Background: Metabolic syndrome (MetS) is a highly prevalent and harmful medical disorder often comorbid with psychosis where it can contribute to cardiovascular complications. As immune dysfunction is a key shared component of both MetS and schizophrenia (SZ), this study investigated the relationship between immune alterations and MetS in patients with SZ, whilst controlling the impact of confounding clinical characteristics including psychiatric symptoms and comorbidities, history of childhood maltreatment and psychotropic treatments.
Method: A total of 310 patients meeting DSM-IV criteria for SZ or schizoaffective disorders (SZA), with or without MetS, were systematically assessed and included in the FondaMental Advanced Centers of Expertise for Schizophrenia (FACE-SZ) cohort.

Objective: Zoledronic acid (ZA) is an antiosteoporotic drug that has been proven to reduce mortality after a hip fracture (HF). ZA is however underused with older HF patients. One possible cause may be the high prevalence of severe renal failure and hypocalcemia which contraindicate ZA administration.

Cannabinoid receptor 1 (CB1R), a G protein-coupled receptor, plays a fundamental role in synaptic plasticity. Abnormal activity and deregulation of CB1R signaling result in a broad spectrum of pathological conditions. CB1R signaling is regulated by receptor desensitization including phosphorylation of residues within the intracellular C terminus by G protein-coupled receptor kinases (GRKs) that may lead to endocytosis.

Objectives: High rates of non-right-handedness (NRH) including mixed-handedness have been reported in neurodevelopmental disorders. In schizophrenia (SZ), atypical handedness has been inconsistently related to impaired features. We aimed to determine whether SZ subjects with NRH and mixed-handedness had poorer clinical and cognitive outcomes compared to their counterparts.

Treatment-resistant schizophrenia (TRS) affects around 30% of patients with schizophrenia (SZ) resulting in poor functioning, relapses, and reduced quality of life. Convergent findings show that inflammation could contribute to resistance. We thus search for immune signatures of patients with TRS/ultra TRS (UTRS) in a sample of community-dwelling outpatients with SZ.

Introduction: Deficits in theory of mind (ToM) can vary depending on the predominant schizophrenia symptoms, and though most neurocognitive functions are involved in ToM, all may not be associated with the same symptoms. With consideration to the relationships between symptoms, neurocognition and ToM, the aim of the present study is to identify the neurocognitive functions influencing ToM capacities according to symptomatic profile.
Methods: The study is based on a sample of 124 adults with schizophrenia from a French national cohort.

Chronic hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection often leads to fibrosis and chronic hepatitis, then cirrhosis and ultimately hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). The processes of the HVC life cycle involve intimate interactions between viral and host cell proteins and lipid metabolism. However, the molecules and mechanisms involved in this tripartite interaction remain poorly understood.

Elbow extension palsy is generally well tolerated, because when standing up, it is alleviated by gravity. In the case of trunk paralysis or brachial plexus palsy, standing is possible, thus the restoration of active elbow extension improves the hand's positioning above the shoulder, and allows the elbow to be locked in extension, which is necessary during certain activities such as cycling. In these palsy cases, the triceps brachii will be reinnervated by nerve transfers if surgery is performed early enough before irreversible atrophy of the effector muscle sets in.

This article proposes to investigate how Sleep disorders have been conceptualized within the DSM-5 through symptom network analysis of the diagnostic criteria of the "Sleep-Wake Disorders" section in the DSM-5. We hypothesize that the analysis of the most central symptoms will allow us to better analyze the position of Sleep disorders in Mental disorders. We thus i) extracted the symptoms of the DSM-5 diagnostic criteria of Sleep-Wake disorders, ii) built the Sleep-Wake disorder DSM-5 network representation, and iii) quantified its structure at local and global levels using classical symptom network analysis.

The third edition of the International Classification of Sleep Disorders (ICSD-3) is the authoritative clinical text for the diagnosis of sleep disorders. An important issue of sleep nosology is to better understand the relationship between symptoms found in conventional diagnostic manuals and to compare classifications. Nevertheless, to our knowledge, there is no specific exhaustive work on the general structure of the networks of symptoms of sleep disorders as described in diagnostic manuals.

The quantification of low abundant proteins in complex matrices by liquid chromatography coupled to tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS) remains challenging. A measurement procedure based on optimized antibody-free sample preparation and isotope dilution coupled to LC-MS/MS was developed to quantify procalcitonin (PCT) in human serum at sub-microgram per liter level. A combination of sodium deoxycholate-assisted protein precipitation with acetonitrile, solid-phase extraction, and trypsin digestion assisted with Tween-20 enhanced the method sensitivity.

Several surgical methods exist for the treatment of osteochondral lesions of the femoral head. They include osteochondral allograft transfer, femoral osteotomy, microfracture, autologous chondrocyte implantation, and hip arthroplasty. Mosaicplasty is a surgical method in which cylindrical plugs of bone and cartilage are transferred from a donor site to tunnels drilled into the bone and cartilage defects.

Musculoskeletal stromal cells' (MSCs') metabolism impacts cell differentiation as well as immune function. During osteogenic and adipogenic differentiation, BM-MSCs show a preference for glycolysis during proliferation but shift to an oxidative phosphorylation (OxPhos)-dependent metabolism. The MSC immunoregulatory fate is achieved with cell polarization, and the result is sustained production of immunoregulatory molecules (including PGE2, HGF, IL1RA, IL6, IL8, IDO activity) in response to inflammatory stimuli.
