The surgically induced remission of liver disease represents a model to investigate the signalling processes that trigger the development of nonalcoholic steatohepatitis with the aim of identifying novel therapeutic targets. We recruited patients with severe obesity with or without nonalcoholic steatohepatitis and obtained liver and plasma samples before and after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy for immunoblotting, immunocytochemical, metabolomic, transcriptomic and epigenetic analyses. Functional studies were performed in HepG2 cells and primary hepatocytes.

The Role of Psychological Maturity and the Big Five Personality Traits in the Victimization Through Indirect Aggression.

Background: Peer victimization is a problem that affects adolescents worldwide. Since so few studies have been made on the relationship between maturity and indirect peer victimization, the main objective of this study was to determine if maturity provides incremental validity beyond the personality traits when predicting indirect victimization. Aim: In the current cross-sectional study, we aimed to explore whether thyroid function or thyroid autoimmunity are associated with psychopathological symptoms and social functioning in patients with early psychosis. Alkene Epoxidation Catalyzed by Ti-Containing Polyoxometalates: Unprecedented β-Oxygen Transfer Mechanism.

A DFT study revealed that the mechanism of alkene epoxidation with hydrogen peroxide catalyzed by Ti-containing polyoxometalates (POMs) depends on the Ti coordination environment: For rigid and hindered Ti centers, the unprecedented β-oxygen transfer from the titanium hydroperoxo species becomes favored over the α-oxygen one. Improving the model for catalyst description, the calculations were able to reproduce the Arrhenius activation energy values determined in kinetic studies. Unlike protonation, the possible ion-pairing between POMs and countercations has a minor effect on the electrophlicity of the catalyst and, consequently, on the activity of epoxidation.

Mechanism of thioether oxidation over di- and tetrameric ti centres: kinetic and DFT studies based on model Ti-containing polyoxometalates.

The oxidation of thioethers by the green oxidant aqueous H2 O2 catalysed by the tetratitanium-substituted Polyoxometalate (POM) (Bu4 N)8 [{γ-SiTi2 W10 O36 (OH)2 }2 (μ-O)2 ], as a model catalyst comprising tetrameric titanium centres, was investigated by kinetic modelling and DFT calculations. Several mechanisms of sulfoxidation were evaluated by using methyl phenyl sulfide (PhSMe) as a model substrate in the experiments and dimethyl sulfide in the calculations. The first mechanism assumes that the active hydroperoxo species forms directly through interaction of the Ti2 (μ-OH)2 group in [{γ-SiTi2 W10 O36 (OH)2 }2 (μ-O)2 ](8-) (1 D) with H2 O2 .

Self-care strategies for emotional distress among young adults in Catalonia: a qualitative study.

Background: Emotional distress is common in adolescence, and self-care strategies are frequently preferred to address it. The aim of this article is to analyze the self-care strategies among adolescents and young people diagnosed with depression or with self-perceived depressive distress in Catalonia using a qualitative design.

Methods: We analyzed the self-care strategies of 105 young people (17-21 years of age) in Catalonia who had participated in a national survey on adolescents.

Mechanistic insights into alkene epoxidation with H2O2 by Ti- and other TM-containing polyoxometalates: role of the metal nature and coordination environment.

The oxidation of alkenes by H(2)O(2) catalyzed by Ti(IV)-containing polyoxometalates (POMs) as models of Ti single-site catalysts has been investigated at DFT level and has been compared with other early transition-metal-substituted polyoxometalates. We have studied in detail the reaction mechanism of the C(2)H(4) epoxidation with H(2)O(2) mediated by two different POMs, the Ti-monosubstituted Keggin-type POM [PTi(OH)W(11)O(39)](4-) and the Ti-disubstituted sandwich-type POM [Ti(2)(OH)(2)As(2)W(19)O(67)(H(2)O)](8-). These species exhibit well-defined 6- and 5-coordinated titanium environments.
