Silicone-based breast implants are commonly used, but there are concerns about their long-term safety. While implantation results in the formation of a periprosthetic tissue that isolates the implant from the rest of the host body, silicone can leak and reach surrounding tissues. We combined histological analysis and gene expression profiling (RNA sequencing) of samples from human patients with silicone breast implants with different fillers (silicone or serum), surface topographies and/or shell rupture, and performed systematic cross-comparisons.

Biological peptides have emerged as promising candidates for data storage applications due to their versatility and programmability. Recent advances in peptide synthesis and sequencing technologies have enabled the development of peptide-based data storage systems for realizing novel information storage technologies with enhanced capacity, durability, and data access speeds. In this study, we performed coarse-grained peptide sequencing of 12 distinct sequences through single-layer MoS solid-state nanopores (SSNs) using molecular dynamics (MD).

Objectives: The use of plasma uracil measurements to detect dihydropyrimidine dehydrogenase (DPD) deficiency is one of the methods for preventing toxicities associated with fluoropyrimidines, including 5-Fluorouracil (5-FU). Unfortunately, this measurement is subject to variations, that may lead to unnecessary dosage reductions and therefore to a reduced efficacy of treatment. Recently, new factors such as hepatic and renal impairment have been proposed as also influencing uracil concentration.

Methylmercury (MeHg) is a widespread contaminant that bioaccumulates in marine food webs, including those in the Mediterranean sea. It poses serious health risks, especially to developing infants and children, where exposure can cause neurological damage and developmental delays. In addition to health concerns, high MeHg levels in seafood can lead to economic losses through cognitive impairments that reduce productivity.

The invasive stink bug has become an important pest of many crops, causing severe economic losses to farmers. Control of the pest mainly relies on multiple applications of broad-spectrum insecticides, undermining the integrated pest management programs and causing secondary pest outbreaks. In the native area, egg parasitoids are the main natural enemies of , among which is considered the predominant species.

In a qualitative investigation carried out in different environments (hospital, school, home) among 12-to-21-year-old asthmatics, we describe their perceptions of a pathology that is at once chronic and intermittent. More specifically, we show how an asthma attack constitutes a traumatic experience occurring in a temporality characterized by bodily upheaval. We describe the emotional labor provided by young asthmatics in their interpretation of their bodily signs, which are often read differently than in the medical sphere.

Respiratory infections are associated with a huge burden of disease every year, and disproportionately affect older adults, namely those aged 65 years and older. Older adults are at increased risk of infections compared to their younger counterparts, and once infected, have a higher risk of experiencing severe disease course, complications and long-term sequelae. Therefore, vaccination is clearly a key strategy to prevent infection and its attendant negative consequences.

Autonomous Sensory Meridian Response (ASMR) is a multisensory experience most often associated with feelings of relaxation and altered consciousness, elicited by stimuli which include whispering, repetitive movements, and close personal attention. Since 2015, ASMR research has grown rapidly, spanning disciplines from neuroscience to media studies but lacking a collaborative or interdisciplinary approach. To build a cohesive and connected structure for ASMR research moving forwards, a modified Delphi study was conducted with ASMR experts, practitioners, community members, and researchers from various disciplines.

The objective of this study (registered under number 2020 006) was to assess the internal consistency of the revised Mental Health Professional Culture Inventory (MHPCI) scale, which comprises 15 items, among mental health service workers in Romania. To examine the psychometric properties of the MHPCI questionnaire within the Romanian population, we employed two main methods: The partial credit model (PCM) and Exploratory factor analysis (EFA). A total of 94 individuals were interviewed, and among them, 71 provided complete responses to the questionnaire.

Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IDB) are chronic disorders characterized by gut inflammation, mucosal damage, increased epithelial permeability and altered mucus layer. No accurate in vitro model exists to simulate these characteristics. In this context, drug development for IBD or intestinal inflammation requires in vivo evaluations to verify treatments efficacy.

The present study investigated the role of endothelial BDNF in cognition. Male adult mice with a selective knockout of BDNF in endothelial cells () and their wild-type littermates (WT) were subjected to tests for detection of anxiety- and depression-like behaviors and impaired recognition memory. Neuronal activity and synaptogenesis were assessed from hippocampal levels of c-fos and synaptophysin, respectively, and cerebral capillary density from forebrain levels of CD31.

Primitive reflexes (PRs) are involuntary motor responses present at birth, typically replaced by voluntary motor control during development. If PRs remain active beyond infancy, they can impair motor and cognitive abilities. This study investigated the correlation between active PRs and Tactical (TaS) and Technical Skills (TeS) in professional football matches.

Oral administration of siRNA is a challenging strategy for the local treatment of intestinal diseases, including cancer and inflammatory bowel disease. Both nucleic acids and delivery systems, especially lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), are sensitive to the acidic pH of the stomach, bile salts and digestive enzymes. The present work focuses on the design and evaluation of gastroresistant alginate microparticles (MPs) prepared with an original process for oral delivery of siRNA.

The Mimosa pudica leaf has motor organs allowing movements driven by cell osmotic changes in the parenchyma cells in response to various stimuli. Short white light pulses induce rapid and large seismonastic-like movements (denoted "photostimulation") of the primary pulvini in various leaves within 120 s after the onset of light. An early event recorded is a wavelength-related modification of the plasma membrane difference: potential depolarization under white, blue, green, and red wavelengths, and hyperpolarization under far red wavelengths (and also in darkness).

When considering the vibroacoustical behavior of the family of violin instruments, especially related to their construction, numerous beliefs and theories coexist that are not necessarily compatibles between each other. More specifically, the resulting sound or dynamics of the instrument are associated to tonewood properties and geometry, but with ranking and weights that vary according to beliefs and testimony of makers. This study presents an approach to understanding the relative influence of both geometrical and material properties on the vibrational dynamics of the violin.

A global energy transition to using sustainable renewable sources is being driven by global agreements. Simultaneously there is a call for increased biodiversity conservation. This creates a green-green dilemma, where the expansion of renewables could lead to the demise of biodiversity if not carefully assessed, managed and monitored.
