The inhibitor of apoptosis protein BIRC2 regulates fundamental cell death and survival signaling pathways. Here we show that BIRC2 accumulates in the nucleus via binding of its second and third BIR domains, BIRC2 and BIRC2, to the histone H3 tail and report the structure of the BIRC2-H3 complex. RNA-seq analysis reveals that the genes involved in interferon and defense response signaling and cell-cycle regulation are most affected by depletion of BIRC2.

The vibrational dynamics in the sub-THz range of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) having ordered cylindrical mesopores was investigated. MCM-41 and SBA-15 particles were synthesized, and their structure was determined using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), low-angle X-ray diffraction (XRD), N physisorption analyses, and Raman scattering. Brillouin scattering measurements are reported and enabled determining the stiffness of the silica walls (speed of sound) using finite element calculations for the ordered mesoporous structure.

KPTN-related disorder is an autosomal recessive disorder associated with germline variants in KPTN (previously known as kaptin), a component of the mTOR regulatory complex KICSTOR. To gain further insights into the pathogenesis of KPTN-related disorder, we analysed mouse knockout and human stem cell KPTN loss-of-function models. Kptn -/- mice display many of the key KPTN-related disorder phenotypes, including brain overgrowth, behavioural abnormalities, and cognitive deficits.

Noise is considered an environmental stressor adversely affecting well-being and quality of life, inter-individual communications, and attention and cognitive function and inducing emotional responses, corresponding to noise annoyance. In addition, noise exposure is associated with nonauditory effects including worsening mental health, cognitive impairments, and adverse birth outcomes, sleep disorders, and increased annoyance. An accumulating body of evidence has indicated that traffic noise is also associated with CVD, through multiple pathways.

A comprehensive overview of the irreversible port-Hamiltonian system's formulation for finite and infinite dimensional systems defined on 1D spatial domains is provided in a unified manner. The irreversible port-Hamiltonian system formulation shows the extension of classical port-Hamiltonian system formulations to cope with irreversible thermodynamic systems for finite and infinite dimensional systems. This is achieved by including, in an explicit manner, the coupling between irreversible mechanical and thermal phenomena with the thermal domain as an energy-preserving and entropy-increasing operator.

We investigated here whether the combination of doxorubicin, a standard chemotherapy in TNBC with glyceryltrinitrate (GTN), a nitric oxide (NO) donor, could overcome chemotherapy resistance and highlight the mechanisms involved in a mouse model of TNBC.
