A theory is developed that allows one to model the velocity field of acoustic microstreaming produced by nonspherical oscillations of an acoustically driven gas bubble. It is assumed that some of the bubble oscillation modes are excited parametrically and hence can oscillate at frequencies different from the driving frequency. Analytical solutions are derived in terms of complex amplitudes of oscillation modes, which means that the mode amplitudes are assumed to be known and serve as input data when the velocity field of acoustic microstreaming is calculated.

Understanding and controlling the formation of nanoparticles at the surface of functional oxide supports is critical for tuning activity and stability for catalytic and energy conversion applications. Here, we use a latest generation environmental transmission electron microscope to follow the exsolution of individual nanoparticles at the surface of perovskite oxides, with ultrahigh spatial and temporal resolution. Qualitative and quantitative analysis of the data reveals the atomic scale processes that underpin the formation of the socketed, strain-inducing interface that confers exsolved particles their exceptional stability and reactivity.

Motor cortical beta activity (13-30 Hz) is a hallmark signature of healthy and pathological movement, but its behavioural relevance remains unclear. Using high-precision magnetoencephalography (MEG), we show that during the classical event-related desynchronisation (ERD) and event-related synchronisation (ERS) periods, motor cortical beta activity in individual trials (n > 12,000) is dominated by high amplitude, transient, and infrequent bursts. Beta burst probability closely matched the trial-averaged beta amplitude in both the pre- and post-movement periods, but individual bursts were spatially more focal than the classical ERS peak.

[The radiolabeled blood cell: Finding a legal qualification].

Ann Pharm Fr

January 2020

Laboratoire parcours de santé systémique (P2S), université Joseph-Fourrier, 69372 Grenoble, France.

Radiolabelling of blood cells is a technique commonly used as a diagnostic tool in nuclear medicine; it has never been legally defined. This lack of legal status is a factor of uncertainty for both patients and health care professionals. The aim of this work was to identify what could be the legal nature of the radiolabelled blood cells by comparing their constitutive elements to the various existing legal categories applicable, according to the law applicable to living organisms as well as the regulations for other health products.

Sulcal organization in the medial frontal cortex provides insights into primate brain evolution.

Nat Commun

July 2019

Montreal Neurological Institute, Department of Neurology and Neurosurgery and Department of Psychology, McGill University, Montreal, QC, H3A 2B4, Canada.

Although the relative expansion of the frontal cortex in primate evolution is generally accepted, the nature of the human uniqueness, if any, and between-species anatomo-functional comparisons of the frontal areas remain controversial. To provide a novel interpretation of the evolution of primate brains, sulcal morphological variability of the medial frontal cortex was assessed in Old World monkeys (macaque/baboon) and Hominoidea (chimpanzee/human). We show that both Hominoidea possess a paracingulate sulcus, which was previously thought to be unique to the human brain and linked to higher cognitive functions, such as mentalizing.

Relative humidity (RH) changes are a natural environmental effect that forces organic materials to a constant cycle of achieving equilibrium. The present work is part of an ongoing research based on the hypothesis that the inevitable deleterious effects of the RH natural cycle may be prevented or minimized if a deformation threshold is assigned to each monitored endangered object prior to exposure to structural damage. In this paper the characterization of the behavior of a softwood sample (1.

Transport coefficients of correlated electron systems are often useful for mapping hidden phases with distinct symmetries. Here we report a transport signature of spontaneous symmetry breaking in the magnetic Weyl semimetal cerium-aluminum-germanium (CeAlGe) system in the form of singular angular magnetoresistance (SAMR). This angular response exceeding 1000% per radian is confined along the high-symmetry axes with a full width at half maximum reaching less than 1° and is tunable via isoelectronic partial substitution of silicon for germanium.
