OSBP ligands from the ORPphilin family are chemically complex natural products with promising anticancer properties. Here, we describe macarangin B, a natural racemic flavonoid selective for OSBP, which stands out from other ORPphilins due to its structural simplicity and distinct biological activity. Using a bioinspired strategy, we synthesized both (,,) and (,,)-macarangin B enantiomers, enabling us to study their interaction with OSBP based on their unique optical properties.

In this paper, we explore the effect of musical expertise on whistled word perception by naive listeners. In whistled words of nontonal languages, vowels are transposed to relatively stable pitches, while consonants are translated into pitch movements or interruptions. Previous behavioral studies have demonstrated that naive listeners can categorize isolated consonants, vowels, and words well over chance.

Fish telomere lengths vary significantly across the numerous species, implicating diverse life strategies and environmental adaptations. Zebrafish have telomere dynamics that are comparable to humans and are emerging as a key model in which to unravel the systemic effects of telomere shortening on aging and interorgan communication. Here, we discuss zebrafish telomere biology, focusing on the organismal impact of telomere attrition beyond cellular senescence, with particular emphasis on how telomeric shortening in specific tissues can unleash widespread organ dysfunction and disease.

Background: A fundamental property of cancer cells is their metabolic reprogramming, allowing them to increase glucose uptake and glycolysis. Using a rat colon adenocarcinoma model, we previously showed that blood levels of free methylglyoxal (MG), a side-product of glycolysis, remained normal in animals grafted with a non-growing tumor cell clone, while MG levels were significantly increased and positively correlated with tumor growth in animals grafted with a tumorigenic cell clone issued from the same tumor.

Methods: We measured free MG in the blood of cancerous non-diabetic patients and compared the results to healthy subjects and non-cancerous diabetic patients.

Engineered packaging cell line for the enhanced production of baboon-enveloped retroviral vectors.

The baboon endogenous retrovirus (BaEV) glycoprotein is superior to the commonly used vesicular stomatitis virus glycoprotein (VSVg) for retroviral gene transfer into resting hematopoietic stem cells and lymphocyte populations. The derivative BaEVRLess (lacking the R domain) produces higher viral titers compared with wild-type BaEV, but vector production is impaired by syncytia formation and cell death of the HEK293T cells due to the high fusogenic activity of the glycoprotein. This lowers viral titers, leads to increased batch-to-batch variability, and impedes the establishment of stable packaging cell lines essential for the economical production of viral supernatants.

The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of the virtual reality device on the evolution of motivation, and motor, functional and kinematic parameters of the upper limb in children with cerebral palsy. Twenty children were randomly assigned in VR and control groups. VR group scored higher than the control group in the Movement Assessment Battery for Children - Second Edition (MABC-2; standardized motor skills test), exhibited an increased range of motion, and showed improved results in various movement parameters in the interaction with the 3D virtual space.
