Background: In the Malaysian primary healthcare setting, neonatal jaundice (NNJ) screening uses either Kramer's Rule (KR), a visual assessment, or a combination with non-invasive transcutaneous bilirubin (TcB). However, data on the quantification of the need for total serum bilirubin (TSB) sampling between these approaches are limited. This study aimed to compare the frequency of blood draws required between the two cohorts, alongside investigating disparities in phototherapy initiation and severe hyperbilirubinemia occurrences.

Chronic wound healing is associated with prolonged elevated inflammation and high levels of oxidative stress leading to cell death. The majority of wounds are colonized with antibiotic-resistant bacterial biofilms such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus. An ideal wound treatment should include agents with antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and antibiofilm behavior.

Electronic cigarettes (e-cigarettes) have emerged as a potential alternative to traditional smoking and may aid in tobacco harm reduction and smoking cessation. E-cigarette use has notably increased, especially among young non-tobacco users, raising concerns due to the unknown long-term health effects. The oral cavity is the first and one of the most crucial anatomical sites for the deposition of e-cigarette aerosols.

Introduction: Inhalation drug delivery can deliver high doses of chemotherapeutic drugs to the lung tumor. This study evaluates the efficacy and the mechanistic pathways of nebulized Cur NPs at various sizes to treat multidrug resistant lung cancer.
Methods And Results: Cur-NPs (30 nm and 200 nm) were nebulized separately onto the multidrug-resistant lung cancer cells (H69AR).

In current toxicological research, 2D cell cultures and animal models are well- accepted and commonly employed methods. However, these approaches have many drawbacks and are distant from the actual environment in human. To embrace this, great efforts have been made to provide alternative methods for non-animal skin models in toxicology studies with the need for more mechanistically informative methods.

Well-trained T-cell immunity is needed for early viral containment, especially with the help of an ideal vaccine. Although most severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-infected convalescent cases have recovered with the generation of virus-specific memory T cells, some cases have encountered T-cell abnormalities. The emergence of several mutant strains has even threatened the effectiveness of the T-cell immunity that was established with the first-generation vaccines.

Curcumin has been used for chronic lung diseases management due to its diversified molecular actions. However, the potential cytotoxicity which occurs in cells following the exposure to high concentrations of curcumin has been overlooked. This study evaluated the toxic events of curcumin nanoparticles (Cur-NPs) with alterable surface polarity in alveolar macrophages (NR8383).

The rise of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases worldwide has driven the need to discover and develop novel therapeutics with superior efficacy to treat this disease. This study aims to develop an innovative aerosolized nano-formulation of favipiravir (FPV) as an anti-viral agent against coronavirus infection. The local delivery of FPV nanoparticles (NPs) via nebulization ensures that the drug can reach the site of infection, the lungs.

Medicinal plants as rich sources of bioactive compounds are now being explored for drug development against COVID-19. 19 medicinal plants known to exhibit antiviral and anti-inflammatory effects were manually curated, procuring a library of 521 metabolites; this was virtually screened against NSP9, including some other viral and host targets and were evaluated for polypharmacological indications. Leads were identified via rigorous scoring thresholds and ADMET filtering.
