K^{+}K^{-} pairs may be produced in photonuclear collisions, either from the decays of photoproduced ϕ(1020) mesons or directly as nonresonant K^{+}K^{-} pairs. Measurements of K^{+}K^{-} photoproduction probe the couplings between the ϕ(1020) and charged kaons with photons and nuclear targets. The kaon-proton scattering occurs at energies far above those available elsewhere.

A search for exotic decays of the Higgs boson () with a mass of 125 to a pair of light pseudoscalars is performed in final states where one pseudoscalar decays to two quarks and the other to a pair of muons or leptons. A data sample of proton-proton collisions at corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 138 recorded with the CMS detector is analyzed. No statistically significant excess is observed over the standard model backgrounds.

is a non-motile Gram-positive, catalase-negative cocci, a part of group D . In the literature, is documented as a causative agent of infective endocarditis, demonstrated by blood cultures in only four other cases, representing an extremely rare circumstance. Here, we describe a case of infective endocarditis due to in a young patient known with a bicuspid aortic valve and associated with a sigmoid precancerous polyp.

Background: The promotion of the latest medicines produced by the pharmaceutical industry is an important issue both from an ethical point of view (the level of accessibility, the way research is carried out) and from the point of view of marketing and especially from the lobbying issues raised.
Areas Of Uncertainty: The ethical dilemmas raised by the promotion of new drugs revolve between the need to discover new molecules important for treating a wide range of diseases and the need to establish a battery of ethical rules, absolutely necessary for regulations in the field to be compliant with all ethical principles.
Data Sources: A literature search was conducted through PubMed, MEDLINE, Plus, Scopus, and Web of Science (2015-2023) using combinations of keywords, including drugs, medical publicity, and pharma marketing plus ethical dilemma.

Background: Patients with schizophrenia often face challenges related to cognitive function, affecting their daily functioning and overall quality of life. The choice of antipsychotic treatment may play a crucial role in determining cognitive outcomes.
Study Question: Our study aimed to investigate whether there was a difference in cognitive ability between the patients with schizophrenia receiving oral antipsychotics (OAP) versus long-acting injectable antipsychotics (LAI-APs).

: Neuroimaging reveals a link between psychiatric conditions and brain structural-functional changes, prompting a paradigm shift in viewing schizophrenia as a neurodevelopmental disorder. This study aims to identify and compare structural brain changes found during the first schizophrenia episode with those found after more than 5 years of illness. : This prospective study involved 149 participants enrolled between 1 January 2019 and 31 December 2021.

Background And Aims: Intrathecal bupivacaine is used for anaesthesia and analgesia but is associated with hypotension. Ropivacaine is an alternative drug that may have fewer cardiotoxic and neurotoxic events. This meta-analysis investigated whether intrathecal ropivacaine is associated with reduced hypotension as compared to bupivacaine.

Resveratrol is a natural phenolic compound with known benefits against neurodegeneration. We analyzed in vitro the protective mechanisms of resveratrol against the proinflammatory monomeric C-reactive protein (mCRP). mCRP increases the risk of AD after stroke and we previously demonstrated that intracerebral mCRP induces AD-like dementia in mice.

Introduction: Untreated gout is characterised by monosodium urate (MSU) crystal accumulation responsible for recurrent flares that are commonly separated by asymptomatic phases. Both phases are inflammatory conditions of variable intensity. Gout flares are self-limited inflammatory reactions involving multiple mediators.

However, uncertainty exists whether early referral (ER) to nephrological care or an optimal dialysis start impacts patient outcome after dialysis initiation. We determined the effect of ER and suboptimal dialysis start on the 3-year mortality and hospitalizations after dialysis initiation.

The correct interpretation of magnetic properties in the weak-exchange regime has remained a challenging task for several decades. In this regime, the effective exchange interaction between local spins is quite weak, of the same order of magnitude or smaller than the various anisotropic terms, which generates a complex set of levels characterized by spin mixing. Although the model multispin Hamiltonian in the absence of local orbital momentum, , is considered good enough to map the experimental energies at zero field and in the strong-exchange limit, theoretical works pointed out limitations of this simple model.

Despite the implementation of global iodine supplementation initiatives in the past decade, the problem of iodine deficiency persists as a significant public health concern in numerous countries. Although cretinism is now rare in developed countries, iodine deficiency can still lead to less severe cognitive deficits, which can negatively impact academic achievement, intellectual capacity, and work productivity. There is a scarcity of studies regarding the status of Cyprus, and the global database does not have any information pertaining to the prevalence of iodine deficiency in Cyprus.

Single umbilical artery (SUA) is considered the most common abnormality of the umbilical artery. The objective of the study was to evaluate the perinatal prognosis of fetuses with SUA and to describe the associated malformations. The significance of the study is represented by examining whether our findings are in correlation with data already described.

The measurement of Z boson production is presented as a method to determine the integrated luminosity of CMS data sets. The analysis uses proton-proton collision data, recorded by the CMS experiment at the CERN LHC in 2017 at a center-of-mass energy of 13. Events with Z bosons decaying into a pair of muons are selected.

Chitosan nanocoatings (thickness range of 120-540 nm) were produced on glass, zinc and silicon substrates with dip-coating and spin coating techniques to study their pH-dependent wetting and swelling behaviour. The coatings were -acetylated with the methanolic solution of acetic anhydride to increase the degree of acetylation from 36 % to 100 % (according to ATR-FTIR studies). The measured contact angles of Britton-Robinson (BR) buffer solutions (pH 6.

The tumor microenvironment (TME) is a dynamic pseudoorgan that shapes the development and progression of cancers. It is a complex ecosystem shaped by interactions between tumor and stromal cells. Although the traditional focus has been on the paracrine communication mediated by protein messengers, recent attention has turned to the metabolic secretome in tumors.

Objective: Carotid resection for head and neck cancer is rare, and serious complications may arise since such cancer is frequently detected in advanced stages. The objective is to describe nine cases of carotid artery resection and reconstruction due to tumor invasion.
Methods: The clinical records of nine patients who underwent carotid resection and reconstruction at our hospital were retrospectively reviewed.
