly in the metarepresentational domain, which allows and promotes adaptive sociality. We explored the possible relationships between theory of mind (ToM) and definitional competence, both metarepresentational, beyond age and gender effects.
Methods: To reach our goals, we involved 75 adolescents (age range 14-19 years, = 15.

Background: Prematurity is the strongest predictor of bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD). Most previous studies investigated additional risk factors by conventional statistics, while the few studies applying artificial intelligence, and specifically machine learning (ML), for this purpose were mainly targeted to the predictive ability of specific interventions. This study aimed to apply ML to identify, among routinely collected data, variables predictive of BPD, and to compare these variables with those identified through conventional statistics.

The influence of biological maturity status on talent identification and development in youth soccer has been debated extensively. Alternative methods have thus recently emerged to estimate maturity status, such as the Pubertal Development Scale (PDS), but their relationship with physical capabilities of young soccer players still needs to be determined. The present study investigated the relationships of different PDS-derived pubertal status measures, chronological age, and relative age with selected performance variables in youth soccer.

According to the principle of Locard "Every contact leaves a trace", when touching a surface, a bi-directional transfer of self and non-self-DNA residing on the hands and touched objects can occur. Metals are commonly encountered in forensic evidence and, during hand contact with these surfaces, a transfer of metal particles could occur together with the transfer of human DNA. This study proposes a proof-concept approach for the original detection of metal particles and touch DNA to track the activity performed by a donor and particularly to assess the metallic substrate touched before the contact with a subsequent surface.
