The SARS-CoV-2 main protease (M or Nsp5) is critical for production of viral proteins during infection and, like many viral proteases, also targets host proteins to subvert their cellular functions. Here, we show that the human tRNA methyltransferase TRMT1 is recognized and cleaved by SARS-CoV-2 M. TRMT1 installs the ,-dimethylguanosine (m2,2G) modification on mammalian tRNAs, which promotes cellular protein synthesis and redox homeostasis.

Nitrogen-containing organic compounds (NOCs) in frost serve as a critical pathway for atmospheric nitrogen deposition, significantly impacting the biogeochemical cycles of nitrogen. However, the molecular characteristics of NOCs in frost and their deposition fluxes are scarcely studied. In this work, frost samples, collected in rural Northeast China in the winter of 2023, were analyzed using nontargeted ultrahigh performance liquid chromatography-orbitrap mass spectrometry (UHPLC-Orbitrap MS) to reveal their content in nitrogen-containing organic compounds (NOCs) and explore their wet deposition fluxes.

Some viruses can suppress superinfections of their host cells by related or different virus species. The phenomenon of superinfection exclusion can be caused by inhibiting virus attachment, receptor binding and entry, by replication interference, or competition for host cell resources. Blocking attachment and entry not only prevents unproductive double infections but also stops newly produced virions from re-entering the cell post-exocytosis.

Using next-generation sequencing data, the complete mitogenomes of six species from the genus were assembled. This study explores the mitochondrial genomes of species, among them the five species from the complex, comparing them with each other and with other species from Dolichoderinae subfamily to understand their evolutionary relationships and evolution. mitochondrial genomes contain the typical set of 13 protein-coding genes, two ribosomal RNA genes, 22 transfer RNAs, and the A + T-rich control region.

The nuclear envelope (NE), a protective membrane bordering the nucleus, is composed of highly specialized proteins that are indispensable for normal cellular activity. Lamina-associated polypeptide 1 (LAP1) is a NE protein whose functions are just beginning to be unveiled. The fact that mutations causing LAP1 deficiency are extremely rare and pathogenic is indicative of its paramount importance to preserving human health, anticipating that LAP1 might have a multifaceted role in the cell.

Resting natural killer (NK) cells display immediate effector functions after recognizing transformed or infected cells. The environmental nutrients and metabolic requirements to sustain these functions are not fully understood. Based on the expectile loss function and the adaptive LASSO penalty, the paper proposes and studies the estimation methods for the accelerated failure time (AFT) model. In this approach, we need to estimate the survival function of the censoring variable by the Kaplan-Meier estimator. The AFT model parameters are first estimated by the expectile method and afterwards, when the number of explanatory variables can be large, by the adaptive LASSO expectile method which directly carries out the automatic selection of variables.

LiCoPO and LiNiPO phosphate pigments have colorations very close to the primary colors of the subtractive system: magenta and yellow, respectively. These two pigments are therefore of great interest in a variety of applications, including e-reader devices. Synchrotron microbeam radiotherapy (MRT), which has entered the clinical transfer phase, requires the development of appropriate quality assurance (QA) tools due to very high dose rates and spatial hyperfractionation. A microstrip plastic scintillating detector system with associated modules was proposed in the context of real-time MRT QA. A prototype of such a system with 105 scintillating microstrips was developed and tested under MRT conditions.

Current temporal studies of DNA replication are either low-resolution or require complex cell synchronisation and/or sorting procedures. Here we introduce Nanotiming, a single-molecule, nanopore sequencing-based method producing high-resolution, telomere-to-telomere replication timing (RT) profiles of eukaryotic genomes by interrogating changes in intracellular dTTP concentration during S phase through competition with its analogue bromodeoxyuridine triphosphate (BrdUTP) for incorporation into replicating DNA. This solely demands the labelling of asynchronously growing cells with an innocuous dose of BrdU during one doubling time followed by BrdU quantification along nanopore reads.
