The study employs a multimicroscopy approach, combining Scanning Electrochemical Cell Microscopy (SECCM) and Field Emission Scanning Electron Microscopy (FESEM), to investigate electrochemical nucleation and growth (EN&G). Cu nanoparticles (NPs) are meticulously electrodeposited on glassy carbon (GC), to perform co-located characterization, supported by analytical modeling and statistical analysis. The findings reveal clear correlations between electrochemical descriptors (i-t transients) and physical descriptors (NPs size and distribution), offering valuable insights into nucleation kinetics, influenced by varied overpotentials, surface state, and electrode's area.

Proteins are the major and most diverse biomolecules, directing all activities of a cell. For this reason, visualizing protein expression, localization, and dynamics is fundamental in biology. In most cases, protein visualization relies on the overexpression of fluorescently tagged proteins which may not recapitulate endogenous expression pattern and dynamics.

Background: Peptide receptor radionuclide therapy (PRRT) with [Lu]Lu-DOTA-TATE has emerged as a promising treatment for gastroenteropancreatic neuroendocrine tumours (GEP-NETs). Its treatment protocol is currently standardised for all patients, resulting in different patient outcomes. This study investigates the variability of tumours and organs-at-risk (kidneys and red marrow) dosimetric parameters across treatment cycles in patients with pancreatic and intestinal NETs.

However, the impact of activity type (active vs. passive) during the offline break on sequential motor performance remains poorly investigated in children.

BackgroundInappropriate antimicrobial consumption (AMC) drives the emergence of antimicrobial resistance. Institutionalised, older populations are associated with antimicrobial treatments of longer duration and broader spectrum than recommended, higher rates of multidrug-resistant infections and poorer outcomes for resistant infections. Yet systematic, national monitoring of AMC in nursing home (NH) residents is lacking.

This brief review highlights recent advances in the transport of oxoanions using synthetic carriers, focusing on both progress and ongoing challenges in the field. The difficulty of transporting these oxoanions increases with their hydration enthalpies, with less hydrated nitrate and perchlorate being relatively easy to transport. Recent progress has focused on the transport of moderately hydrated anions such as bicarbonate and carboxylates, where studies are influenced by the free diffusion of neutral species obtained by (de)protonation equilibria.

Translation-targeting toxic small alarmone synthetases (toxSAS) are effectors of bacterial toxin-antitoxin systems that pyrophosphorylate the 3'-CCA end of transfer RNA (tRNA) to prevent aminoacylation. toxSAS are implicated in antiphage immunity: Phage detection triggers the toxSAS activity to shut down viral production. We show that the toxSAS FaRel2 inspects the tRNA acceptor stem to specifically select tRNA and tRNA.

Motivation is considered a crucial factor in determining emotion regulation choice (ER choice). Our previous study revealed that increased motivation led to a preference for distraction over reappraisal due to the narrowed attention, yet neural underpinnings supporting this phenomenon remain unclear. In this study, we used event-related potentials (ERPs) to investigate whether motivation influences ER choice by early attention processing (P2) or late resource engagement (LPP).

Introduction: In critically ill patients, individualised strategies for red blood cell transfusion (RBCT) are lacking. The objective of this study is to demonstrate the potential advantages of employing an individualised transfusion strategy compared with a restrictive approach, in unselected intensive care unit (ICU) patients.
Methods: This will be a randomised, multicentre, international trial.

Objectives: Although it is known that subjective age is strongly influenced by health, few studies have explored this relation longitudinally. This study aims to examine the longitudinal evolution of the age differential between subjective and chronological age, as well as how functional limitations and birth cohort affect this evolution.
Methods: This study analyses four waves covering 10 years (2004-2014) of the English Longitudinal Study on Ageing, making use of 35,242 observations of 14,219 participants.

Understanding carboxylate transport through lipid membranes under physiological conditions is critical in biomedicine and biotechnology, as it allows for the emulation of biological membrane functions and can enhance the absorption of hydrophobic carboxylate-based drugs. However, the structural diversity of carboxylates has made it challenging to study their transport, and the limited available examples do not provide a comprehensive understanding of the role of the organic moiety in this process. Here, we present an in-depth analysis of the diffusion and transport of various aliphatic and aromatic carboxylates into liposomes.

The detection and quantification of additives in tobacco products are critical for ensuring consumer safety and compliance with regulatory standards. Traditional analytical techniques, like gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS), liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), and others, although effective, suffer from drawbacks, including complex sample preparation, high costs, lengthy analysis times, and the requirement for skilled operators. This study addresses these challenges by evaluating the efficacy of mid-infrared (MIR) spectroscopy and near-IR (NIR) spectroscopy, coupled with multivariate analysis, as potential solutions for the detection and quantification of additives in tobacco products.

Controlling polymorphism, namely, the occurrence of multiple crystal forms for a given compound, is still an open technological challenge that needs to be addressed for the reliable manufacturing of crystalline functional materials. Here, we devised a series of 13 organic crystals engineered to embody molecular fragments undergoing specific nanoscale motion anticipated to drive cooperative order-disorder phase transitions. By combining polarized optical microscopy coupled with a heating/cooling stage, differential scanning calorimetry, X-ray diffraction, low-frequency Raman spectroscopy, and calculations (density functional theory and molecular dynamics), we proved the occurrence of cooperative transitions in all the crystalline systems, and we demonstrated how both the molecular structure and lattice dynamics play crucial roles in these peculiar solid-to-solid transformations.

Antiaromatic rings are infamously unstable and difficult to work with but they possess unusual electronic properties that make them interesting for fundamental and applied research. This perspective presents reports on discrete or polymeric assemblies made from antiaromatic building blocks, bound by either covalent linkages or supramolecular interactions. Compared to polymeric materials, discrete assemblies are more commonly studied, but most efforts have been devoted to their preparation and fundamental property studies, whereas applications are scarcely suggested.

The site of San Valentino in San Vito al Tagliamento is one of the main urnfield cemeteries in northeastern Italy. Archaeological excavations carried out in the seventies brought to light a cremation cemetery consisting of mainly urn graves with pottery and metal artefacts as grave goods. These materials suggest that the individuals buried in San Valentino were not an isolated local community but had intense contacts with other north-Adriatic communities, in particular with the neighbouring Veneto area, as suggested by the close similarity of the biconical vessels with those recovered in the graves of Este.

Aims/hypothesis: Surviving beta cells in type 1 diabetes respond to inflammation by upregulating programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-L1) to engage immune cell programmed death protein 1 (PD-1) and limit destruction by self-reactive immune cells. Extracellular vesicles (EVs) and their cargo can serve as biomarkers of beta cell health and contribute to islet intercellular communication. We hypothesised that the inflammatory milieu of type 1 diabetes increases PD-L1 in beta cell EV cargo and that EV PD-L1 may protect beta cells against immune-mediated cell death.

The 2004 tsunami and coastal subsidence resulted in 97% mangrove loss in the Nicobar Islands (India), leading to major social-ecological change. We assessed how the Nicobar mangrove social-ecological system (SES) responded to the 2004 event using the adaptive cycle (AC) framework. We describe the changes across AC phases (collapse-Ω, reorganisation-α, growth-r, and conservation-K) concerning various capital types (natural, built, human, social), connectedness and resilience.
