Purpose: To compare the changes in body weight and glycemic control before and during the COVID-19 pandemic in people with type 1 diabetes (T1D).
Methods: In 47,065 individuals with T1D from the German Diabetes Prospective Follow-up Registry (DPV), we compared the adjusted mean changes in BMI-Z-scores and HbA1c as well as the distribution of individual changes between four periods from March 2018 to February 2022, by sex and age group (4- < 11, 11- < 16, 16-50 years).
Results: At population level, the only significant pandemic effects were a slight increase in BMI Z-score in prepubertal children (girls: + 0.

In recent years, reports of health problems associated with nitrous oxide consumption have significantly increased. In Germany, nitrous oxide (NO) is easily available in cartridges without legal restrictions. The main reason for its popularity in the party scene are the euphoric, psychedelic effects of the gas.

Peripheral arterial occlusive disease (PAOD) is a frequent manifestation of atherosclerosis with a high risk of cardiovascular events (myocardial infarction, stroke, amputation, cardiovascular death). A distinction is made between the stable form of intermittent claudication and chronic limb-threatening ischemia (CLTI, pain at rest, wounds). The most frequent risk factors are diabetes mellitus and smoking.

Altermagnetism has emerged as a third type of collinear magnetism. In contrast to standard ferromagnets and antiferromagnets, altermagnets exhibit extra even-parity wave spin order parameters resulting in a spin splitting of electronic bands in momentum space. In real space, sublattices of opposite spin polarization are anisotropic and related by rotational symmetry.

We investigate the effects of two-body currents on magnetic dipole moments of medium-mass and heavy nuclei using the valence-space in-medium similarity renormalization group with chiral effective field theory interactions and currents. Focusing on near doubly magic nuclei from oxygen to bismuth, we have found that the leading two-body currents globally improve the agreement with experimental magnetic moments. Moreover, our results show the importance of multishell effects for ^{41}Ca, which suggest that the Z=N=20 gap in ^{40}Ca is not as robust as in ^{48}Ca.

A combination of searches for a new resonance decaying into a Higgs boson pair is presented, using up to 139 fb^{-1} of pp collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV recorded with the ATLAS detector at the LHC. The combination includes searches performed in three decay channels: bb[over ¯]bb[over ¯], bb[over ¯]τ^{+}τ^{-}, and bb[over ¯]γγ. No excess above the expected Standard Model background is observed and upper limits are set at the 95% confidence level on the production cross section of Higgs boson pairs originating from the decay of a narrow scalar resonance with mass in the range 251 GeV-5 TeV.

Affect induction procedures are effectively implemented in psychological research. However, because participants are typically asked to self-report their affect immediately after viewing emotional stimuli, the goal of eliciting affect is relatively easy for participants to infer, making their responses susceptible to demand effects. To examine this demand effect, research has used an unrelated-studies paradigm, in which participants are led to believe that they are participating in two different, unrelated studies.

Imaging energy filters in photoelectron microscopes and momentum microscopes use spherical fields with deflection angles of 90°, 180° and even 2 × 180°. These instruments are optimized for high energy resolution, and exhibit image aberrations when operated in high transmission mode at medium energy resolution. Here, a new approach is presented for bandpass-filtered imaging in real or reciprocal space using an electrostatic dodecapole with an asymmetric electrode array.

Terbium-157 was radiochemically extracted from an irradiated tantalum target. Since the resulting material contained a significant impurity of Tb, Tb was isotopically purified using laser resonance ionization at the RISIKO mass separator in Mainz and then implanted on an aluminum (Al) foil. The implanted Tb was measured by two different calibrated gamma-ray spectrometers to determine photon emission rates.

Nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) chemical shifts and the magnetically induced current density (MICD) susceptibility of four osmium containing molecules have been calculated at the density functional theory (DFT) level using three relativistic levels of theory. The calculations were performed at the quasi-relativistic level using an effective core potential (ECP) for Os, at the all-electron scalar exact two-component (X2C) relativistic level, and at the relativistic X2C level including spin-orbit coupling (SO-X2C). In earlier studies, the osmapentalene (1) and the osmapentalynes (2 and 3) were considered Craig-type Möbius aromatic and it was suggested that the analogous osmium compound (4) is Craig-type Möbius antiaromatic.

We propose a mechanism for engineering chiral interactions in Rydberg atoms via a directional antiblockade condition, where an atom can change its state only if an atom to its right (or left) is excited. The scalability of our scheme enables us to explore the many-body dynamics of kinetically constrained models with unidirectional character. We observe nonergodic behavior via either scars, confinement, or localization, upon simply tuning the strength of two driving fields acting on the atoms.

Higgsinos with masses near the electroweak scale can solve the hierarchy problem and provide a dark matter candidate, while detecting them at the LHC remains challenging if their mass splitting is O(1 GeV). This Letter presents a novel search for nearly mass-degenerate Higgsinos in events with an energetic jet, missing transverse momentum, and a low-momentum track with a significant transverse impact parameter using 140 fb^{-1} of proton-proton collision data at sqrt[s]=13 TeV collected by the ATLAS experiment. For the first time since LEP, a range of mass splittings between the lightest charged and neutral Higgsinos from 0.

Background: Even now the further training in surgery faces considerable challenges. The planned hospital structural reform will result in new bureaucratic and organizational hurdles, which could lead to a considerable loss of quality in advanced surgical training across all disciplines.
Objective: The aim of this position paper is to describe the current and future challenges for advanced surgical training and to identify possible approaches and opportunities for the further development against the background of the planned hospital structural reform.

Phases with spontaneous time-reversal ( ) symmetry breaking are sought after for their anomalous physical properties, low-dissipation electronic and spin responses, and information-technology applications. Recently predicted altermagnetic phase features an unconventional and attractive combination of a strong -symmetry breaking in the electronic structure and a zero or only weak-relativistic magnetization. In this work, we experimentally observe the anomalous Hall effect, a prominent representative of the -symmetry breaking responses, in the absence of an external magnetic field in epitaxial thin-film MnSi with a vanishingly small net magnetic moment.

We report the syntheses of tin(II) salts of the types [LSnX]SnX [L=2,6-{(i-PrO)(O)P}CHN: 1, X=Cl; 2, X=Br], [LSnCl]SnCl [L=2-{(i-PrO)Ph(O)P}-6-{(i-PrO)(O)P}CHN: 3], [LSnX]SnX [L=2,6-{MeO(O)C}CHN: 4, X=Cl; 5, X=Br], [LSnX]SnX [L=2,6-{EtN(O)C}CHN: 6, X=Cl; 7, X=Br]. These compounds were obtained by addition of SnX to the corresponding ligand inducing autoionization of the respective tin(II) halide. The thermal stability of 1, 3, and 4 was elucidated, giving, under ester cleavage and cyclisation, the tin(II) derivatives 8-12.

Understanding the dynamics of drops on polymer-coated surfaces is crucial for optimizing applications such as self-cleaning materials or microfluidic devices. While the static and dynamic properties of deposited drops have been well characterized, a microscopic understanding of the underlying dynamics is missing. In particular, it is unclear how drop dynamics depends on the amount of uncross-linked chains in the brush, because experimental techniques fail to quantify those.

We present the synthesis of two new novel tetradentate ligands based on 1,3,4-oxadiazole, 2-(2-pyridyl)-5-[,-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)aminomethyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazole (LTetraPy-ODA) and 2-(2-phenyl)-5-[,-bis(2-pyridylmethyl)aminomethyl]-1,3,4-oxadiazole (LTetraPh-ODA). The ligands were used to prepare six mononuclear complexes [Fe(LTetraPy-ODA)(NCE)] (C1-C3) and [Fe(LTetraPh-ODA)(NCE)] (C4-C6) where E = S, Se or BH. In addition, the ligand LTetraPy-ODA was employed in the synthesis of a new di-nuclear complex [FeII2(LTetraPh)](ClO)·1 CHNO·1.
