Knowledge of the atomic structure of layer-stacked two-dimensional conjugated metal-organic frameworks (2D c-MOFs) is an essential prerequisite for establishing their structure-property correlation. For this, atomic resolution imaging is often the method of choice. In this paper, we gain a better understanding of the main properties contributing to the electron beam resilience and the achievable resolution in the high-resolution TEM images of 2D c-MOFs, which include chemical composition, density, and conductivity of the c-MOF structures.

Vinylene-linked two-dimensional polymers (V-2DPs) and their layer-stacked covalent organic frameworks (V-2D COFs) featuring high in-plane π-conjugation and robust frameworks have emerged as promising candidates for energy-related applications. However, current synthetic approaches are restricted to producing V-2D COF powders that lack processability, impeding their integration into devices, particularly within membrane technologies reliant upon thin films. Herein, we report the novel on-water surface synthesis of vinylene-linked cationic 2DPs films (V-C2DP-1 and V-C2DP-2) via Knoevenagel polycondensation, which serve as the anion-selective electrode coating for highly-reversible and durable zinc-based dual-ion batteries (ZDIBs).

The assessment and characterization of trend accuracy, that is, the ability of a continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) system to correctly indicate the direction and rate of change (RoC) of glucose levels, has received comparatively little attention in the overall evaluation of CGM performance. As such, only few approaches that examine the trend accuracy have been put forward. In this article, we review existing approaches and propose the clinical trend concurrence analysis (CTCA) which is an adaptation of the conventional trend concurrence analysis.

Background: Research on people deprived of liberty raises serious questions, especially concerning behavioral genetic studies.
Question: Does including criminally detained patients with mental disorders in genetic studies lead to a gain of new knowledge and can this be ethically and legally justified?
Method: Evaluation of existing literature and interdisciplinary reflection.
Results: After a review of research ethics and legal norms, we consider the benefits and risks of behavioral genetic research, taking the unique situation of test persons deprived of their liberty into account.

Background: Reliable blood glucose (BG) measurements are important for people with diabetes to manage their therapy as well as in point-of-care testing (POCT) performed by health care professionals to monitor BG of patients or even to diagnose diabetes. Among other factors, endogenous and exogenous substances present in blood samples can impact the measurement results. To ensure and prove that blood glucose monitoring systems (BGMSs) are robust in terms of potential interferents, manufacturers have to perform extensive evaluations.

Objective: To date the relationships between rape myths and other psychological constructs within males who have committed rape have not been explored sufficiently. Considered as a risk factor for the perpetration of rape it seems significant to examine their association to individual behavioral and personality characteristics more in detail.
Methods: Therefore, we analyzed the relations between self-reported rape myth acceptance and the self-evaluation of aggressiveness, assertiveness, hypersexuality, social anxiety, sexual anxiety, SCID personality characteristics and the external assessment of psychopathy within a sample of N=569 males convicted of rape.

In electrochemistry, reactions and charge-transfer are to a large extent determined by the atomistic structure of the solid-liquid interface. Yet due to the presence of the liquid electrolyte, many surface-science methods cannot be applied here. Hence, the exact microscopic structure that is present under operating conditions often remains unknown.

Purpose: Individual prediction of treatment response is crucial for personalized treatment in multimodal approaches against head-and-neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). So far, no reliable predictive parameters for treatment schemes containing immunotherapy have been identified. This study aims to predict treatment response to induction chemo-immunotherapy based on the peripheral blood immune status in patients with locally advanced HNSCC.

Two-dimensional conjugated metal-organic frameworks (2D c-MOFs) have attracted increasing interest in electronics due to their (semi)conducting properties. Charge-neutral 2D c-MOFs also possess persistent organic radicals that can be viewed as spin-concentrated arrays, affording new opportunities for spintronics. However, the strong π-interaction between neighboring layers of layer-stacked 2D c-MOFs annihilates active spin centers and significantly accelerates spin relaxation, severely limiting their potential as spin qubits.

Gated adsorption is one of the unique physical properties of flexible metal-organic frameworks with high application potential in selective adsorption and sensing of molecules. Despite recent studies that have provided some guidelines in understanding and designing structural flexibility for controlling gate opening by chemical modification of the secondary building units, currently, there is no established strategy to design a flexible MOF showing selective gated adsorption for a specific guest molecule. In a present contribution it is demonstrated for the first time, that the selectivity in the gate opening of a particular compound can be tuned, changed, and even reversed using particle size engineering DUT-8(Zn) ([Zn(2,6-ndc)(dabco)], 2,6-ndc = 2,6-naphthalenedicarboxylate, dabco = 1,4-diazabicyclo-[2.

The development of competitive rechargeable Mg batteries is hindered by the poor mobility of divalent Mg ions in cathode host materials. In this work, we explore the dual cation co-intercalation strategy to mitigate the sluggishness of Mg in model TiS material. The strategy involves pairing Mg with Li or Na in dual-salt electrolytes in order to exploit the faster mobility of the latter with the aim to reach better electrochemical performance.

Background: In Germany, different models of orthogeriatric co-management have been implemented in certified geriatric trauma centers. So far, it is not clear how the different models are implemented and what influence the certification has on the structures and processes within the centers. The present study examined the extent of cooperation between surgery and geriatrics and if the quality of care had changed since the certification of the centers.

The magnetic exchange coupling between magnetic impurities and a superconductor induce so-called Yu-Shiba-Rusinov (YSR) states which undergo a quantum phase transition (QPT) upon increasing the exchange interaction beyond a critical value. While the evolution through the QPT is readily observable, in particular if the YSR state features an electron-hole asymmetry, the concomitant change in the ground state is more difficult to identify. We use ultralow temperature scanning tunneling microscopy to demonstrate how the change in the YSR ground state across the QPT can be directly observed for a spin-1/2 impurity in a magnetic field.

Comparing the performance of different continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) systems is challenging due to the lack of comprehensive guidelines for clinical study design. In particular, the absence of concise requirements for the distribution of comparator (reference) blood glucose (BG) concentrations and their rate of change (RoC) that are used to evaluate CGM performance, impairs comparability. For this article, several experts in the field of CGM performance testing have collaborated to propose characteristics of the distribution of comparator measurements that should be collected during CGM performance testing.

Heating of the arm and/or hand ("arterialization") is sometimes used in continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) performance studies with the reported aim of reducing differences between venous and capillary glucose concentrations. In this study, the effect of heating on venous glucose concentrations and CGM accuracy was investigated. A heating pad set to 50°C (122°F) was used with 20 participants to heat either the dominant or nondominant arm and hand.
