Institut de Mathématiques de Jussieu - Paris Rive Gauche (IMJ-PRG), UMR 7586, CNRS, Université Paris Diderot, 8, Pace Aurélie Nemours, 75013 Paris, France.

Accurate protein synthesis requires ribosomes to integrate signals from distant functional sites and execute complex dynamics. Despite advances in understanding ribosome structure and function, two key questions remain: how information is transmitted between these distant sites, and how ribosomal movements are synchronized? We recently highlighted the existence of ribosomal protein networks, likely evolved to participate in ribosome signaling. Here, we investigate the relationship between ribosomal protein networks and ribosome dynamics.

The concept of treating diabetes with gut hormones was proposed in the early days of endocrinology (1902), but was not put into practice until the early 2000s. The discovery of the incretin effect (potentiation of insulin secretion when glucose is taken orally compared to intravenously) led to the discovery of the two main gut hormones responsible for this effect: GIP and GLP-1. The reduction of the incretin effect is directly involved in the pathogenesis of type 2 diabetes, which has led to the development of a series of innovative therapies such as GLP-1 analogues, GLP-1 receptor agonists, GIP/GLP-1 co-agonists and GIP/GLP-1/glucagon tri-agonists.

Sorbonne Université, INSERM U1130, CNRS UMR8246, Neuroscience Paris Seine - Institut de Biologie Paris-Seine (NPS-IBPS), Paris, France.

The microtubule cytoskeleton is a major driving force of neuronal circuit development. Fine-tuned remodelling of this network by selective activation of microtubule-regulating proteins, including microtubule-severing enzymes, has emerged as a central process in neuronal wiring. Tubulin posttranslational modifications control both microtubule properties and the activities of their interacting proteins.

Oncocytic adenocarcinoma (OC) of the salivary glands is a rare and controversial entity. It was recently reclassified as "salivary carcinoma NOS and emerging entities" in the 2022 WHO classification of head and neck tumors. The lack of specific molecular alterations and its potential affiliation with other salivary gland carcinomas, such as the oncocytic mucoepidermoid carcinomas (OMEC) or the oncocytic subtype of salivary duct carcinomas (OSDC) justified this reclassification.

New Insights on In Vitro Maturation of Oocytes for Fertility Preservation.

Int J Mol Sci

October 2024

Department of Reproductive Medicine and Fertility Preservation, Université Paris-Saclay, Assistance Publique-Hôpitaux de Paris, Antoine Beclère Hospital, 92140 Clamart, France.

In the last decade, the evolution of oncofertility has sparked a resurgence of interest in in vitro maturation (IVM) due to its suitability in certain oncological scenarios where controlled ovarian hyperstimulation may not be feasible. The retrieval of immature cumulus-oocyte complexes from small antral follicles, regardless of the menstrual cycle phase, presents a swift opportunity to vitrify mature oocytes or embryos post-IVM in urgent situations or when stimulation is not advisable. Harvesting immature cumulus-oocyte complexes and immature oocytes can be achieved transvaginally or directly in the laboratory from extracorporeal ovarian tissue.

Article Synopsis
  • - Syncytins are genes derived from retroviruses that are crucial for the development of a syncytial structure in the placenta, influencing both placentogenesis and embryonic growth.
  • - In mice, there are two syncytiotrophoblast layers in the placenta, ST-I and ST-II, each expressing different syncytins: SynA and SynB, which interact with distinct cellular receptors for fusion.
  • - The study identified PiT1 as the receptor for SynB, and its absence leads to defects in the development of the ST-II layer, highlighting the importance of PiT1 in proper placental function.

Large B-cell lymphoma (LBCL) is a heterogeneous lymphoid malignancy in which MYC gene rearrangement (MYC-R) is associated with a poor prognosis, prompting the recommendation for more intensive treatment. MYC-R detection relies on fluorescence in situ hybridization method which is time consuming, expensive, and not available in all laboratories. Automating MYC-R detection on hematoxylin-and-eosin-stained whole slide images of LBCL would decrease the need for costly molecular testing and improve pathologists' productivity.

Taylor Dispersion Analysis (TDA) allows diffusion coefficient (D) or hydrodynamic radius (R) determination on a wide range of size between angstroms and about 300 nm. However, solute adsorption phenomena can affect the repeatability and reproducibility of TDA. Several numerical studies addressed the theoretical impact of solute adsorption in TDA, but very few experimental studies focus on this topic and no experimental methodologies were proposed so far to reduce the impact of adsorption in TDA.
