The Société de Pathologie Infectieuse de Langue Française released in 2024 a new national recommendation for clinical practice on the prevention and management of varicella zoster virus (VZV) infection during pregnancy and the perinatal period. The previous recommendation was issued in 1998, at a time of anti-VZV immunoglobulins shortage; it has hence become obsolete. This recommendation is a formalized expert consensus focusing on infectious diseases management; it is drawn up by a multidisciplinary working group (infectiologists, obstetricians, pediatricians, microbiologists, midwives, hygienists).

There is increasing evidence that geogenic (Earth-derived) particles can induce adverse biological effects upon inhalation, though there is high variability in particle bioreactivity that is associated with particle source and physicochemical properties. In this study, we investigated physicochemical properties and biological reactivity of volcanic ash from the April 2021 eruption of La Soufrière volcano, St.

Background/aims: Alcohol represents a leading burden of disease worldwide, including alcohol use disorder (AUD) and alcohol-related liver disease (ALD). We aim to assess the global burden of AUD, ALD, and alcohol-attributable primary liver cancer between 2000-2021.
Methods: We registered the global and regional trends of AUD, ALD, and alcohol-related liver cancer using data from the Global Burden of Disease 2021 Study, the largest and most up-to-date global epidemiology database.

Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a common comorbidity in kidney transplant recipients, representing a significant proportion of the candidate pool. Post-kidney transplantation management of T2D remains challenging, leading to inferior long-term outcomes compared to non-diabetic recipients. This study aimed to assess the association between Homeostatic Model Assessment 2 (HOMA2) derived insulin resistance and beta-cell function on kidney graft outcomes in T2D kidney transplant recipients.

Background: The Bari-SolidAct randomized controlled trial compared baricitinib with placebo in patients with severe COVID-19. A post hoc analysis revealed a higher incidence of serious adverse events (SAEs) among SARS-CoV-2-vaccinated participants who had received baricitinib. This sub-study aimed to investigate whether vaccination influences the safety profile of baricitinib in patients with severe COVID-19.

Objective: The aim was to assess the current management and follow-up of obstetric anal sphincter injuries in maternity wards in France at two levels: the patient's and the care unit level.
Study Design: We carried out an evaluation of professional practices in all French maternity hospitals by sending a questionnaire that covered five areas: (i) general information about the hospital, (ii) immediate management of OASIS and postpartum care, (iii) patient follow up, (iv) management of a subsequent pregnancy, and (v) training of health professionals.
Results: During this period, 102 answers (22.

Chimeric antigen receptor (CAR)-T-cell therapy has revolutionized cellular immunotherapy, demonstrating remarkable efficacy in hematological cancers. However, its application in solid tumors faces significant challenges, including limited T-cell infiltration and tumor-induced immunosuppression. Given the prominent role of macrophages in the tumor microenvironment, their phenotypic plasticity and inherent antitumor properties, such as phagocytosis, offer a promising avenue for therapeutic intervention.

Background: The impact of disease activity and treatment on fertility outcomes in patients with spondyloarthritis (SpA) has been little explored. This study aimed to describe median time to pregnancy (TTP) in women with SpA and the factors influencing TTP in this population.
Methods: This prospective observational multicentre (63 centres) French cohort (GR2 study-NCT02450396) included consecutive women with a diagnosis of SpA (according to their rheumatologist) who wanted to become pregnant between 2015 and 2021.

Stiffness following total knee replacement is defined as >15° flexion contracture and/or flexion <75° or, for other authors, arc of motion <70° or 45° or 50°. Alternatively, it could be defined as a range of motion less than the patient needs in order to be able to do what they wish. The first step in management is to determine the causes: preoperative (history of stiffness, patient-related risk factors, etc.

Colloidal semiconductor nanocrystals are promising materials for classical and quantum light sources due to their efficient photoluminescence (PL) and versatile chemistry. While visible emitters are well-established, excellent (near-infrared) sources are still being pursued. We present the first comprehensive analysis of low-temperature PL from two-dimensional (2D) PbS nanoplatelets (NPLs).

Introduction: Osteoarticular infections (OAI) after prosthetic surgery have serious functional and economic consequences. Rapid tests for alpha-defensin (TAD) and leukocyte esterase (TLE) are two intra-articular markers involved in the diagnosis of OAIs. TLE cannot be applied in the presence of blood unless centrifugation is used, but the rate of "non-application" of the test for this reason is unknown in complex microbiological situations (discordant or negative puncture, ongoing antibiotic treatment).

Background And Objectives: Sleep dysfunction is common in patients with neurodegenerative disorders; however, its neural underpinnings remain poorly characterized in genetic frontotemporal dementia (FTD). Hypothalamic nuclei important for sleep regulation may be related to this dysfunction. Thus, we examined changes in hypothalamic structure across the lifespan in patients with genetic FTD and whether these changes related to sleep dysfunction.

Increased protein O-linked β-N-acetylglucosaminylation (O-GlcNAcylation) has emerged as a hallmark of mammalian cell activation, contributing to Warburg-like metabolic rewiring allowing the acquisition of new functionalities. Recent advances indicate that O-GlcNAcylation promotes the activity of transcriptional regulators driving gene expression reprogramming. This may offer new therapeutic opportunities in a broad spectrum of pathological conditions.
