Ferroptosis, as an iron-dependent cell death mediated by lipid peroxidation, has sparked great interest in the tumor research community. Targeting ferroptosis has been proven to be a new therapeutic opportunity for inhibiting tumor growth. However, it is challenging to precisely characterize the metabolic pattern of ferroptosis in heterogeneous tumors and further identify ferroptosis-associated metabolic vulnerabilities for tumor treatment.

Hypochlorous acid (HClO), as an important reactive oxygen species (ROS), plays a crucial role in our daily life and in biological systems, and its convenient and accurate detection is significant and imperative. In this work, a self-calibrated multimode optical sensor for convenient and accurate HClO detection was elaborately fabricated based on a multifunctional metal-organic framework platform with catalytic active metal nodes, fluorescent responsive bridging ligands, and intrinsic pores for functional molecule accommodation. The sensor shows not only turn-on and ratiometric fluorescence response but also color change in response to HClO.

Objectives: Sepsis-associated acute kidney injury (SA-AKI) is a significant clinical challenge with high morbidity and mortality. Low bioavailability of protopanaxadiol (PPD) limits its clinical application. In this study, PPD was encapsulated with chitooligosaccharide (COS) modified polylactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) to develop novel nanomedicines for the treatment of SA-AKI.

Recently, organic photoelectrochemical transistor (OPECT) has become a very interesting biological measurement method in photoelectrochemical (PEC) bioanalysis and future bio-related applications. OPECT is expected to be a powerful tool for disease detection and early warning. Circulating tumor cells (CTCs) are generally deemed to be the dominant factor of tumor metastasis, and 90 % of cancer patients die from this metastatic disease.

The occurrence of multiple primary cancers in individual patients underscores the need for diagnostic and therapeutic techniques with augmented cancer-targeting selectivity and broad-spectrum antitumor effects. To address this, we develop a quadruple-input-triggered R-ND-ND logic gated oncological nanosystem (OAA). This system employs four cancer-related markers (EpCAM, MUC1, APE1, and miR-21) to generate three distinct fluorescence signals, enabling precise differentiation of various cancer cell lines (MCF-7, HepG2, and HeLa) from normal cells (MCF-10A).

The hot plate test is widely used to evaluate analgesic effects on inflammatory pain in mice. A commonly used model of inflammatory pain was induced with an intraplantar injection of carrageenan in one hind paw. However, the findings from our laboratory showed that mice with a single-hind-paw injection of carrageenan lifted their paws to avoid thermal nociception during the hot plate test.

Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) exhibit significant potential for water disinfection due to their generation of large quantities of highly oxidizing free radicals. However, the neglect of viable but nonculturable (VBNC) cells obscures their true disinfection efficacy and potential environmental health risks. Therefore, the study evaluated the disinfection effectiveness and mechanisms of typical AOPs, including Fe/HO, Fe/persulfate (PS), and O, from the perspective of the production of VBNC bacteria.

The property of organic materials can be regulated by a facile carbonization way. In-situ growth of covalent organic framework on silica (SiO@COF) was achieved by room temperature synthesis, then SiO@COF was carbonized to get another material, called SiO@C-COF. The materials were characterized by SEM, BET, XPS, contact angle test and element analysis.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries (AZIBs) have emerged as promising energy storage systems due to their inherent safety and high capacity, with manganese oxides attracting attention for their cost-effectiveness and environmental compatibility. However, the poor cycling stability of manganese-based oxides, primarily due to Jahn-Teller distortions caused by Mn, limits their practical applications. Herein, a high valence MnO (H-MnO) material was prepared a simple secondary hydrothermal method, yielding an increased average manganese valence from 3.

Controlling organ size in plants is a complex biological process influenced by various factors, including gene expression, genome ploidy and environmental conditions. Despite its importance for plant growth and development, the mechanisms underlying organ size regulation remain unknown. Here, we investigated the role of RAN1, a member of the Ras-related nuclear GTPase family, in regulating pollen size.

Molecular glue degraders (MGDs) are proximity-inducing agents that mediate the cooperative interaction between a target protein and an E3 ligase, introducing an additional layer of specificity beyond that afforded by traditional small molecules. Historically, molecular glues that stabilize protein-protein interactions were often discovered serendipitously. In this study, we leveraged the reprogramming potential of cereblon (CRBN)-based ligands and conducted a CRBN-dependent proliferation screen to identify CRBN-based MGDs capable of inducing the degradation of proteins essential for cell viability.

α-Heteroatom-substituted amides are useful as both targets and intermediates but are challenging to synthesize via conventional enolate chemistry. Herein, we describe a general and unified umpolung procedure to prepare α-heteroatom-functionalized secondary amides with various heteroatom-based nucleophiles under redox-neutral conditions. This transformation is a formal oxidation state reshuffle process from -N to -C in the hydroxamate, thereby achieving the umpolung α-heterofunctionalization of carbonyl groups without external oxidants.

Gastrodiae Rhizoma (GE), a popular food in China, is stored and consumed after steaming, which can lead to the degradation of active substances and a decrease in its quality. Therefore, this study explored the potential application of ultra-high-pressure (UHP)-assisted hot air drying in improving the quality of GE. The results indicated that UHP pre-treatment could preserve the original cross-sectional color of GE and increase the degrees of freedom of water in GE samples.

The choice of trap in entomological surveys affects the composition of captured insects, though previous comparative studies have been limited in the types of composition measured, and the effects of environmental context. We assessed the sampling bias of several traps commonly used in pollinator monitoring: blue, yellow, and white pan traps, and blue vane traps, towards different taxonomic and functional groups and their efficiency in measuring taxonomic, phylogenetic, and functional diversity. Analyses were performed in monoculture and mixed forests to understand the environmental context of trap efficiency.

Tumoral immune escape is an obstacle to successful cancer therapy. Tryptophan catabolism mediated by indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase (IDO1) is an important mechanism of peripheral immune tolerance contributing to tumoral immune resistance, and IDO1 inhibition is an active area of drug development. Several classes of small molecule-based IDO1 inhibitors have already been reported.
