Introduction: Patients with hematological malignancies (HMs), like chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL), multiple myeloma (MM), and non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), have a high risk of secondary immunodeficiency (SID), SID-related infections, and mortality. Here, we report the results of a systematic literature review on the potential association of various cancer regimens with infection rates, neutropenia, lymphocytopenia, or hypogammaglobulinemia, indicative of SID.
Methods: A systematic literature search was performed in 03/2022 using PubMed to search for clinical trials that mentioned in the title and/or abstract selected cancer (CLL, MM, or NHL) treatments covering 12 classes of drugs, including B-lineage monoclonal antibodies, CAR T therapies, proteasome inhibitors, kinase inhibitors, immunomodulators, antimetabolites, anti-tumor antibiotics, alkylating agents, Bcl-2 antagonists, histone deacetylase inhibitors, vinca alkaloids, and selective inhibitors of nuclear export.

Background: To assign a course of secondary progressive multiple sclerosis (MS) (SPMS) may be difficult and the proportion of persons with SPMS varies between reports. An objective method for disease course classification may give a better estimation of the relative proportions of relapsing-remitting MS (RRMS) and SPMS and may identify situations where SPMS is under reported.
Materials And Methods: Data were obtained for 61,900 MS patients from MS registries in the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Sweden, and the United Kingdom (UK), including date of birth, sex, SP conversion year, visits with an Expanded Disability Status Scale (EDSS) score, MS onset and diagnosis date, relapses, and disease-modifying treatment (DMT) use.

The glomerular endothelial glycocalyx (GEnGlx) forms the first part of the glomerular filtration barrier. Previously, we showed that mineralocorticoid receptor (MR) activation caused GEnGlx damage and albuminuria. In this study, we investigated whether MR antagonism could limit albuminuria in diabetes and studied the site of action.

GluN2B subunit-containing -methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptors have been implicated in various neurological disorders. Nonetheless, a validated fluorine-18 labeled positron emission tomography (PET) ligand for GluN2B imaging in the living human brain is currently lacking. As part of our PET ligand development program, we have recently reported on the preclinical evaluation of [F]OF-NB1 - a GluN2B PET ligand with promising attributes for potential clinical translation.

Breast cancer has become a leading cause of death for women as the economy has grown and the number of women in the labor force has increased. Several biomarkers with diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic implications for breast cancer have been identified in studies, leading to therapeutic advances. Resistance, on the other hand, is one of clinical practice's limitations.

Recent investigations have improved our understanding of the molecular aberrations supporting Waldenström macroglobulinemia (WM) biology; however, whether the immune microenvironment contributes to WM pathogenesis remains unanswered. First, we showed how a transgenic murine model of human-like lymphoplasmacytic lymphoma/WM exhibits an increased number of regulatory T cells (Tregs) relative to control mice. These findings were translated into the WM clinical setting, in which the transcriptomic profiling of Tregs derived from patients with WM unveiled a peculiar WM-devoted messenger RNA signature, with significant enrichment for genes related to nuclear factor κB-mediated tumor necrosis factor α signaling, MAPK, and PI3K/AKT, which was paralleled by a different Treg functional phenotype.

Human norovirus is the first cause of foodborne disease worldwide, leading to extensive outbreaks of acute gastroenteritis, and causing around 200,000 children to die annually in developing countries. No specific vaccines or antiviral agents are currently available, with therapeutic options limited to supportive care to prevent dehydration. The infection can become severe and lead to life-threatening complications in young children, the elderly and immunocompromised individuals, leading to a clear need for antiviral agents, to be used as treatments and as prophylactic measures in case of outbreaks.

The diagnosis of mediastinal masses is challenging due to the variety of possiblepathologies , and its definitive diagnosis is mainly confirmed by histological evaluation. Sometimes some lesions may have a greater intravascular rather than mediastinal development and the collection of a biopsy sample becomes even more complex. In these cases endovascular catheter biopsy is helpful in the collection of the necessary biological material, having to adapt to the type of surface and consistency of the mass to be analyzed.

Background And Objectives: In Italy, approximately 650 individuals receive a diagnosis of primary progressive aphasia (PPA) every year. Unfortunately, the frequency with which patients are referred to speech-language services is suboptimal, likely due to skepticism regarding the value of speech-language therapy in the context of neurodegeneration.
Materials And Methods: We conducted a virtual survey of speech and language therapists (SLTs) across Italy, to collect information about the assessment, intervention and management of patients with PPA.

Pituitary stalk hemangioblastomas (PSHBLs) are rare vascular tumors and their surgical removal is challenging due to the proximity with several fundamental anatomic structures including the pituitary stalk, third ventricle, hypothalamus, and optic pathways. To date, only few descriptions of transcranial and transsphenoidal approaches for PSHBLs have been reported in the literature and none in video, with suboptimal outcomes in terms of pituitary function preservation. Here, we describe the use of orbitozygomatic (OZ) craniotomy with extradural anterior clinoidectomy (EAC) for the removal of a PSHBL with preservation of the pituitary stalk.

Objective: In the frame of the Uric Acid Right for Heart Health (URRAH) study, a nationwide multicenter study involving adult participants recruited on a regional community basis from all the territory of Italy under the patronage of the Working Group on Uric Acid and Cardiovascular Risk of the Italian Society of Hypertension, we searched for the cut-off values of the ratio between serum uric acid (SUA) and serum creatinine (sCr) able to predict cardiovascular (CV) events.
Methods: Among 20 724 participants followed-up for 126 ± 64 months, after detecting cut-off by the receiver operating characteristic curves, we calculated by Cox models adjusted for confounders having CV events as dependent variable the hazard ratio (HR) of SUA/sCr > cut-off. We also verified if the role of cut-off varied with increasing SUA/sCr.

(1) Background: One possible way to investigate the potential impact or susceptibility of buckling on different manual techniques is to measure compressive loads during canal negotiation. The higher their values, the easier and quicker the critical load level to buckling is reached, leading to possible instrument lateral deformation. The objective of the present study was to investigate the impacts of compressive loads on a small K-file manipulated with different techniques for canal negotiation in simulated narrow and curved canals.
