Objective: Air pollution is a global public health issue, with particulate matter (PM) being the pollutant with the greatest impact on health. The main objective of this article was to estimate the impact of mortality attributable to particulate pollution in the city of Valencia during the period 2015-2017.
Methods: The Health Impact Assessment (HIA) methodology from the Aphekom project was used.
Background: The coexistence of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is uncommon. Data on the impact of HIV on IBD course and its management is scarce.
Aim: To describe the IBD phenotype, therapeutic requirements and prevalence of opportunistic infections (OI) in IBD patients with a coexistent HIV infection.

Background: The taxonomy of the hymenopteran parasitoid subfamily Charipinae (Hymenoptera: Cynipoidea: Figitidae) has, until recently, been in a state of chaos. While this situation has improved significantly in recent years, most of the efforts were focused on morphological data of typically old specimens. Here, we present the first integrative approach to describe the diversity of the genus Förster, 1869 from north-western Europe.

Background: The establishment of breastfeeding may sometimes be stressful. We aimed to analyze the sense of coherence in lactating women to determine the general resistance resources during lactation and the professional interventions that promote a high sense of coherence.
Methods: A search of studies in English, Spanish, or Portuguese on lactating women's sense of coherence was carried out in PubMed, PsycINFO, ScienceDirect, and CINAH databases published between May and November 2022.

Laguna Verde's dome-shaped structures are distinctive formations within the Central Andes, displaying unique geomicrobiological features. This study represents a pioneering investigation into these structures, assessing their formation, associated taxa, and ecological significance. Through a multifaceted approach that includes chemical analysis of the water body, multiscale characterization of the domes, and analysis of the associated microorganisms, we reveal the complex interplay between geology and biology in this extreme environment.

Objective: The Hereditary Haemorrhagic Telangiectasia (HHT) is a low prevalence disease which presents heterogeneous signs and symptoms and just few population-based epidemiological studies are available. The aims of this paper were to describe the sociodemographic characteristics of people affected by HHT in the Valencian Region (VR), to determine its prevalence and mortality rate, and to analyse the sources of recruitment and verification tests used by the Rare Diseases Information System of the VR (SIER-CV).
Methods: Cross-sectional observational epidemiological study of HHT prevalent cases between 2010-2019 in SIER-CV was performed.

Acute heart failure (AHF) is a complex clinical syndrome that requires prompt diagnosis, risk stratification and effective treatment strategies to reduce morbidity and mortality. Biomarkers are playing an increasingly important role in this process, offering valuable insights into the underlying pathophysiology and facilitating personalised patient management. This review summarises the significance of various biomarkers in the context of AHF, with a focus on their clinical applications to stratify risk and potential for guiding therapy choices.

Introduction: In addition to an increased risk of thromboembolic complications, patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) are at risk for vascular events. Consequently, complete vascular protection is warranted in these patients.
Areas Covered: A narrative search was conducted on PubMed (MEDLINE), using the MeSH terms [Rivaroxaban] + [Atrial fibrillation] + [Cardiovascular] + [Vascular] + [Treatment].
Objective: Mercury (Hg) is a toxic metal, and dietary exposure is the main one in humans, especially fish consumption. In order to reduce Hg exposure, maximum levels in fish products have been established. We aimed to describe total mercury (THg) and methylmercury (MeHg) concentrations in fish species consumed in Comunitat Valenciana, as well as factors associated and their tendency during the period 2011-2017.

Background: There is scarce evidence supporting the clinical utility of congestive intrarenal venous flow (IRVF) patterns in patients with acute heart failure.
Objectives: This study aims to: 1) investigate the association between IRVF patterns and the odds of worsening renal function (WRF); 2) track the longitudinal changes of serum creatinine (sCr) across IRVF at predetermined points and its association with decongestion; and 3) explore the relationship between IRVF/WRF categories and patient outcomes.
Methods: IRVF was assessed at baseline (pre-decongestive therapy), 72 hours, and 30 and 90 days postdischarge.
Background And Aims: During the COVID-19 pandemic, mental health became a relevant factor in people's performance within organizations. The aim of this study was to analyze the effects of an organizational intervention program on the psychosocial factors of demands, resources, and the consequences of psychosocial risks in a technology services company during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Methods: A quasiexperimental study was carried out with 105 employees who took part in an 8-week intervention program divided into two large stages.

Objective: Bronchogenic carcinoma (BC) is the second most frequent worldwide and the most lethal tumour in both sexes. Its incidence varies not only among countries but also among different areas of the same country. So, the aim of this work was to analyse the evolution of its incidence and survival in the province of Castellón from 2004 to 2017 and to compare them with those of de rest of the country.

Background: The bone growth factor was a conditioning circumstance that limited the use of implants in children and adolescents, which, in cases of anodontia or severe oligodontia, forced pediatric dentists to abandon their use, leaving children with removable prostheses, at an age and in a social context with increasingly functional and esthetic demands. Purpose. The objective is to assess which variables influence the survival of dental implants in pediatric patients with severe agenesis.

Introduction: Although small-sample size studies have shown that basal alterations of estimated glomerular filtration rate (eGFR) are related to short- and mid-term higher mortality in acute heart failure (AHF), there is scarce information on the influence of an altered eGFR on long-term mortality and readmissions. Therefore, this multicenter study sought to investigate the relationship between eGFR on admission for AHF and both long-term mortality and readmissions in a large sample of patients.
Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 4,595 patients consecutively discharged after admission for AHF at three tertiary-care hospitals from January 1, 2008, to January 1, 2020.

Frailty is associated with increased mortality and hospitalizations in patients with heart failure (HF). However, there is little evidence regarding the burden of morbidity. In this study, we aimed to assess the association between frailty and recurrent all-cause HF hospitalizations in patients with stable chronic HF.

The pandemic context presents remarkable psychological challenges for adolescents and young adults. The aim of the present work was to construct and study the psychometric properties of a scale in Spanish language (W-COV) to measure their worries related to the pandemic. Participants were 5559 people aged between 14 and 25 years old (M = 19.

We report the first model of stratospheric mercury chemistry based on a novel photosensitized oxidation mechanism. We find two very distinct Hg chemical regimes in the stratosphere: in the upper stratosphere, above the ozone maximum concentration, Hg oxidation is initiated by photosensitized reactions, followed by second-step chlorine chemistry.

Background: In utero exposure to bisphenols, widely used in consumer products, may alter lung development and increase the risk of respiratory morbidity in the offspring. However, evidence is scarce and mostly focused on bisphenol A (BPA) only.
Objective: To examine the associations of in utero exposure to BPA, bisphenol F (BPF), and bisphenol S (BPS) with asthma, wheeze, and lung function in school-age children, and whether these associations differ by sex.
Background Following a heart failure (HF)-decompensation, there is scarce data about sex-related prognostic differences across left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) status. We sought to evaluate sex-related differences in 6-month mortality risk across LVEF following admission for acute HF. Methods and Results We retrospectively evaluated 4812 patients consecutively admitted for acute HF in a multicenter registry from 3 hospitals.
