Background: The extent of the consequences of an episode of severe acute kidney injury (AKI) on long-term outcome of critically ill patients remain debated. We conducted a prospective follow-up of patients included in a large multicenter clinical trial of renal replacement therapy (RRT) initiation strategy during severe AKI (the Artificial Kidney Initiation in Kidney Injury, AKIKI) to investigate long-term survival, renal outcome and health related quality of life (HRQOL). We also assessed the influence of RRT initiation strategy on these outcomes.

DNA methylation in plant genomes occurs in different sequences and genomic contexts that have very different properties. DNA methylation that occurs in CG (mCG) sequence context shows transgenerational stability and high epimutation rate, and can thus provide genealogical information at short time scales. However, due to meta-stability and because mCG variants may arise due to other factors than epimutation, such as environmental stress exposure, it is not clear how well mCG captures genealogical information at micro-evolutionary time scales.

Introduction: Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) remains the leading cause of infections treated in the intensive care units (ICU). In a personalised care approach, we hypothesise that the duration of treatment of VAP can be reduced in function of the response to treatment.
Methods And Analysis: The Antimicrobial Stewardship for Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia in Intensive Care (ASPIC) trial is a pragmatic national multicentre, phase III, non-inferiority, comparative randomised (1:1) single-blinded clinical trial.

Sustained ANKRD26 expression associated with germline ANKRD26 mutations causes thrombocytopenia 2 (THC2), an inherited platelet disorder associated with a predisposition to leukemia. Some patients also present with erythrocytosis and/or leukocytosis. Using multiple human-relevant in vitro models (cell lines, primary patients' cells and patient-derived induced pluripotent stem cells) we demonstrate for the first time that ANKRD26 is expressed during the early steps of erythroid, megakaryocyte and granulocyte differentiation, and is necessary for progenitor cell proliferation.

The European Liver and Intestine Transplant Association, ELITA, promoted a Consensus Conference involving 20 experts across the world which generated updated guidelines on HBV prophylaxis in liver transplant candidates and recipients. This study explores the economic impact associated with the implementation of the new ELITA guidelines. To this aim, a condition-specific cohort simulation model has been developed to compare new and historical prophylaxis, including only pharmaceutical cost and using the European perspective.

Hyperleukocytosis is associated with a significant early mortality rate in patients with acute myeloid leukemia (AML). To date, no controlled trial has ever evaluated a strategy to reduce this risk, and the initial management of these patients remains heterogeneous worldwide. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the influence of a short course of intravenous dexamethasone on the early outcomes of patients with hyperleukocytic AML with white blood cell (WBC) count above 50 × 10/L.

The NFIA-ETO2 fusion is the product of a t(1;16)(p31;q24) chromosomal translocation, so far, exclusively found in pediatric patients with pure erythroid leukemia (PEL). To address the role for the pathogenesis of the disease, we facilitated the expression of the NFIA-ETO2 fusion in murine erythroblasts (EBs). We observed that NFIA-ETO2 significantly increased proliferation and impaired erythroid differentiation of murine erythroleukemia cells and of primary fetal liver-derived EBs.

As the field of nanocrystal-based optoelectronics matures, more advanced techniques must be developed in order to reveal the electronic structure of nanocrystals, particularly with device-relevant conditions. So far, most of the efforts have been focused on optical spectroscopy, and electrochemistry where an absolute energy reference is required. Device optimization requires probing not only the pristine material but also the material in its actual environment (i.

Setting-up a high quality, compliant and efficient pharmacovigilance (PV) system in multi-country clinical trials can be more challenging for academic sponsors than for companies. To ensure the safety of all participants in academic studies and that the PV system fulfils all regulations, we set up a centralized PV system that allows sponsors to delegate work on PV. This initiative was put in practice by our Inserm-ANRS MIE PV department in two distinct multinational European consortia with 19 participating countries: conect4children (c4c) for paediatrics research and EU-Response for Covid-19 platform trials.

A dimer on a periodic potential is a simple system that exhibits a surprisingly rich dynamics. This system is conservative, but it is nonlinear and nonintegrable. In a previous work, we evidenced the autoparametric excitation of the relative motion by the center of mass in two limiting cases (very small or very large initial energy, compared to the external potential depth).

Auroral zones are regions where, in an average sense, aurorae due to solar activity are most likely spotted. Their shape and, similarly, the geographical locations most vulnerable to extreme space weather events (which we term 'danger zones') are modulated by Earth's time-dependent internal magnetic field whose structure changes on yearly to decadal timescales. Strategies for mitigating ground-based space weather impacts over the next few decades can benefit from accurate forecasts of this evolution.

We introduce a response theory based transformation for excitonic polarizability into mobility, which allows an in-depth analysis of optical pump-THz probe conductivity experiments, and compare the results with those of a conventional oscillator model. THz spectroscopy is of high interest for investigations in high bandwidth and low noise nanoelectronics or solar energy harvesting nanomaterials. In contrast to simple scaling of estimated static polarizability, suggested in the literature, an appropriate transformation of the spectral response into mobility can be achieved in principle forward and backward due to the presence of dephasing, as we show for the exemplary system of CdSe nanoplatelets.

Background: Social metacognition is still poorly understood in schizophrenia, particularly its neuropsychological basis and its impact on insight and medication adherence. We therefore quantified social metacognition as the agreement between objective and subjective mentalization and assessed its correlates in a sample of individuals with schizophrenia spectrum disorders.
Methods: Participants consisted of 143 patients with schizophrenia or schizoaffective disorders who underwent a metacognitive version of a mentalization task, an extensive neuropsychological battery, and a clinical evaluation to assess their insight into illness and medication adherence.

Senescence is a key event in the impairment of adipose tissue (AT) function with obesity and aging but the underlying molecular and cellular players remain to be fully defined, particularly with respect to the human AT progenitors. We have found distinct profiles of senescent progenitors based on AT location between stroma from visceral versus subcutaneous AT. In addition to flow cytometry, we characterized the location differences with transcriptomic and proteomic approaches, uncovering the genes and developmental pathways that are underlying replicative senescence.

A recent breakthrough in glass science has been the synthesis of ultrastable glasses via physical vapor deposition techniques. These samples display enhanced thermodynamic, kinetic and mechanical stability, with important implications for fundamental science and technological applications. However, the vapor deposition technique is limited to atomic, polymer and organic glass-formers and is only able to produce thin film samples.
