The coordination behavior of tris(2-pyridyl)arsine (PyAs) has been studied for the first time on the example of the reactions with CuI, CuBr and AgClO. When treated with CuI in CHCl medium, PyAs unexpectedly affords the scorpionate complex [Cu(PyAs)I]∙CHCl only, while this reaction in MeCN selectively leads to the dimer [Cu(PyAs)I]. At the same time, the interaction of CuBr with PyAs exclusively gives the dimer [Cu(PyAs)Br].

G protein-coupled trace amine-associated receptors (TAAR) recognize different classes of amine compounds, including trace amines or other exogenous and endogenous molecules. Yet, most members of the TAAR family (TAAR2-TAAR9) are considered olfactory receptors involved in sensing innate odors. In this study, TAAR6 mRNA expression was evaluated in the brain transcriptomic datasets available in the GEO, Allen Brain Atlas, and GTEx databases.

A single-crystal X-ray diffraction (XRD) study of diaryliodonium tetrachloroaurates (or, in the recent terminology, tetrachloridoaurates), [(-XCH)I][AuCl] (X = Cl, ; Br, ), was performed for (the structure is denoted as to show similarity with the isomorphic structure ) and two polymorphs─ (obtained from MeOH) and (from 1,2-CHCl). Examination of the XRD data for these three structures revealed 2-center C-X···Au (X = Cl and Br) and 3-center bifurcated C-Br···(-) halogen bonding (abbreviated as XB) between the -Cl or -Br atoms of the diaryliodonium cations and the gold(III) atom of [AuCl]. The noncovalent nature of Au-involving interactions, the nucleophilicity of the gold(III) atoms, and the electrophilic role of -X atoms of the diaryliodonium cations in the XBs were studied by a set of complementary computational methods.

This theoretical study sheds light on the relative catalytic activity of pnictonium, chalconium, and halonium salts in reactions involving elimination of chloride and electrophilic activation of a carbonyl group. DFT calculations indicate that for cationic aromatic onium salts, values of the electrostatic potential on heteroatom σ-holes gradually increase from pnictogen- to halogen-containing species. The higher values of the potential on the halogen atoms of halonium salts result in the overall higher catalytic activity of these species, but in the case of pnictonium and chalconium cations, weak interactions from the side groups provide an additional stabilization effect on the reaction transition states.

Nitro functionalized dibromodiazadiene dyes were prepared and fully characterized including X-ray single crystal analysis. Electron deficient dibromodiazadienes were found to be able to act as donors of halogen bonding (XB), while the nitro group acted as an acceptor of the XB. Depending on the substituents, the Br···O XB competed with other weak interactions, and for some of the dyes, they even outcompeted the XB involving the nitro group.

The nanosized (50-70 nm) pyrochlore BiFeTiO was prepared by a coprecipitation technique. Characterization of BiFeTiO was carried out by powder X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Raman spectroscopy, Mössbauer spectroscopy, and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The study of Fe doping in BiTiO was performed by means of density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

The results of the sampling suggest that H.

Sulfonium and selenonium salts, represented by -aryl dibenzothiophenium and -aryl dibenzoselenophenium triflates, were found to exhibit remarkable catalytic activity in the model Groebke-Blackburn-Bienaymé reaction. Kinetic analysis and density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicated that their catalytic effect is induced by the ligation of the reaction substrates to the σ-holes on the S or Se atom of the cations. The experimental data indicated that although 10-fold excess of the chloride totally inhibits the catalytic activity of the sulfonium salts, the selenonium salt remains catalytically active, which can be explained by the experimentally found lower binding constant of the selenonium derivative to chloride in comparison with the sulfonium analogue.

Facultative winter adult diapause in is regulated by a long-day photoperiodic response. Day length also influences nymphal development, which slows down at the critical (near-threshold) day lengths. We compared the photoperiodic responses of one native (Andong, South Korea) and three invasive (Torino, Italy; Basel, Switzerland; and Sochi, Russia) populations in a laboratory common-garden experiment.

Crystalline inorganic nanoparticles doped with rare earth ions are widely used in a variety of scientific and industry applications due to the unique spectroscopic properties. The temperature dependence of their luminescence parameters makes them promising candidates for self-referencing thermal sensing. Here we report single phase YVO nanoparticles doped with different pairs of rare earth ions (Nd/Er, Tm/Er and Nd/Tm) for contactless ratiometric thermometry within a wide temperature range of 298-573 K.

Computations indicate that cationic and noncharged xenon derivatives should exhibit higher catalytic activity than their iodine-based noncovalent organocatalytic congeners. Perfluorophenyl xenonium(II) is expected to demonstrate the best balance between catalytic activity and chemical stability for use in organocatalysis. Comparing its catalytic activity with that of isoelectronic perfluoroiodobenzene indicates that the high catalytic activity of cationic noncovalent organocatalysts is predominantly attributed to the electrostatic interactions with the reaction substrates, which cause the polarization of ligated species during the reaction progress.

Here, we show that light can bring itself to a complete standstill (self-stop) via self-interaction mediated by the resonant nonlinearity in a fully homogeneous medium. An intense few-cycle pulse, entering the medium, may reshape to form a strongly coupled light-matter bundle, in which the energy is transferred from light to the medium and back periodically on the single-cycle scale. Such oscillating structure can decelerate, alter its propagation direction, and even completely stop, depending on the state of its internal degrees of freedom.

Cu-catalyzed 1,3-dipolar cycloaddition of ethyl 2-azidoacetate to iodobuta-1,3-diynes and subsequent Sonogashira cross-coupling were used to synthesize a large series of new triazole-based push-pull chromophores: 4,5-bis(arylethynyl)-1-1,2,3-triazoles. The study of their optical properties revealed that all molecules have fluorescence properties, the Stokes shift values of which exceed 150 nm. The fluorescent properties of triazoles are easily adjustable depending on the nature of the substituents attached to aryl rings of the arylethynyl moieties at the C4 and C5 atoms of the triazole core.

Dibenziodolium and diphenyliodonium triflates display high catalytic activity for the multicomponent reaction that leads to a series of imidazopyridines. Density functional theory (DFT) calculations indicate that both the salts can play the role of hybrid hydrogen- and halogen-bond-donating organocatalysts, which electrophilically activate the carbonyl and imine groups during the reaction process. The -H atoms in the vicinal position to the I atom play a dual role: forming additional noncovalent bonds with the ligated substrate and increasing the maximum electrostatic potential on the σ-hole at the iodine atom owing to the effects of polarization.
