Poly(ethylene-co-vinyl acetate) (PEVAc) is a copolymer that consists of non-polar polyethylene (PE) and a polar polyvinyl acetate (PVAc) monomer. PEVAc has high elasticity and is resilient, making it suitable for a variety of applications. However, the tensile strength of this copolymer needs to be improved for specific applications that require enough strength to tolerate high external tension or stress.

Article Synopsis
  • Effective electrochemical sensing requires a balance between optimal signal output and sensitivity, which this study addresses by creating a modified screen-printed electrode (Nafion-PSS/SPE) using two sulfonate-rich polymers.
  • The Nafion-PSS/SPE was successfully employed to detect lead (Pb) and cadmium (Cd) through square wave anodic stripping voltammetry, achieving low detection limits (6.478 ppb for Pb and 5.277 ppb for Cd) and high selectivity against interfering ions.
  • This research highlights a simple screen-printing method for mass-producing heavy metal sensors and provides valuable insights into the electrode's surface properties to improve analytical performance.

Excessive use of tetracycline (TC) is alarming owing to its increased detection in water systems. In this study, a photocatalyst was developed to degrade TC using a Ce-N-co-doped AC/TiO photocatalyst, denoted as Ce/N-AC/TiO, prepared using the sol-gel method assisted by microwave radiation, speeding up the synthesis process. Ce/N-AC/TiO achieved maximum TC degradation of 93.

Background/objectives: Nuclear pleomorphism, a crucial determinant of breast cancer grading under the Nottingham Histopathology Grading (NHG) system, remains inadequately quantified in the existing literature. Motivated by this gap, our study seeks to investigate and establish correlations among morphological features across various scores of nuclear pleomorphism, as per the NHG system. We aim to quantify nuclear pleomorphism across these scores and validate our proposed measurement method against ground-truth data.

  • Radix Glycyrrhizae, derived from the roots of the Glycyrrhiza glabra plant, is a well-known Chinese herbal remedy effective for respiratory issues like coughs and asthma, but its electrical properties are not well-researched due to its complex chemical composition.
  • Analysis using High-Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) found high levels of beneficial compounds such as flavonoids and saponins in Radix Glycyrrhizae, while Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR) identified various functional groups contributing to its medicinal properties.
  • The study measured the extract's dielectric and impedance properties, revealing consistent dielectric constants across instruments, but differing loss factor trends at various frequencies, indicating the need for

The broad-spectrum antibacterial capabilities of fatty acids (FAs) and their reduced propensity to promote resistance have rendered as a promising substitute for conventional antibiotics. The structural significance of fatty acid production with the other lipids is a major energy source, and signal transduction has drawn a great deal of research attention to these biomolecules. Saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids reduce virulence by preventing harmful opportunistic bacteria like Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Chromobacterium violaceum from activating their quorum sensing (QS) systems.

A unique method for determining chlorophyll content in microalgae is devised employing a gold interdigitated electrode (G-IDE) with a 10-µm gap, augmented by a nano-molecularly imprinted polymer (nano-MIP) and a titanium dioxide/multiwalled carbon nanotube (TiO/MWCNT) nanocomposite. The nano-MIP, produced using chlorophyll template voids, successfully trapped chlorophyll, while the TiO/MWCNT nanocomposite, synthesized by the sol-gel technique, exhibited a consistent distribution and anatase crystalline structure. The rebinding of procured chlorophyll powder, which was used as a template for nano-MIP synthesis, was identified with a high determination coefficient (R = 0.

A novel active cell balancing topology for serially connected Li-ion cells in the battery pack for electric vehicle applications.

Sci Rep

August 2024

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, College of Engineering and Information Technology, Ajman University, Ajman, United Arab Emirates.

In a Battery Management System (BMS), cell balancing plays an essential role in mitigating inconsistencies of state of charge (SoCs) in lithium-ion (Li-ion) cells in a battery stack. If the cells are not properly balanced, the weakest Li-ion cell will always be the one limiting the usable capacity of battery pack. Different cell balancing strategies have been proposed to balance the non-uniform SoC of cells in serially connected string.

Water Research and Environmental Sustainability Growth, Centre of Excellence (WAREG), Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), Perlis, Malaysia; Faculty of Civil Engineering and Technology, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), 02600, Arau, Perlis, Malaysia. Electronic address:

Escalating global water pollution exacerbated by textile-dyeing wastewater (TDW) poses significant environmental and health concerns due to the insufficient treatment methods being utilized. Thus, it is imperative to implement more effective treatment solutions to address such issues. In this research, different environmentally-friendly strategies involving effluent recirculation (ER) and Rubia cordifolia plant-derived purpurin electron mediator (EM) were introduced to enhance the treatment of real TDW and bioelectricity generation performance of an anti-gravity flow microbial fuel cell (AGF-MFC).

Article Synopsis
  • Research on the speciation of sulfur and hydrogen molecules during thermophilic dark fermentation has shown how these gases interact with zeolites as effective adsorbents.
  • The study revealed that Zeolite Socony Mobil - 5 has an optimal adsorption capacity for hydrogen sulfide at 25 °C, with a maximum value of 0.00890 mg/g, indicating temperature plays a crucial role in its effectiveness.
  • The findings suggest that the removal of hydrogen sulfide not only improves the quality of biohydrogen produced but also follows specific kinetic and thermodynamic behaviors modeled using the Avrami kinetic and Temkin isotherm models.

Faculty of Computer Science & Information Technology, Universiti Malaysia Sarawak, Kota Samarahan, Sarawak, Malaysia.

Weld defect inspection is an essential aspect of testing in industries field. From a human viewpoint, a manual inspection can make appropriate justification more difficult and lead to incorrect identification during weld defect detection. Weld defect inspection uses X-radiography testing, which is now mostly outdated.
