Article Synopsis
  • - Ascochyta rabiei is responsible for causing Ascochyta blight disease on various Cicer species, including C. arietinum and C. bijugum, with field studies revealing significant disease incidences of 32% and 37.3%, respectively, during June 2022 surveys in Turkey.
  • - During these surveys, concentric ring-shaped lesions were noted on infected plants, while other Cicer species did not show any disease symptoms, indicating specific susceptibility among the species observed.
  • - Laboratory analysis of diseased plant parts led to the successful isolation of fungal strains, with sequencing showing that all 40 isolates were confirmed as belonging to the same species, with certain isolates exhibiting different mating types.

Background: This study aims to determine the differences between the clinical and radiological results of patients based on Karlstrom-Olerud Scoring System who cannot be included in any classification for floating knee injuries and to seek an answer to the question of whether a new classification is needed.

Material And Methods: Seventy patients with floating knee injuries treated in our clinic were retrospectively analyzed between 2008 and 2019 in the study. The results of fractures that classifiable and unclassifiable according to the Fraser, Blake and McBryde classifications were statistically compared based on the Karlstrom-Olerud criteria.

Effects of polystyrene nanoparticles on the microbiota and functional diversity of enzymes in soil.

Environ Sci Eur

May 2018

1Depart. Soil Science, Faculty of Regional and Environmental Science, University of Trier, Behringstraße 21, 54296 Trier, Germany.

Background: The increasing production of nanoplastics and the fragmentation of microplastics into smaller particles suggest a plausible yet unclear hazard in the natural environment, such as soil. We investigated the short-term effects (28 days) of polystyrene nanoparticles (PS-NPs) on the activity and biomass of soil microbiota, and the functional diversity of soil enzymes at environmental relevant low levels in an incubation experiment.

Results: Our results showed a significant decrease in microbial biomass in treatments of 100 and 1000 ng PS-NP g DM throughout the incubation period.

Evaluation of ventricular repolarization features with Tp-e, Tp-e/QTc, JTc and JTd during electroconvulsive therapy.

J Electrocardiol

March 2019

Üniversite Bulvarı, Gaziantep Üniversitesi Şahinbey Araştırma ve Uygulama Hastanesi, Department of Cardiology, 27310 Şehitkamil, Gaziantep, Turkey.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of electrical stimulation transmitted through the body during electroconvulsive therapy on traditional and relatively new ventricular repolarization parameters (Rate corrected QT interval (QTc), QT dispersion (QTd), rate corrected JT interval (JTc), JT dispersion (JTd), T-peak to T-end interval (Tp-e) and Tp-e/QTc ratio) under propofol anaesthesia.

Methods: Twenty-two patients (aged 18-50 years) who were each scheduled for ECT for major depression, bipolar disorder or schizophrenia enrolled to the study. Electrocardiography (ECG) recordings were obtained before anaesthesia and within 3-5 min after electrical stimulus of ECT for measurements.

This study aimed to investigate whether functional variants of endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) gene play any role in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) ethiopathogenesis and treatment in the Turkish population. Because, eNOS variants are responsible for alteration of the NO level in plasma, by reducing/increasing the endothelial NO synthesis. In the study, two eNOS gene variants (G894T and intron 4 VNTR A/B) were examined at extracted DNAs from 65 peripheral blood cell of RA patients.

The extent of consensus (or the lack thereof) among experts in emerging fields of innovation can serve as antecedents of scientific, societal, investor and stakeholder synergy or conflict. Naturally, how we measure consensus is of great importance to science and technology strategic foresight. The Delphi methodology is a widely used anonymous survey technique to evaluate consensus among a panel of experts.

Septoria-like pathogens causing leaf and fruit spot of pistachio.

IMA Fungus

December 2013

Cukurova University, Faculty of Agriculture, Department of Plant Protection, Adana, Turkey.

Several species of Septoria are associated with leaf and fruit spot of pistachio (Pistacia vera), though their identity has always been confused, making identification problematic. The present study elucidates the taxonomy of the Septoria spp. associated with pistachio, and distinguishes four species associated with this host genus.

Biological processes are fundamentally driven by complex interactions between biomolecules. Integrated high-throughput omics studies enable multifaceted views of cells, organisms, or their communities. With the advent of new post-genomics technologies, omics studies are becoming increasingly prevalent; yet the full impact of these studies can only be realized through data harmonization, sharing, meta-analysis, and integrated research.

This study was performed to determine the distribution of Candida species isolated from the blood cultures of the patients hospitalized in our hospital and to investigate their antifungal susceptibility. Candida strains were identified at species level by using classical methods and API ID 32C (bioMerieux, France) identification kits. The susceptibility of the strains to amphotericin B, fluconazole, voriconazole, and caspofungin was evaluated by using the reference broth microdilution method in document M27-A3 of the Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute.

Synergy tests by E test and checkerboard methods of antimicrobial combinations against Brucella melitensis.

J Clin Microbiol

January 2005

Gaziantep University Medical Faculty, Department of Microbiology and Clinical Microbiology, Universite Bulvari, 27310 Gaziantep, Turkey.

Two different synergy testing methods, the checkerboard and the E test methods, were used to compare the in vitro efficacies of various antimicrobial combinations against 16 Brucella melitensis strains isolated from blood cultures. The rate of agreement of the E test and checkerboard methods was found to be 55%. The most concordant results were found for the streptomycin-doxycycline combination in 12 (75%) tests, in which four strains showed synergistic activity by E test and antagonistic activity by the checkerboard method and in which one strain showed antagonistic activity by both methods.

Purpose: To determine the changes of multiple hemodynamic parameters and pulse wave contour in pure aortic regurgitation (AR) and to present a new indicator of the severity of AR (shrink ratio of proximal common carotid artery).

Material And Methods: The sonograms of 42 patients (31 M, 11 F; 16-68 years) with pure AR and 18 control subjects (15 M, 3 F; 20-47 years) were assessed for velocities and indices, and change of pulse wave contour (bisferious pattern, zero level and retrograde diastolic flow) in each carotid artery. Shrink ratio (maximum diameter-minimum diameter/maximum diameter) of each proximal common carotid artery was calculated.
