This limits our ability to compare functional outcomes. There is no unifying international terminology available that precisely describes the anatomical boundaries and extent of the different types of treatment.

Anxiety and Depression Features in Laryngopharyngeal Reflux Disease: A Systematic Review.

Objective: To investigate the anxiety and depression features in laryngopharyngeal reflux disease (LPRD).

Methods: A laryngologist and librarian conducted a PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library systematic review related to anxiety, depression, and mental health in LPRD through the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses statements.

Results: Of the 96 identified studies, 22 publications met the inclusion criteria, accounting for 2162 patients with suspected LPRD (n = 1607), gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD; n = 423), both LPRD and GERD (n = 132), and 926 healthy/asymptomatic individuals.

Effect of the 1D/2D dimensionality in copper and silver thiolate coordination polymers on their photophysical properties.

A series of four new copper and silver-thiolate, [M(-SPhCOR)] (M = Cu, Ag and R = H, Me), coordination polymers is reported. The study shows that the hydrogen bonding between the carboxylic acids directs the formation of a 2D structure associated with poor photoemission, while the steric hindrance of the ester groups allows the assembly of a 1D network coupled with bright luminescence.

Combining dosiomics and machine learning methods for predicting severe cardiac diseases in childhood cancer survivors: the French Childhood Cancer Survivor Study.

Background: Cardiac disease (CD) is a primary long-term diagnosed pathology among childhood cancer survivors. Dosiomics (radiomics extracted from the dose distribution) have received attention in the past few years to assess better the induced risk of radiotherapy (RT) than standard dosimetric features such as dose-volume indicators. Hence, using the spatial information contained in the dosiomics features with machine learning methods may improve the prediction of CD.

A glucocorticoid spike derails muscle repair to heterotopic ossification after spinal cord injury.

Why severe injury to the central nervous system (CNS) triggers the development of large neurogenic heterotopic ossifications (NHOs) within periarticular muscles remains unknown. We report that spinal cord injury (SCI) triggers a rapid corticosterone spike in mice, which is causal for NHO development because treatments with corticosterone or the synthetic glucocorticoid (GC) receptor (GR) agonist dexamethasone are sufficient to trigger heterotopic ossification and upregulate the expression of osteoinductive and osteogenic differentiation genes in injured muscles even without SCI. The central role for GR signaling in causing NHO is further demonstrated in mice deleted for the GR gene (Nr3c1), which no longer develop NHO after SCI.

Methods: According to the PRISMA statements, two investigators searched the literature related to the prevalence of symptoms, findings, and clinical therapeutic outcomes of reflux in singers through a PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library systematic review.

Results: Of the 91 identified studies, 18 publications met the inclusion criteria, accounting for 2288 singers and 1398 controls, respectively.

Transoral Flexible Laser Posterior Transverse Cordotomy with Blue Laser: A Case Describing a New Surgical Approach.

The posterior transverse cordotomy (PTC) can be performed for posterior glottic stenosis (PGS) in the operating room through suspension laryngoscopy. This procedure requires adequate exposure of the vocal cords. An alternative PTC approach was carried out on a 56-year-old man without a view of the vocal cords during suspension laryngoscopy.

ISHLT consensus statement on the perioperative use of ECLS in lung transplantation: Part II: Intraoperative considerations.

The use of extracorporeal life support (ECLS) throughout the perioperative phase of lung transplantation requires nuanced planning and execution by an integrated team of multidisciplinary experts. To date, no multidisciplinary consensus document has examined the perioperative considerations of how to best manage these patients. To address this challenge, this perioperative utilization of ECLS in lung transplantation consensus statement was approved for development by the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation Standards and Guidelines Committee.

Methods: A systematic review of the current literature in PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library regarding etiologies and management of PBVFP was performed until November 2023 according to PRISMA statements. Quality assessment was assessed with Methodological Index for Non-Randomized Studies (MINORS) tool.

Inter-rater Reliability of the Reflux Sign Assessment-10 (RSA-10).

Objective: To evaluate the inter-rater reliability and internal consistency of the Reflux Sign Assessment-10 (RSA-10) among otolaryngologists and speech therapists with various experiences.

Methods: Six experts (2 otolaryngologists, 2 speech-therapists, and 2 speech-therapist students) rated 300 clinical images of oral, laryngeal, and pharyngeal signs from patients with laryngopharyngeal reflux disease diagnosis at the 24-hour hypopharyngeal-esophageal multichannel intraluminal impedance-pH monitoring. Inter-rater reliability and internal consistency were evaluated with Intraclass Correlation (ICC) and Cronbach-α.

Objective: To investigate the accuracy of information provided by ChatGPT-4o to patients about tracheotomy.

Methods: Twenty common questions of patients about tracheotomy were presented to ChatGPT-4o twice (7-day intervals). The accuracy, clarity, relevance, completeness, referencing, and usefulness of responses were assessed by a board-certified otolaryngologist and a board-certified intensive care unit practitioner with the Quality Analysis of Medical Artificial Intelligence (QAMAI) tool.
