Folie à deux - Thrombosis and Infections Although infections are not represented in the Revised Geneva or Wells score, they increase the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) similarly to the known risk factors (immobilization, major surgery, active neoplasia). This increased risk of VTE can persist for six to twelve months after infection; moreover, the more severe the infection, the higher the risk of VTE may be. In addition to VTEs, infections can promote arterial thromboembolism.

Oral mucoceles are cystic changes in the minor salivary glands caused by traumatic damage to the salivary gland ducts or their obstruction with subsequent salivary congestion. In extravasation mucocele, saliva leaks from the ruptured duct into the surrounding tissue and causes a local inflammatory reaction. Thus, histopathologically, granulation tissue is seen around the salivary fluid, but no epithelial lining.

The SSRMP recommendations on reference dosimetry in kilovolt beams as used in radiation therapy were revised to establish current practice in Switzerland. The recommendations specify the dosimetry formalism, reference class dosimeter systems and conditions used for the calibration of low and medium energy x-ray beams. Practical guidance is provided on the determination of the beam quality specifier and all corrections required for converting instrument readings to absorbed dose to water.

Maxillofacial tumours cover a broad spectrum of lesions, including neoplasms, hamartomatous changes and developmental disorders. Since the beginning of 2022, a beta version of the 5th edition of the WHO classification for head and neck tumours has been available online, and a print version is expected to be published in mid-2023. From a conceptual point of view, little has been changed compared to the 4th edition; the sort order of lesions is more rigorously arranged according to benign and malignant behaviour and identical tumour types are no longer described redundantly in different chapters depending on their location.

Integration of the Insured Person's Perspective in the Quality Assessment of Medical Evaluations In the current practice of medical work disability evaluations and other pension assessments, insured persons in Switzerland lack the possibility to routinely provide feedback on the extent to which they felt treated with dignity and respect by medical experts, which, according to occasional complaints, does not always seem to be the case. In order to be able to systematically capture such aspects of interactive fairness, we developed a questionnaire, the Basel Fairness Questionnaire (BFQ). The BFQ contains 30 statements such as «The reviewer listened to me.

The treatment of peripheral nerve pathologies requires a rapid and precise diagnosis. However, the correct identification of nerve pathologies is often difficult and valuable time is lost in the process. In this position paper of the German-Speaking Group for Microsurgery of Peripheral Nerves and Vessels (DAM), we describe the current evidence for various perioperative diagnostics for the detection of traumatic peripheral nerve lesions or compression syndromes.

In settings with high tuberculosis (TB) endemicity, distinct genotypes of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) often differ in prevalence. However, the factors leading to these differences remain poorly understood. Here we studied the MTBC population in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania over a six-year period, using 1,082 unique patient-derived MTBC whole-genome sequences (WGS) and associated clinical data.

Background: A decade ago, the iopromide-paclitaxel coated balloon (iPCB) was added to the cardiologist's toolbox to initially treat in-stent restenosis followed by the treatment of de novo coronary lesions. In the meantime, DES technologies have been substantially improved to address in-stent restenosis and thrombosis, and shortened anti-platelet therapy. Recently, sirolimus-coated balloon catheters (SCB) have emerged to provide an alternative drug to combat restenosis.

The success of immuno-oncology treatments promises long-term cancer remission for an increasing number of patients. The response to checkpoint inhibitor drugs has shown a correlation with the presence of immune cells in the tumor and tumor microenvironment. An in-depth understanding of the spatial localization of immune cells is therefore critical for understanding the tumor's immune landscape and predicting drug response.

The proportion of patients in the population beyond the 7th decade of life is increasing worldwide, especially in highly developed countries. Consequently, there is also an increasing need for complex lower extremity reconstructions after trauma, tumors, or infections in this age group. The reconstruction of soft tissue defects of the lower extremity should be performed according to the principle of the plastic-reconstructive ladder or elevator.

Melkersson-Rosenthal syndrome (MRS) is a rare disease and is characterised by the classic triad of cheilitis granulomatosa, lingua plicata and peripheral facia- lis paresis. These symptoms rarely manifest themselves all at the same time, often only one of these clinical signs appears. In the literature, the umbrella term orofacial granulomatosis (OFG) is also used, which covers the occurrence of granulomas in the maxillofacial region without associated systemic diseases.
