Purpose: This study aimed to examine the trajectory in health-related quality of life (HRQoL) during and after hospitalisation for worsening of heart failure (HF) in Malaysia.
Methods: 200 patients with heart failure and reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF) admitted into two hospitals in Malaysia due to worsening of HF were surveyed using the EQ-5D-5 L questionnaire. The primary outcomes were utility values at admission, discharge and 1-month post-discharge (1MPD).

Betel quid chewing is a culturally significant practice among the indigenous people (Orang Asli) in Malaysia, but it poses serious health risks, including oral cancer and systemic diseases. Studies on betel quid chewing are limited, making it difficult to develop effective public health interventions. This study aimed to explore the cultural significance, perceived health effects, and misconceptions surrounding betel quid chewing among the indigenous people, assess their awareness of health risks, and explore factors influencing their intentions to quit or reduce betel quid chewing.

A solar photovoltaic (PV) cell, is an electrical device that uses the PV effect to convert light energy into electricity. The application of oyster mushroom dyes in dye sensitized solar cell (DSSC) is a novel strategy to substitute the costly chemical production process with easily extractable, environmentally acceptable dyes. Both dyes of yellow and pink oyster mushrooms were extracted using the same process but dried into powder form using two techniques, warm drying and freeze drying.

Background: The built environment can influence human health, but the available evidence is modest and almost entirely from urban communities in high-income countries. Here we aimed to analyse built environment characteristics and their associations with obesity in urban and rural communities in 21 countries at different development levels participating in the Prospective Urban and Rural Epidemiology (PURE) Study.
Methods: Photographs were acquired with a standardised approach.

This systematic review and meta-analysis appraised previous findings to uncover potential faecal intestinal permeability and intestinal inflammatory markers in older adults. A comprehensive literature search led to the identification of ten eligible studies with findings of potential faecal intestinal permeability (zonulin and alpha-1-antitrypsin) and intestinal inflammatory markers [calprotectin, lactoferrin and neutrophil gelatinase-associated lipocalin (NGAL)]. Most of the cases (n > 2) [Parkinson's disease (PD) and Alzheimer's disease (AD)] exhibited higher faecal alpha-1-antitrypsin, zonulin and calprotectin levels.

This systematic review appraised previous findings of non-pharmacological interventions on gut microbiota and/ or intestinal permeability in older adults. A literature search was performed using PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect and the Cochrane Library. Relevant studies were shortlisted based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and evaluated for risks of bias using the "Cochrane Collaboration's Risk of Bias 2" and the "NIH Quality Assessment Tool for Before-After (Pre-Post) Studies with No Control Group".

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is linked to various factors causing cardiovascular diseases, with uncontrolled postprandial hyperglycemia being a direct contributor. α-Glucosidase inhibitors (AGIs) aid in reducing postprandial hyperglycemia, potentially mitigating cardiovascular risks. In order to synthesize novel chemical scaffolds with possible α-glucosidase inhibition activity, a series of novel soritin sulfonamide derivatives were synthesized.

Background: Regional Wall Motion Abnormality (RWMA) serves as an early indicator of myocardial infarction (MI), the global leader in mortality. Accurate and early detection of RWMA is vital for the successful treatment of MI. Current automated echocardiography analyses typically concentrate on peak values from left ventricular (LV) displacement curves, based on LV contour annotations or key frames during the heart's systolic or diastolic phases within a single echocardiographic cycle.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB) is a pathogen that is known for its ability to persist in harsh environments and cause chronic infections. Understanding the regulatory networks of MTB is crucial for developing effective treatments. Small regulatory RNAs (sRNAs) play important roles in gene expression regulation in all kingdoms of life, and their classification based solely on genomic location can be imprecise due to the computational-based prediction of protein-coding genes in bacteria, which often neglects segments of mRNA such as 5'UTRs, 3'UTRs, and intercistronic regions of operons.

BACKGROUND Polycythemia vera (PV) is a myeloproliferative neoplasm (MPNs) marked by elevated hemoglobin and hematocrit, which can lead to thromboembolic events and progress to myelofibrosis or acute myeloid leukemia (AML). MPNs, including PV, are relatively rare in Malaysia, and there is currently no recent published data reporting the demographics and outcomes of PV patients in the country. In Western countries, routine annual blood tests are standard, whereas this practice is less common in Malaysia, underscoring the need for improved awareness and accessibility to ensure timely diagnosis of PV.

The development of a Digital Intelligence Quotient (DQ) scale for primary school students is the basis for research on the DQ of primary school students, which helps to scientifically diagnose the level and the current average DQ among Chinese primary school students. This study developed and validated a scale applicable to the assessment of DQ in Chinese primary school students where, the initial scale was first constructed; Then 1109 valid datasets were collected through purposive sampling and divided into Sample A and Sample B; Sample A was subjected to exploratory factor analysis and Sample B was tested by confirmatory factor analysis; The final validated scale consists of 22 items in 7 dimensions: digital identity, digital use, digital safety, digital security, digital emotional intelligence, digital literacy and digital rights. The scale has high reliability and validity and thus can be used as a reliable instrument for assessing DQ in Chinese primary school students.
