We investigate the aging properties of phase-separation kinetics following quenches from T=∞ to a finite temperature below T_{c} of the paradigmatic two-dimensional conserved Ising model with power-law decaying long-range interactions ∼r^{-(2+σ)}. Physical aging with a power-law decay of the two-time autocorrelation function C(t,t_{w})∼(t/t_{w})^{-λ/z} is observed, displaying a complex dependence of the autocorrelation exponent λ on σ. A value of λ=3.

Mathematical Epidemiology (ME) shares with Chemical Reaction Network Theory (CRNT) the basic mathematical structure of its dynamical systems. Despite this central similarity, methods from CRNT have been seldom applied to solving problems in ME. We explore here the applicability of CRNT methods to find bifurcations at endemic equilibria of ME models.

Modern humans arrived in Europe more than 45,000 years ago, overlapping at least 5,000 years with Neanderthals. Limited genomic data from these early modern humans have shown that at least two genetically distinct groups inhabited Europe, represented by Zlatý kůň, Czechia and Bacho Kiro, Bulgaria. Here we deepen our understanding of early modern humans by analyzing one high-coverage genome and five low-coverage genomes from ~45,000 year-old remains from Ilsenhöhle in Ranis, Germany, and a further high-coverage genome from Zlatý kůň.

Wilhelm-Wundt-Institut für Psychologie, Universität Leipzig, Neumarkt 9-19, 04109 Leipzig, Germany.

In visual search, the repetition of target and distractor colors enables both successful search and effective distractor handling. Nevertheless, the specific consequences of trial-to-trial feature repetition in different search contexts are poorly understood. Here, we investigated how feature repetition shapes the electrophysiological and behavioral correlates of target processing and distractor handling, testing theoretically informed predictions with single-trial mixed-effects modeling.

Article Synopsis
  • There is a need for effective methods to integrate deuterium into carbon compounds, especially in later stages of synthesis.
  • A new synthetic approach for hydrogen isotope exchange (HIE) has been developed using hexafluorophosphate (PF) and deuterated hexafluoroisopropanol (HFIP-d) under mild, ambient conditions.
  • This method achieves high yields in deuterating a variety of aromatic compounds and relies on the activation of the P-F bond by HFIP-d through H-bonding, facilitating the formation of deuterated molecules that could be useful in various chemical applications, including pharmaceuticals.

Article Synopsis
  • The warming of waters is severely affecting zooxanthellate corals globally, causing high mortality rates and raising concerns, especially for Cladocora caespitosa, the only reef-building coral in the Mediterranean Sea.
  • Monitoring efforts have been limited, making it difficult to understand past marine heatwaves (MHWs) and their long-term impacts on coral health.
  • Through sclerochronology, researchers examined coral growth patterns and found a correlation between temperature and calcification, but a decline in growth and calcification rates in warmer waters suggests increasing physiological stress due to MHWs.

Due to its high sensitivity and high negative predictive value, computed tomography angiography of the coronary arteries (CCTA) has proven to be particularly useful for ruling out obstructive coronary artery disease (CAD) in cases of suspected chronic coronary syndrome (CCS), which is why CCTA will also be included in the care of patients with statutory health insurance in Germany according to the G-BA decision of January 24, 2024. The value of CCTA is clearly confirmed in the current guidelines of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC) and the national care guideline from August 2024. However, good results from CCTA can only be achieved-in addition to appropriate qualifications of those performing the test and the necessary technical requirements-if the right patients are included, namely those with a low intermediate pretest probability for the presence of obstructive CAD.
