Background: The World Health Organization (WHO) has outlined a set of targets to achieve eliminating hepatitis C by 2030. In May 2022, Lithuanian health authorities initiated a hepatitis C virus (HCV) screening program to start working towards elimination. In the program, bonus was given to general practitioners (GPs) to promote and conduct anti-HCV tests for two situations: (1) one time testing for individuals born in 1945-1994 and (2) annual HCV testing for persons who inject drugs or are living with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) regardless of age.

Some people resist or recover from health challenges better than others. We studied Lithuanian clean-up workers of the Chornobyl nuclear disaster (LCWC) who worked in the harshest conditions and, despite high ionising radiation doses as well as other factors, continue ageing relatively healthily. Thus, we hypothesised that there might be individual features encoded by the genome which act protectively for better adaptiveness and health that depend on unique positive selection signatures.

The effects of air pollution on the general public received much attention recently. Personal exposure and deposition fraction of aerosol particles were studied in Vilnius, Lithuania, focusing on individuals working in an office and driving to work. Aerosol monitoring in the urban background was found to give an indication of the minimum concentrations of particulate matter (PM) expected at urban roads, as these correspond to the lowest PM concentrations measured there.

Background: To evaluate the role of the quality improvement course (QIC) to reduce the caesarean section (CS) rate among nulliparas (Robson groups 1 and 2) and to find out which group of women have reduced the CS rate following attendance at the course.

Methods: The QIC was organized in 2015. For the evaluation of the CS rate after the OIC, deliveries from the selected hospitals in 2014 and 2016 were compared using MS EXCEL and SPSS 23.

Prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder among Lithuanian breast cancer patients and its risk factors.

J Psychosom Res

January 2020

National Cancer Institute, Santariskiu str. 1, LT-08660 Vilnius, Lithuania; Vilnius University, Universiteto str. 3, LT-01513 Vilnius, Lithuania.

Introduction: Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is more common among oncology patients than in the general population. The purpose of this study was to examine the prevalence of PTSD symptoms among Lithuanian patients with breast cancer and to analyse its clinical, psychosocial and demographic risk factors.

Methods: Women with T1-T3/N0-N3/M0 stages of breast cancer took part in this study.

Endoscopic ultrasound findings predict the recurrence of esophageal varices after endoscopic band ligation: a prospective cohort study.

Scand J Gastroenterol

May 2016

Clinic of Gastroenterology, Nephrourology and Surgery, Medical Faculty, Vilnius University , Universiteto str. 3, LT-01513, Vilnius , Lithuania.

Objective: Variceal recurrence following endoscopic band ligation (EBL) is common. Esophageal collateral veins (ECV) are observed by endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) in patients with portal hypertension. The aim of the present study was to assess the role of EUS in predicting the recurrence of esophageal varices following EBL.

On the stability of the hydrogen chloride complexes with ethylene and acetylene. A high resolution gas phase and ab initio study.

Department of General Physics and Spectroscopy, Vilnius University, Universiteto str 3, Vilnius-2734, Lithuania.

The temperature dependencies of the intensities of the HCl stretching bands of the hydrogen chloride complexes with acetylene and ethylene have been used to obtain estimates of the dissociation enthalpies of the two complexes. Quantum chemical calculations on the Hartree Fock and DFT/B3LYP levels of theory have been combined with experimental data to give estimates of the intensities of the HCl stretching vibration in the two complexes.
