The problematic of microplastics pollution in the marine environment is tightly linked to their colonization by a wide diversity of microorganisms, the so-called plastisphere. The composition of the plastisphere relies on a complex combination of multiple factors including the surrounding environment, the time of incubation along with the polymer type, making it difficult to understand how the biofilm evolves during the microplastic lifetime over the oceans. To better define bacterial community assembly processes on plastics, we performed a 5 months spatio-temporal survey of the plastisphere in an oyster farming area in the Bay of Brest (France).

Pesticides are present in various facets of the environment, and consumers are exposed to a combination of multiple pesticide residues through food intake. Background: The systemic capillary leak syndrome (SCLS), also known as Clarkson disease, is a very rare condition characterized by recurrent life-threatening episodes of vascular hyperpermeability in the presence of a monoclonal gammopathy. Extended intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIG) treatment is associated with fewer recurrences and improved survival, but the optimal treatment dosage and duration remain unknown.
Objective: We aim to evaluate the safety of IVIG tapering and withdrawal in patients with SCLS.

Sulcal width was measured in T1-weighted MRI images at baseline in 433 adults aged ≥70 years with memory complaints from the MRI-Multidomain Alzheimer Preventive Trial study. Cognition was evaluated at baseline, 6, 12, 24, and 36 months of follow-up with a composite Z score.

The study of animal mummification in ancient Egypt has recently received increasing attention from a number of modern scholars given the fact that this part of ancient Egyptian funerary and religious history is a practice yet to be fully understood. In this study, nine samples of embalming matter were extracted from six gazelle mummies from the archaeological site of Kom Mereh (modern village of Komir), dated to the Roman period of dominance in ancient Egypt. All samples were analyzed for the presence of inorganic and organic matter applying a multi-analytical approach based on Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

Background: The cause of the motor neuron (MN) death that drives terminal pathology in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) remains unknown, and it is thought that the cellular environment of the MN may play a key role in MN survival. Several lines of evidence implicate vesicles in ALS, including that extracellular vesicles may carry toxic elements from astrocytes towards MNs, and that pathological proteins have been identified in circulating extracellular vesicles of sporadic ALS patients. Because MN degeneration at the neuromuscular junction is a feature of ALS, and muscle is a vesicle-secretory tissue, we hypothesized that muscle vesicles may be involved in ALS pathology.

Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a devastating neurodegenerative disease caused by reduced amounts of the ubiquitously expressed Survival of Motor Neuron (SMN) protein. In agreement with its crucial role in the biogenesis of spliceosomal snRNPs, SMN-deficiency is correlated to numerous splicing alterations in patient cells and various tissues of SMA mouse models.
