Folie à deux - Thrombosis and Infections Although infections are not represented in the Revised Geneva or Wells score, they increase the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) similarly to the known risk factors (immobilization, major surgery, active neoplasia). This increased risk of VTE can persist for six to twelve months after infection; moreover, the more severe the infection, the higher the risk of VTE may be. [Oral retention and extravasation mucoceles of the minor salivary glands - more common than you might think!].

June 2023

Pathologie, Institut für Medizinische Genetik und Pathologie, Universitätsspital Basel, Universität Basel, Basel, Schweiz.

Oral mucoceles are cystic changes in the minor salivary glands caused by traumatic damage to the salivary gland ducts or their obstruction with subsequent salivary congestion. From a conceptual point of view, little has been changed compared to the 4th edition; the sort order of lesions is more rigorously arranged according to benign and malignant behaviour and identical tumour types are no longer described redundantly in different chapters depending on their location.

Integration of the Insured Person's Perspective in the Quality Assessment of Medical Evaluations In the current practice of medical work disability evaluations and other pension assessments, insured persons in Switzerland lack the possibility to routinely provide feedback on the extent to which they felt treated with dignity and respect by medical experts, which, according to occasional complaints, does not always seem to be the case. In order to be able to systematically capture such aspects of interactive fairness, we developed a questionnaire, the Basel Fairness Questionnaire (BFQ). The BFQ contains 30 statements such as «The reviewer listened to me.

Background: A decade ago, the iopromide-paclitaxel coated balloon (iPCB) was added to the cardiologist's toolbox to initially treat in-stent restenosis followed by the treatment of de novo coronary lesions. In the meantime, DES technologies have been substantially improved to address in-stent restenosis and thrombosis, and shortened anti-platelet therapy. Recently, sirolimus-coated balloon catheters (SCB) have emerged to provide an alternative drug to combat restenosis.

The success of immuno-oncology treatments promises long-term cancer remission for an increasing number of patients. The response to checkpoint inhibitor drugs has shown a correlation with the presence of immune cells in the tumor and tumor microenvironment. An in-depth understanding of the spatial localization of immune cells is therefore critical for understanding the tumor's immune landscape and predicting drug response.
