To fulfill consumer trends in sustainable and healthy food choices, this study explored the application of edible insects and carob powder as sustainable and nutritious ingredients in developing a high-protein snack, known as a protein ball. Four formulations were developed and characterized in terms of moisture content, water activity, color, texture, microbial count, and nutritional profile. Finally, the sensory profile was determined using the flash profile method, and the developed product was compared to a commercial product.

Enhancement of the Elastocaloric Performance of Natural Rubber by Forced Air Convection.

We study the enhancement of the elastocaloric effect in natural rubber by using forced air convection to favour heat extraction during the elongation stage of a stretching-unstretching cycle. Elastocaloric performance is quantified by means of the adiabatic undercooling that occurs after fast removal of the stress, measured by infrared thermography. To ensure accuracy, spatial averaging on thermal maps of the sample surface is performed since undercooled samples display heterogeneities caused by various factors.

A comparative study of the structural integrity of an opaque recycled poly(ethylene terephthalate) (rPET-O) has been carried out with two types of modified rPET-O by applying reactive extrusion techniques, namely (a) using a multi-epoxide reactive agent (REx-rPET-O) and (b) a 90/10 (wt/wt) rPET-O/polycarbonate (PC) blend. The chemical modifications introduced during reactive extrusion were confirmed using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and rheological dynamic analysis (RDA). For the quantification of the fracture parameters, an instrumented pendulum impact testing machine was used using specimens in SENB configuration.

The potential of comprehending and managing microscale flows to enhance energy processes, especially in heat transfer and propulsion applications, remains largely untapped particularly for supercritical fluids, which have gained increased interest over the past years due to the higher power and thermodynamic efficiencies they provide. This work, therefore, presents the first comprehensive, open-source dataset carefully curated and structured for studying microconfined high-pressure transcritical fluid channel flows under various regimes. Dynamo action driven by precessional turbulence.

We reveal and analyze an efficient magnetic dynamo action due to precession-driven hydrodynamic turbulence in the local model of a precessional flow, focusing on the kinematic stage of this dynamo. The growth rate of the magnetic field monotonically increases with the Poincaré number Po, characterizing precession strength, and the magnetic Prandtl number Pm, equal to the ratio of viscosity to resistivity, for the considered ranges of these parameters. The critical Po_{c} for the dynamo onset decreases with increasing Pm.

Spontaneous gas-bubble nucleation in weak gas-liquid solutions has been a challenging topic in theory, experimentation, and computer simulations. In analogy with recent advances in crystallization and droplet formation studies, the diffusive-shielding stabilization and thermodynamic irreversibility of bulk nanobubble (bNB) mechanisms are revisited and deployed to characterize nucleation processes in a stochastic framework of computer experiments using the large-scale atomic/molecular massively parallel simulator code. Theoretical bases, assumptions, and limitations underlying the irreversibility hypothesis of bNBs, and their computational counterparts, are extensively described and illustrated.
