Public mental health (PMH) interventions aim to promote and improve the well-being of members of a society. PMH is based on a normative understanding of what well-being is and what factors contribute to it. Without necessarily disclosing it, measures of a PMH program may affect the autonomy of individuals if their personal perceptions regarding their own individual well-being differ from PMH's prescriptions for well-being oriented toward societal goals.

Purpose: Besides the quality of life, patients' return to work is one of the most important treatment results of medical rehabilitation paid by the German Pension Insurance. In order to be able to use the return to work as a quality indicator for medical rehabilitation, a risk adjustment strategy for pre-existing characteristics of patients, rehabilitation departments and labour markets had to be developed.
Methods: Multiple regression analyses and cross validation were used to develop a risk adjustment strategy, which mathematically compensates the influence of confounders and thus allows for appropriate comparisons between rehabilitation departments regarding patients' return to work after medical rehabilitation.

In the context of further impact tests with various striking weapons against the skull, it turned out that the manufacturer had incorrectly calibrated the force measuring plate, which was used in our earlier experiments. When the tests were carried out again under the same conditions, the measurement results were significantly higher.

Bordered pit membranes of angiosperm xylem are anisotropic, mesoporous media between neighbouring conduits, with a key role in long distance water transport. Yet, their mechanical properties are poorly understood. Here, we aim to quantify the stiffness of intervessel pit membranes over various growing seasons.

We study asymptotic state transformations in continuous variable quantum resource theories. In particular, we prove that monotones displaying lower semicontinuity and strong superadditivity can be used to bound asymptotic transformation rates in these settings. This removes the need for asymptotic continuity, which cannot be defined in the traditional sense for infinite-dimensional systems.

Diversification of biocrystal arrangements, incorporation of biopolymers at many scale levels and hierarchical architectures are keys for biomaterial optimization. The planktonic rotaliid foraminifer Pulleniatina obliquiloculata displays in its shell a new kind of mesocrystal architecture. Shell formation starts with crystallization of a rhizopodial network, the primary organic sheet (POS).

Background: Inpatient psychiatric treatment of prisoners is organized differently in Germany, depending on the structural conditions of the federal state and prison. There are very few findings on the different possibilities of treatment and the view of the hospitals on this issue.
Objectives: Our aim was to gain an up-to-date picture of inpatient treatment of prisoners in general psychiatric departments and hospitals and the challenges these institutions face.

Background: According to the World Health Organisation, climate change poses the greatest health threat to humanity. At the same time, an environmentally friendly lifestyle has a positive impact on our health, such as a plant-based diet. In order to counter climate change, society needs to be informed about climate-friendly and health-promoting measures.

The electrochemical behaviour of rounded graphite particles as anode material in a lithium-ion battery strongly depends on the particle properties. The spheroidization process directly affects these properties, including the open porosity that determines the extent of direct contact between liquid electrolyte and carbon surface. Therefore, the quantification of the proportion between open and closed pores is of great interest.

A relationship between literature and medicine has existed since antiquity. A physician often appears in the literary genre of satire as the representative of medicine and is the object of the satire. The barely known humanistic author Johannes Gregor Macer Szepsius (ca.

Video-based psychotherapy is a digital way to deliver psychotherapeutic treatment when traditional on-site psychotherapy cannot be provided due to structural barriers, such as those related to the COVID-19 pandemic. The use of this digital approach has proven to be both effective and accepted among therapists and patients. Legal frameworks for German therapists and recommendations for practical implementation are summarized in this article.

The elucidation of the mechanisms underpinning chirality-induced spin selectivity remains an outstanding scientific challenge. Here we consider the role of delocalized phonon modes in electron transport in chiral structures and demonstrate that spin selectivity can originate from spin-dependent energy and momentum conservation in electron-phonon scattering events. While this mechanism is robust to the specific nature of the vibrational modes, the degree of spin polarization depends on environmental factors, such as the specific temperature and phonon relaxation rates, as well as the presence of external driving fields.

Background: Optimal insulin titration is essential in helping people with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) to achieve adequate glycemic control. Barriers of people with diabetes to implementation of titration include lack of self-efficiency and self-management skills, increased diabetes-related distress, low treatment satisfaction, poor well-being, as well as concerns about hypoglycemia and insulin overdose. My Dose Coach is a digital health tool for optimizing titration of basal insulin that combines a smartphone app for patients with T2DM and a Web portal for healthcare professionals.

Clinical research on the therapeutic efficacy of psychedelics is currently experiencing a renaissance. Available scientific evidence on their efficacy in various psychiatric conditions, as well as their legally approved use in some countries of the world, show the possibility of their future application in clinical practice also in Germany. The field is facing substantial challenges that have to be addressed, such as defining and setting a suitable clinical frame.

Traumatic brain injury can result in frontobasal fractures (FBF). The goals of treatment for FBF are to eliminate primary morbidity and/or prevent secondary morbidity. Of particular importance in this regard is the proximity of important sensory organs for hearing, vision, smell, and taste, as well as their supplying nervous structures.

Macrophages are key cells after tissue damage since they mediate both acute inflammatory phase and regenerative inflammation by shifting from pro-inflammatory to restorative cells. Glucocorticoids (GCs) are the most potent anti-inflammatory hormone in clinical use, still their actions on macrophages are not fully understood. We show that the metabolic sensor AMP-activated protein kinase (AMPK) is required for GCs to induce restorative macrophages.

Aberration-corrected transmission electron microscopy enables imaging of two-dimensional (2D) materials with atomic resolution. However, dissecting the short-range-ordered structures in radiation-sensitive and amorphous 2D materials remains a significant challenge due to low atomic contrast and laborious manual evaluation. Here, we imaged carbon-based 2D materials with strong contrast, which is enabled by chromatic and spherical aberration correction at a low acceleration voltage.

The Arabidopsis thaliana genome harbors more than 450 nuclear genes encoding pentatricopeptide repeat (PPR) proteins that operate in the RNA metabolism of mitochondria and/or plastids. To date, the molecular function of many PPR proteins is still unknown. Here we analyzed the nucleus-encoded gene At4g19440 coding for a P-type PPR protein.

Two-dimensional conjugated metal-organic frameworks (2D c-MOFs) have attracted increasing interests for (opto)-electronics and spintronics. They generally consist of van der Waals stacked layers and exhibit layer-depended electronic properties. While considerable efforts have been made to regulate the charge transport within a layer, precise control of electronic coupling between layers has not yet been achieved.

Surface corrosion, however, typically deteriorates the performance of photoelectrochemical solar cells based on this material class. It has been reported that (photo)electrochemical surface functionalisation protects the surface by combining etching and controlled corrosion.
